“ES” START genera suficiente potencia para hacer
girar el cigüeñal a la velocidad necesaria para arrancar
el motor casi sin contragolpe.

l . TREE SERVICE CHAIN SAW

• The saw is specially designed for tree service, i.e. for
off-ground working in trees, and when being used as

such should only be used be trained operators.
One handed operation of the saw can be dangerous.

• Be alert for the phenomena “skating” and “bouncing”,
greater risk from kickback.
Be cautious not to lose balance of your body due to
“drop” at the end of a cut.

RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION

• If working off the ground the operator must be trained
in safe climbing techniques and use of all
recommended safety equipment such as harness,
loops, strops, ropes and karabiners for himself and for
the saw.

• When hoisting a chain saw using a rope tied to a lifting
hook for operation on a tree, ensure that the lifting
hook is not strained by excessive force.

When replacing guide bar or saw chain, ask your
ECHO dealer.

l . KETTENSÄGE FÜR BAUMPFLEGE

• Die Säge ist speziell zum Schneiden in Bäumen auf
Hubgerüsten oder Leiten vorgesehen und darf daher
nur von hierfür ausgebildeten Personen verwendet
werden. Verwendung der Säge mit einer Hand kann
gefährlich sein.

• Achtung: beim Ansägen mit der Schienenspitze und
beim Hüpfen der Motrsäge besteht erhöhte
Rückschlaggefahr.

RICHTLINIEN ZUR BETRIEBSSICHERHEIT

• Für Arbeiten über dem Grund ist eine Ausbildung über
sichere Klettertechniken erforderlich, alle empfohlenen
Sicherheitsvorrichtungen wie Gurte, Schlingen,
Stoppen, Seile und Karabinerhaken für die Person und
für die Säge sind zu verwenden.

• Wird eine Motorsäge mittels eines an einem Ring
befestigten Seiles auf einen Baum hinaufgezogen, so
müssen Sie sich unbedingt vergewissern, dass der
Ring nicht überlastet wird.

ANMERKUNG

Ersetzen Sie die Kettenschiene und die Sägekette
nur durch von ECHO zugelassene Teile.

l. MOTOSIERRA PARA ARBOLES

• Esta motosierra está especialmente diseñada para
ser usada en árboles, es decir, para cortar árboles
estando alejado del suelo, y cuando se utiliza así,
sólo deberán usarla personas adiestradas y
capacitadas para este tipo de uso. El uso de esta
motosierra con una sola mano es muy peligroso.

• Tenga presentes los fenómenos de "patinaje" y
"rebote", tan peligrosos como el contragolpe

Vaya con cuidado para no desequilibrarse debido al
efecto de "caída" cuando acaba el corte.

• Si el operario trabaja alejado del suelo, deberá estar
adiestrado en las técnicas de escalada segura y
deberá usar todos los equipos de seguridad
recomendados tales como arneses, lazos, cuerdas,
etc., para sí mismo y para la motosierra.

• Cuando eleve la motosierra usando una cuerda atada
al gancho de elevación para usarla en un árbol,
asegúrese de que el gancho no sufre una presión
excesiva.

Cuando deba cambiar la barra guía o la sierra,

and how to use the chain saw properly.
Failure to follow instructions could lead to personal
injury.

• If you have any questions or problems, please contact
your ECHO dealer.

1. ALLGEMEINE SICHERHEITSHINWEISE

BEDIENUNGSANLEITUNG

• Lesen Sie die Bedienungsanleitung für Ihre Motorsäge
sorgfältig.
Machen Sie sich genauestens vertraut mit den
Bedienelementen der Motorsäge und deren
Handhabung.
Ein Nichtbefolgen der Sicherheitsanweisungen kann
zu schweren Körperverletzungen führen.

• Wenn Sie irgendwelche Fragen oder Schwierigkeiten
haben, wenden Sie sich vertrauensvoll an Ihren
ECHO-Fachhändler.

PHYSICAL CONDITION

• Do not operate a chain saw when you are fatigued or
under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• You should be in good physical and mental health in
order to handle your chain saw safely. Errors in
judgement or execution can be serious or fatal.
If you have any physical condition which strenuous
work could worsen, check with your physician before
using a chain saw.
Do not operate when ill or fatigued, or under the
influence of any substance or medication which could
affect your vision, dexterity or judgement.

1. PRECAUCIONES GENERALES

ESTADO FISICOMANUAL DE INSTRUCCIONES

• No haga funcionar la motosierra si estuviera fatigado
o bajo la influencia de alcohol o drogas.

• Ud. debe gozar de una buena salud física y mental
para poder manejar su motosierra de un modo
seguro. Los errores de criterio o uso pueden ser
graves o fatales. Si tuviera un estado físico que
pudiera empeorar con el trabajo estresante, consulte
a su médico antes de usar la motosierra.
No use la motosierra cuando esté enfermo o fatigado,
o bajo la influencia de alguna substancia o
medicación que pudiera afectar su visión, destreza o
criterio.

PERSONAL EQUIPMENT

• Always wear approved goggles to protect your eyes.
Wood chips, dust, snapping branches and other debris

I

can be thrown by the cutting chain into the operator’s
facial area.
Goggles may also offer limited protection in the event
of the cutting chain hitting the operator in the eye area.
If conditions warrant that a ventilated face shield be
worn, goggles must be worn underneath it.

