WARNING
KICKBACK DANGER (Fig. 1)
One of th e most severe dangers wh en work ing wit h a chain s aw is
the pos sibil ity of k ickba ck. Kickbac k may occur when the upper tip
of the guide bar to uches a n object, or when the woo d closes in and
pinch es the saw chain in the cut . Tip con tact in s ome cases may
cause a lightning fast reverse reacti on, kicking t he guid e bar up an d
back towa rd you. Pinchin g the saw chain al ong the top of the guide
bar may al so push t he guid e bar rap idly ba ck towards you. Eit her of
these r eactions may c ause you to los e control of th e chain saw whi ch
could result in serious pers onal in jury. Even thoug h your cha in saw
has safe ty bui lt into it s design, you should not r ely on th ese saf ety
features exclus ively. Kn ow where your guide bar tip is at all ti mes.
Kickback doe s occur if you all ow the ki ckbac k zone (1) of the gui de
bar to touch an obje ct. Do not use that a rea. Ki ckback from pin ching
is caused by a cut closing and pinching t he uppe r side of t he guid e
bar. Study your cut an d make sur e it will o pen as you c ut thro ugh.
Maint ain control wh en the engine i s running by alw ays keeping a fi rm
grip on t he chai n saw with your rig ht hand o n the rea r handl e, your
left hand on the front ha ndle an d your thumbs and fi ngers encircling
the han dles. Always hol d the chain saw wi th both hands during
operation and cut at high engine spee d.
Follow manufac turer 's shar pening and maintena nce ins truc tions
for the sa w chain. The lack of this mainten ance may increase the
possibility of kickback.

○ Avoid cut ting in a dvers e weather cond ition s, such as dense fog,
heavy r ain, bitter co ld, hig h winds, etc.
Adverse weath er is often tiri ng to work in and creates pot entia lly
dange rous co nditi ons suc h as slip pery ground.
High winds may force the tree to fall i n an unexp ected d irect ion
causing property damage or personal injury.
CAUTION
Never u se a chain saw to pr y or for any pur pose for which i t is not
intended.
WARNING
○ Avoid stumbling on obstacles such as stumps, roots, rocks,
branc hes and f allen t rees. Watch out for h oles an d ditch es. Be
extremely cautious when working on slopes or uneven ground.
Shut off the engine when moving from one work place to another.
Always c ut at wide open thrott le. A slow moving c hain can easily
catch an d force the chai n saw to jer k.
○ Never use th e chain s aw with only one h and.
You cannot con trol th e chain s aw properly and you may lose

NOTE
Always keep the spiked bumper fac e to a tree, because the
chain may suddenly be drawn into a tree, if so equipped.
FELLING
Felling is more th an cutt ing down a tree. You must also brin g it down
as near to an intended place as possible without damaging the tree
or anyt hing el se.
Before fe lling a t ree, carefull y consider all conditions which may
eff ect the intended d irect ion, such as:
Angle of the tree. Shape o f the crow n. Snow load on the c rown.
Wind conditions. Obstacles within tree range (e.g., oth er tree s,
power lines, roads, buildings, etc.).
WARNING
○ Always o bser ve the general c ondit ions of t he tree. L ook for
decay an d rot in the trunk which will make it mo re likel y to snap
and sta rt to fall before you expect it.
○ Look for d ry bra nches, which may break and hit yo u when you
are working.
Always keep animals and people at least t wice t he tree length
away whil e felling. Cle ar away shrubs a nd branches f rom around
the tree.
Prepare a path of retreat away from th e felling direction.
BASIC RU LES FOR F ELLIN G TREES
Norma lly the felli ng consist s of two main cu tting ope rations, n otching

MAINTENANCE
Carburetor adjustment (Fi g. 33)
In the ca rburetor, fuel i s mixed with air. Whe n the engine is te st run at
the factory, the c arbur etor is ad juste d. A further adjustment may be
required, acc ordin g to climate and al titud e. The carburet or has on e
adjustment possibility:
T = Idle speed adjustment screw.
Idle sp eed ad justm ent (T )
Check t hat the air fi lter is clean. When the idle speed is correct, the
cutting att achment will n ot rotate. If adju stmen t is requ ired, close
(clock wise) the T-screw, wit h the eng ine run ning, u ntil the cutt ing
attachment starts to rotate. Open (counter-clockwise) the screw
until the cutting at tachment sto ps. You have rea ched th e correct idle

If you r otate them, it w ill cause a ser ious damage to t he machine.
Air fi lter (Fig. 34)
The air fi lter (40) must be cleaned from dust and dirt in order to avoid:
○ Carburetor malfunctions.
○ Starting problems.
○ Engine power reduction.
○ Un necessar y wear on th e engine part s.
○ Abnormal fuel consumption.
Clean the air fi lter daily or more of ten if wo rkin g in except ional ly
dusty areas.
Remove the air fi lter cover (41) and the fi lter (40).
Rinse them in war m soap su ds. Che ck that t he fi lter is dry before
reassembly. An air fi lter that has been used for some time cannot be
clean ed comp letely. Therefor e, it must regularly be replaced with a
new one. A damaged fi lter must always be re place d.

Spark p lug (Fig . 35)
The spark plug c ondit ion is in fl uenced by:
○ An incorrect carburetor setting.
○ Wro ng fuel m ixtu re (too mu ch oil in t he gaso line)
○ A di rty a ir fi lter.
○ Ha rd runn ing con ditio ns (such as cold weather).
These factors cause deposits on the s park pl ug elec trode s, whic h
may resu lt in mal funct ion and star ting di ffi culties. If the engine is
low on power, diffi cult to start or runs poorly at idling speed, always
check t he spark plug fi rst. I f the spark plu g is dirty, clea n it and check
the ele ctrode gap. Rea djust if nece ssary. The cor rect gap is 0.6 mm.
The spark plug s hould b e replaced after abou t 100 oper ation hours
or earlier if th e elect rodes are badly eroded.

In some areas, loc al law req uires u sing a re sistor spark plug
to suppress ignition signals. If this machine was originally
equipped with resistor spark plug, use same type of spark plug
for replacement.

For long -term storage
Drain a ll fuel from the fuel tan k. Start and let engine run until it sto ps.
Repair any dama ge whic h has resulted f rom use. Clean the unit with
a clean r ag, or the u se of hig h press ure air h ose. Put a f ew drops o f
