Safety Instructions
Proper configuration of all passwords and other security settings is the responsibility of the installer
and/or end-user.
In the use of the product, you must be in strict compliance with the electrical safety regulations of the
nation and region. Please refer to technical specifications for detailed information.
Input voltage should meet both the SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage) and the Limited Power Source with
100~240 VAC, 12 VDC or 48 VDC according to the IEC60950-1 standard. Please refer to technical
specifications for detailed information.
Do not connect several devices to one power adapter as adapter overload may cause over-heating or a
fire hazard.
Please make sure that the plug is firmly connected to the power socket.
If smoke, odor or noise rise from the device, turn off the power at once and unplug the power cable,

Preventive and Cautionary Tips
Before connecting and operating your device, please be advised of the following tips:
Ensure unit is installed in a well-ventilated, dust-free environment.
Unit is designed for indoor use only.
Keep all liquids away from the device.
Ensure environmental conditions meet factory specifications.
Ensure unit is properly secured to a rack or shelf. Major shocks or jolts to the unit as a result of
dropping it may cause damage to the sensitive electronics within the unit.
Use the device in conjunction with an UPS if possible.
Power down the unit before connecting and disconnecting accessories and peripherals.
A factory recommended HDD should be used for this device.
Improper use or replacement of the battery may result in hazard of explosion. Replace with the same or
equivalent type only. Dispose of used batteries according to the instructions provided by the battery

Chapter 1 Rear Panel Interfaces Description
The rear panel interfaces vary with different models. Refer to Table 1-1 for the common interfaces description
of rear panels.

Chapter 2 Installation and Connections
DVR Installation
During installation of the DVR:
Use brackets for rack mounting.
Ensure ample room for audio and video cables.
When routing cables, ensure that the bend radius of the cables are no less than five times than its
diameter.
Connect the alarm cable.
Allow at least 2 cm (≈0.75-inch) of space between racks mounted devices.
Ensure the DVR is grounded.
Environmental temperature should be within the range of -10 to +55º C, +14 to +131º F.
Environmental humidity should be within the range of 10% to 90%.

HDD Installation
Before you start
Before installing a hard disk drive (HDD), please make sure the power is disconnected from the device. A factory
recommended HDD should be used for the installation.
Tools Required: Cross screwdriver.
Bracket Installation
Bracket installation is applicable when you need to remove the cover of the device and install the HDD to the
internal bracket.
Remove the cover from
device by unfastening the
screws on the back and
pushing the cover
backwards.
Fix the HDD on the bracket
with screws.
To install the HDD on the bracket
of lower layer, uninstall the
bracket of upper layer first.
Connect the data cable
and power cable.
1) Connect one end of data cable
to the device motherboard.
2) Connect the other end of data
cable to HDD.
3) Connect power cable to HDD.
(Optional) Repeat the steps above to install other HDDs.
Reinstall the device cover and fasten screws.
Front Panel Plug-Pull Installation
Front panel plug-pull installation is applicable when you need to open the device front panel with key and
install the HDD.
Fix mounting ears to HDD
with screws.
Unlock the front panel with
the attached key, and press
the buttons on both sides of
the front panel to open it.
Insert the HDD until it is
fixed firmly.

(Optional) Repeat the steps above to install other HDDs.
Close the front panel and lock it with key.
Fix-on-Bottom Installation
Fix-on-bottom installation is applicable when you need to install and fix the HDD on the device bottom.
Remove the cover from device
by unfastening the screws on
panels.
Connect the data cable and
power cable.
1) Connect one end of data cable to
the device motherboard.
2) Connect the other end of data
cable to HDD.
3) Connect one end of power cable
to HDD.
4) Connect the other end of power
cable to the device motherboard.
Set the device up,
match HDD screw
threads with the
reserved holes on the
device bottom, and
fix HDD with screws.
(Optional) Repeat the steps above to install other HDDs.
Reinstall the device cover and fasten screws.
RS-485 and Controller Connection
To connect PTZ to the DVR:
Disconnect pluggable block from
the RS-485 terminal block.
Press and hold the orange part of
the pluggable block, insert signal
cables into slots, and release the
orange part. Ensure signal cables
are in tight.
Connect A+ on PTZ to D+ on
terminal block and B- on controller
to D- on terminal block. Fasten
stop screws.
Connect pluggable block back into
terminal block.

