Appendix A: FAQ

How is HikCentral different from a third-party VMS, such as Milestone, Exacq, or
Salient?

HikCentral is designed to centrally manage Hikvision embedded recorders such as NVRs,
DVRs, CVRs. For customers who want to record Hikvision IP cameras on a Windows-based
server (ex: Dell, HP), we recommend involving a third-party VMS partner that is focused on
Windows-based recording.

When is a third-party VMS or HikCentral preferable?

HikCentral is for end-users who require more robust video management software than
offered in iVMS-4200. It is not designed to replace a third-party VMS partner already in use.
If third-party VMS is in use, the customer is encouraged to continue using the third-party
VMS and simply add Hikvision cameras. Alternatively, if an RFP specifies a third-party VMS
that actively partners with Hikvision, we would encourage the customer to use the selected
VMS with Hikvision cameras.

What type of projects/vertical markets is HikCentral suited for?
Projects requiring central management of Hikvision recorders:
