Whenusingstainlesssteelorsilverelectrodes,adebrillatordischargecurrentmay causetheelectrodestoretainaresidualchargecausingapolarizationorDCoffset voltage.ThiselectrodepolarizationblocksacquisitionoftheECGsignal.Toavoidthis condition,ifthereisasituationwhereadebrillationproceduremightbenecessary, usenon-polarizingelectrodes(whichdonotformaDCoffsetvoltagewhensubjected toaDCcurrent)suchassilver/silver-chloridetypes.
Ifyouusepolarizingelectrodes,GEHealthcarerecommendsdisconnectingthe leadwiresfromthepatientbeforedeliveringtheshock.