Make sure both the controller and DVR are grounded.

Chapter 3 Menu Operation
Startup
Proper startup is crucial to expanding the life of the DVR.
Check the power supply is plugged into an electrical outlet.
It is HIGHLY recommended that an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) be used in conjunction with
the device. The Power button on the front panel should be red, indicating the device is receiving the
power.
Press the POWER button on the front panel.
The Power LED should turn blue. The unit will begin to start.
Activating Your Device
Purpose
For the first-time access, you need to activate the device by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed
before activation. You can also activate the device via Web Browser, SADP or client software.
Enter the same password in the text fields of
Create New Password and Confirm New
Password.
In the IP Camera Activation text field, enter
the password to activate the IP camera (s)
connected to the device.
Click OK to save the password and activate
the device.
STRONG PASSWORD RECOMMENDED–We highly
recommend you create a strong password of your own
choosing (Using a minimum of 8 characters, including
at least three of the following categories: upper case
letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special
characters.) in order to increase the security of your
product. And we recommend you reset your password
regularly, especially in the high security system,
resetting the password monthly or weekly can better
protect your product.

Clear-text password is supported. Click and
you can see the clear text of the password.
Click the icon again and the content of the
password restores invisible (the same below).

Using the Unlock Pattern for Login
Purpose
For the Admin user, you can configure the unlock pattern for device login.
After the device is activated, you can configure the device unlock pattern.
Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9
dots on the screen. Release the mouse when
the pattern is done.
Connect at least 4 dots to draw the pattern.
Each dot can be connected for once only.
Draw the same pattern again to confirm it.
When the two patterns match, the pattern is
configured successfully.
You can use the configured unlock pattern for
future login.

User Login
Purpose
If DVR has logged out, you must log in to the device before operating the menu and other functions.
Select the User Name in the drop-down list.
Enter the Password.
Click OK to log in.
For the admin, if you have entered the wrong password
for 7 times, the account will be locked for 60 seconds. For
the operator, if you have entered the wrong password for
5 times, the account will be locked for 60 seconds.

User Logout, Shutdown and Reboot
Purpose
You can log out of the system, shut down, or reboot the device on your demands.
Go to Menu > Shutdown.
Click Logout, Shutdown, or Reboot.
After you have logged out of the system, menu
operation on the screen is invalid. It is required to
enter a user name and password to unlock the
system.

Configuring Signal Input
Purpose
For some models, you can configure the analog and IP signal input types and 5 MP long distance transmission.
For other models, the analog signal inputs (Turbo HD, AHD, HDCVI, CVBS) and IP signal input can be recognized
and connected automatically.
Go to Menu > Camera > Signal Input Status.

The Signal Input Status interface differs with different models.
Check the checkbox to select different
signal input types: HD/CVBS and IP.
Click to enter the 5 MP Long
Distance Transmission Settings interface.
Check the channel(s) to enable 5 MP
long distance transmission.
Click Apply to save the settings and OK
to return to the Signal Input Status
interface.
Click Apply on the Signal Input Status

Adding IP Cameras
Purpose
Before you can get live video or record the video files, you should add the network cameras to the connection
list of the device.
Before you start
Ensure the network connection is valid and correct, and the IP camera to add has already been activated. Please
refer to the User Manual for activating the inactive IP camera.
Go to Menu > Camera > IP Camera.
Select the IP camera from the list
and click to add the camera
(with the same admin password of
the DVR’s).
(Optional) Check Enable H.265 (For
Initial Access) for the connected IP
camera supporting H.265. Then the
IP camera will be encoded with
H.265.

Connecting PoC Cameras
Purpose
Some models support PoC (Power over Coaxitron) cameras connection. DVR will detect the connected PoC
cameras automatically, manage the power consumption via the coaxial communication, and provide power to
the cameras via coaxitron.
Before you start
Connect the PoC camera to the DVR.
Go to Menu > Camera > PoC Information.

