Firmware Bug in Option 004 Tone/Digital Signaling ROM
Parts Required: 08920-61058, Firmware Upgrade Kit
Situation:
Two firmware bugs have been discovered in the 8920A Option 004 Tone/Digital Signaling
ROM. These anomalies affect the tone sequential decoder portion of this option. They are
present in 8920As with Option 004 and firmware revision A.05.01 and below. Firmware
revision A.06.01 and above corrects this anomaly.
The first problem is that the decoder can be overly sensitive to noise which results in
repetitive measurements of a given tone. This can result in the decoded symbol being displayed twice. The second problem is that the decoder will not reliably decode multiple
sequences.
Solution/Action:
Display the current firmware revision by viewing the CONFIGURE screen. The CONFIGURE screen is accessed by pressing the SHIFT (blue) key and then the TESTS key. The
current firmware revision is displayed in the upper right hand corner of the CRT.

is A.06.01 or above, do not implement this Service Note. If the firmware revision is
A.05.01 or below, replace the Tone Signaling ROM and Operating System ROMs by
