Nowadays, many workflows are so
extensive that media come from several
entry points and are dispersed over
numerous locations and platforms.
It is often difficult to locate where to put
something and how to deliver it, or where
to find something and how to access it.
Getting or putting media instantly in the
right format at the right place is the key
challenge of actual and future workflows.
Descriptive metadata associated to those
media are often stored in numerous
databases which hardly communicate
with each other. Incomplete or
unrecoverable metadata always induce
a loss of time and money and may cause
a lot of stress.
The concept of EVS’ MediArchive
Director is to offer a set of software
tools to centrally manage the different
platforms of the workflows, including
their formats, and allow for intelligent
media browsing based on metadata
and logging. Fast and easy delivery is
automatically handled by the central
tool, which manages automated media
digitization, re-wrapping, and controls
all of the necessary robots to optimize
management and provides a costeffective content solution delivery.
M.A.D. activity includes multiple
processes management in the media
workflow :
• Ingest Process : Multiple Audio/
Video input acquisition and file
import management including
associated metadata. The ingest
management process includes
the content digitization and media
conforming (if required) as well
as media tagging and logging
management.
• Content Centralization Process :
Media centralization to a near-line
storage platform with advanced high
and low-resolution management
and access control orchestration.
• Content Delivery Process : Advanced
media browsing, selection and
delivery combining web and
broadcast technologies.
M.A.D. delivery operations
guarantee an automated generation
of multi-format content on unlimited
output platforms.
Those processes area handled by 3
modules : M.A.D. Ingest, an input module
for digitization, M.A.D. Management,
a management module, and M.A.D.
Delivery, a distribution module.
All of the modules use the same
Oracle database.
CONTENT
DIGITIZATION
& STORAGE
The ingest module can digitize from tapes
(Betacam, HDCam, etc.) or files (X-serve,
P2, XDCAM, etc.) and/or import clips
from post-production tools or IPDirector,
live feeds, metadata from databases,
text, images, and sound related to video
content. The module is used for both
metadata and video ingest preparation.
Initially, it associates a set of metadata
to a given tape or file. To make the media
search faster and easier, the sets of
metadata are classified into groups.
CONTENT
MANAGEMENT
The manager module orchestrates all
operations: content checks, backups,
logging, dispatching, mailing, copying,
etc. The system is configured so that the
systems administrator can perform the
basic set-up and create users and user
rights. A job/project philosophy is taken to
separate all requests in logical steps with
an on-going monitoring process. Alerts
and milestones are managed to link users
to various robot processes.
MULTIMEDIA
& MULTIPLATFORM
DELIVERY
The last module handles the distribution
to post-production, to the web (stream,
VOD, personalized sites), to the client by
FTP (local or remote), to local delivery, to
DVD/Blu-ray, to videotapes and to mobile.
EVS’ solution is available in multiple
formats, such as SD or HD, DNxHD
IMX, ProRes, DVCPRO, and more.
The solution is also available in multiple
resolutions. Furthermore the solution
delivers multiple tape formats,
such as DVCPRO or DigiBeta,
and multiple format files, such as PAL
or NTSC. SAN integration is also included.
The M.A.D. provides web services as an
open interface for user management,
project management, monitoring,
styling, etc. Based on a fully customizable
web library solution, all content
referenced into the database can be
instantly reviewed and researched
based on keywords. Depending on the
requirements, the web interface can
be used to create sub-clips and
order material.