Check the status of connected PoC camera. You can click the channels in Poc Channel to turn on/off
the PoC power supply as desired.
If the power consumption of
the DVR is higher than that of
the AT camera, when AF or AT
camera is connected, it is
powered on normally.
If the power consumption of
the DVR is lower than that of
AF camera, when AF or AT
camera is connected, there is
no video and “Insufficient
Power for PoC” is overlaid on
the live view image.
If the power consumption of
the DVR is higher than that
of the AF camera and lower
than that of the AT camera,
when AF camera is
connected, it is powered on
normally; when AT camera is
connected, it is powered on
and then powered off, and
there is no video and
“Insufficient Power for PoC”
is overlaid on the live view
image.
Note on Live View Image
Check the connected AF or AT camera number and the connectable camera number.
Only Hikvision PoC camera is supported.
The maximum connectable AT/AF camera number varies with different models.
Please turn off the PoC function if the camera does not support PoC, or the camera is not produced by
Hikvision. Otherwise, it may result in permanent damage to the camera or DVR.

Configuring General Settings
Purpose
Network settings must be properly configured before you operate DVR over network.
Go to Menu > Configuration >
Network > General.
Configure the general parameters
of network.
Click Apply to save the settings.

Configure Hik-Connect
Purpose
Hik-Connect provides mobile phone application and platform service to access and manage your connected
devices, which enables you to get a convenient remote access to the surveillance system.
Go to System > Configuration > Network > Platform Access.
Check Enable to activate the function. Then the service terms will pop up.
1) Enter the verification code in Verification Code.
2) Scan the QR code to read the service terms and privacy statement.
3) Check The Hik-Connect service will require internet access. Please read Service
Terms and Privacy Statement before enabling the service if you agree the
service terms and privacy statement.
4) Click OK to save the settings.
Hik-Connect is disabled by default.
The verification code is empty by default. It must contain 6 to 12 letters or numbers, and it is case
sensitive.
(Optional) Check Custom to enter the server address as your desire.
(Optional) Check Enable Stream Encryption, verification code is required for remote access and
live view.
Click Apply.
What to do next:
After configuration, you can access and manage your devices through Hik-Connect app or website.
Live View
Icons are provided on screen in Live View mode to indicate camera status. These icons include:

In the live view mode, there are icons at the upper-right corner of the screen for each channel, showing the
status of the record and alarm in the channel for quick reference.
Alarm (video loss, tampering, motion detection, VCA or sensor alarm)
Record (manual record, continuous record, motion detection, VCA or alarm triggered record)

Event/Exception (event and exception information, appears at the lower-left corner of the screen.)

Make sure that the disk has already been installed. If not, please install a disk and initialize it. You may refer to
the user manual for detailed information.
Purpose
Two kinds of record types are introduced in the following section, including Instant Record and All-Day Record.
And for other record types, you may refer to the user manual for detailed information.
After rebooting all the manual records enabled are canceled.
Click Start Recording from the
right-click menu.
Select Continuous Record or
Motion Detection Record on
your demand.
Click Yes in the pop-up box to
confirm the settings.

Playback
Purpose
The recorded video files and pictures on the hard disk can be played back in the following modes: instant
playback, all-day playback for the specified channel, and playback by normal/event/smart/tag/system logs/subperiods/external file search/picture.
Go to Menu > Playback.
Check the channel(s) in the channel list
for playback.
Double click a date on the calendar.
(Optional) Use the toolbar in the bottom
part of Playback interface to control the
playing progress.
(Optional) Select the channel(s) to
execute simultaneous playback of
multiple channels.

Chapter 4 Accessing by Web Browser
You shall acknowledge that the use of the product with Internet access might be under network security risks.
For avoidance of any network attacks and information leakage, please strengthen your own protection. If the
product does not work properly, please contact with your dealer or the nearest service center.
Purpose
You can get access to the device via web browser. You may use one of the following listed web browsers:
Internet Explorer 6.0, Internet Explorer 7.0, Internet Explorer 8.0, Internet Explorer 9.0, Internet Ex plorer 10.0,
Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome. The supported resolutions include 1024*768 and above.
Open web browser, enter the IP address of the
device and then press Enter.
Log in to the device.
If the device has not been activated, you need
to activate the device first by setting the
password for the admin user account.
If the device is already activated, enter the
user name and password in the login
interface, and click Login.
Install the plug-in before viewing the live video and
managing the camera. Please follow the installation
prompts to install the plug-in.
You may have to close the web browser to finish the
installation of the plug-in.
After login, you can perform the operation and
configuration of the device, including the live view,
playback, log search, configuration, etc.
