ecoRoute HD Instructions

The ecoRoute™ HD device connects to your vehicle’s OBD II (On-Board Diagnostics) connector. The ecoRoute HD device records vehicle data and wirelessly sends the data to a compatible Garmin GPS device.
For complete information on using the ecoRoute HD device with your GPS device, refer to the ecoRoute HD Supplement found at www.garmin.com.
Updating Your GPS Device Software
Before using the ecoRoute HD device with your GPS device, you may need to update the GPS device software.
1. Go to www.garmin.com, and click Support > Software.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the software for your GPS device.
For specic information about updating your GPS device,
refer to the owner’s manual for your GPS device found at
www.garmin.com.
OBD II Connector Location
WARNING
If your vehicle’s OBD II connector is in close proximity to the vehicle’s pedals, to avoid the risk of pedal interference, do not install the ecoRoute HD device in your vehicle. Return the product to the place of purchase within 7 days of purchase for a refund.
The location of the OBD II connector varies for each vehicle. For the best view of the connector, open the driver door and kneel.
Search the Internet for images that show where the OBD II connector is located in your vehicle. The following are common locations in which to look for the OBD II connector:

The OBD II connector might be under a labeled cover.
• Remove or open the cover to access the connector.

Connecting and Mounting the ecoRoute HD Device
When installing the device in a vehicle, install the device securely so it does not interfere with the vehicle operating controls, such as the foot pedals, or the driver’s feet. Interference with the vehicle operating controls or feet can result in an accident, which could result in injury or death.
Defer to your vehicle’s warranty provisions and owner’s instructions for guidance on whether any OBD II connector product might void or alter your vehicle’s warranty. Garmin is not responsible for any costs or expenses associated with vehicle repairs or voided warranties.
The permanent mounting adhesive is extremely difcult to remove after it is installed.
Before installing the ecoRoute HD device, you must
update the GPS device software and nd the OBD II
connector in your vehicle.
1. Connect the ecoRoute HD connector to the OBD II connector in the vehicle.

2. If securing with double-sided mounting adhesive, clean the area where you will place the adhesive.
3. Secure the ecoRoute HD device and cable to the vehicle using the cable ties or double-sided mounting adhesive. Secure the device away from the foot pedals and the driver’s feet.

Customizing the Cable Angle
If the vehicle requires the cable to be at an angle from the connector, you can use the cable ties to customize the cable for the installation.
1. To better suit some installations, bend the cable around the connector.
2. Use a cable tie to secure the cable.
About the LEDs
The two LEDs, green and blue, on the top of the ecoRoute HD device indicate the connection status.

Viewing ecoRoute HD Data
GPS Device
Before wirelessly connecting with a GPS device, you must update the GPS device software and install the ecoRoute HD device.
1. Start the vehicle, but remain in park (stationary).
The LED blinks three times every two seconds. The ecoRoute HD device is waiting to connect with the GPS device.
2. Turn on the GPS device.
3. Bring the GPS device within 10 meters (33 feet) of the ecoRoute HD device.
4. From the Tools menu, touch ecoRoute.
5. If necessary, follow the on-screen instructions to set up ecoRoute.
6. From the ecoRoute menu, touch HD Connection.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the ecoRoute HD device with the GPS device.
The LED turns blue when the ecoRoute HD device is connected to your GPS device.
8. Turn the vehicle off and then back on to save the setup information.
After the initial connection, the ecoRoute HD device will automatically connect to the GPS device when they are turned on and are within 10 meters (33 feet) of each other.
NOTE: When the ecoRoute HD is not connected with a GPS device, the ecoRoute HD device records the vehicle information and sends the data to the GPS device the next time they connect.
If, at any time while using the ecoRoute HD device, you become concerned about your vehicle’s operation, pull over, off the roadway, in a safe and legal manner. Remove the ecoRoute HD device from the OBD II connector.
On your GPS device, touch Tools > ecoRoute.

Operating Temperature
From 5°F to 158°F (from -15°C to 70°C).
Resetting the ecoRoute Device
Reset the ecoRoute device if it stops functioning.
Press and release the RESET key to reset the device.
Press and hold the RESET key for 3 seconds to restore
• the factory settings.
NOTE: When restoring the factory settings, the wireless connection information and recorded vehicle information is deleted.

Limited Warranty
This Garmin product is warranted to be free from defects in materials or workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. Within this period, Garmin will, at its sole option, repair or replace any components that fail in normal use. Such repairs or replacement will be made at no charge to the customer for parts or labor, provided that the customer shall be responsible for any transportation cost. This warranty does not apply to: (i) cosmetic damage, such as scratches, nicks and dents; (ii) consumable parts, such as batteries, unless product damage has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; (iii) damage
caused by accident, abuse, misuse, water, ood, re, or
other acts of nature or external causes; (iv) damage caused by service performed by anyone who is not an authorized service provider of Garmin; or (v) damage to a product
that has been modied or altered without the written
permission of Garmin. In addition, Garmin reserves the right to refuse warranty claims against products or services that are obtained and/or used in contravention of the laws of any country.
This product is intended to be used only as a travel aid and must not be used for any purpose requiring precise measurement of direction, distance, location or topography. Garmin makes no warranty as to the accuracy or completeness of map data in this product.