• ECHO recommends wearing hearing protection at all
times.
If not followed, hearing loss can occur.
You should reduce the risk of hearing damage by
wearing either “headset” type protectors or ear plugs
which are approved by an authorized organization.

VORAUSSETZUNG FÜR SICHERES ARBEITEN

• Sie dürfen nie vergessen, dass es für sorgfältige
Handhabung und sichere Bedienung, die an anderer
Stelle in diesem Handbuch beschrieben sind, keinen
Ersatz gibt.

CAUTION

Stuffing ears with cotton is not recommended.

• All persons who make part of their living using chain
saws should be tested periodically for hearing
deterioration.

• Always wear a cap or hat when working with a chain
saw. A safety hard hat is highly recommended when
felling or working under trees, or when objects can fall
on you.

• Wear heavy duty, non-slip gloves for improved grip,
and also for protection against cold and vibration.

• Safety tip shoes or boots with non-slip sole should be
worn.

• ECHO empfiehlt, selbst bei kurzzeitiger Arbeit mit der
Kettensäge Gehörschutz zu tragen, um Hörschäden zu
vermeiden.
Einen optimalen Schutz für Ihren Kopf bietet ein
Schutzhelm mit integrietem Gesichts- und
Gehörschtuz.

• Tragen Sie stets Spezialhandschuhe für den Umgang
mit Kettensägen, wodurch die linke Hand besonders
geschützt ist.

• Tragen Sie stets Waldarbeiterschutzhosen.

• Tragen Sie stets Waldarbeiterstiefel mit Zehenkappen
aus Stahl und mit besonders geschütztem Blatt
(Fußrücken). Alle Stiefel müssen rutschfeste Sohlen
aufweisen.

EQUIPO PERSONAL

• Lleve siempre anteojos aprobados para proteger sus
ojos. Cuando la sierra corte madera podría lanzar a la
cara del usuario astillas de madera, polvo, trocitos de
rama y otros desechos. Los anteojos también pueden
servir como protección limitada en el caso de que la
sierra golpee al usuario en la zona de los ojos. Si las
condiciones exigieran el uso de una careta facial, se
deberán llevar los anteojos debajo de la misma.

• ECHO recomienda el uso de protectores del oído en
todo momento. Si no se llevaran, el usuario podría
sufrir pérdidas auditivas. Ud. debe reducir el riesgo de
daños auditivos poniéndose protectores tipo
auriculares, o tapones para los oídos aprobados por
un organismo autorizado.

NO se recomienda el uso de algodón para tapar los
oídos

• Todas las personas que usen a menudo motosierras
profesionalmente deberán realizar comprobaciones
periódicas del oído por si tuvieran pérdidas auditivas.

• Póngase siempre un sombrero o gorra cuando
trabaje con la motosierra. Se recomienda firmemente
el uso de un sombrero duro de seguridad cuando se
tale árboles, se trabaje debajo de ellos o cuando
puedan caer objetos sobre Ud.

• Póngase guantes antideslizantes fuertes para tener
un mejor agarre y también como protección contra el
frío y las vibraciones.

• Deben calzarse zapatos o botas de seguridad con
suelas antideslizantes.

• Never wear loose clothing, unbuttoned jackets, flared
sleeves and cuffs, scarves, tie-strings, neckties, cords,
chains, jewellery, etc. which could snag the saw chain
or underbrush.

• Clothing should be of sturdy, protective material. It
should be snug-fitting to resist snagging, but roomy
enough for freedom of movement.

• Trouser legs should not be flared or cuffed, and should
be either tucked into the boot tops or trimmed short.

• Safety vests, leg chaps and logger’s pants of ballistic
material are available.
It is the operator’s responsibility to wear such
additional protection if conditions warrant it.

• Never operate a chain saw when you are alone.
Arrange to have someone remain within calling
distance in case you need help.

FUEL

WARNING DANGER

• PETROL AND FUEL ARE EXTREMELY
FLAMMABLE. IF SPILLED OR IGNITED BY
IGNITION SOURCE, IT CAN CAUSE FIRE AND
SERIOUS INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.
EXTREME CAUTION IS REQUIRED WHEN
HANDLING PETROL OR FUEL.

the fuel cap and wait for pressure to be equalized
before removing the cap.

by fingers, put the attached socket wrench into the
groove of cap and turn it anticlockwise.

Do not press socket wrench forcefully, since tank cap
is plastic.
Pressing forcefully can damage tank cap.
If tank cap is damaged, do not start engine and ask
your ECHO dealer for replacement.

STARTING ENGINE

• Move the chain saw at least 3 m from the fuelling point
before starting the engine.

• Do not allow other persons to be near the chain saw
when you are starting or cutting with the chain saw.
Keep bystanders and animals out of the work area.
Do not let anyone hold wood for you to cut.

• Do not start cutting until you have a clear work area,
secure footing and a planned retreat path from the
falling tree.

• Before you start the engine, make sure that the saw
chain is not contacting anything.

• Keep the handles dry, clean, and free of oil or fuel
mixture.

Serious injury to the operator, helpers or bystanders
may result from one-handed operation. For proper
control, always use two hands when operating a chain
saw, one of which operates the trigger. Otherwise, this
can result in the chain saw “skating” or skidding, which
can result in personal injury due to loss of control.

• Keep a good firm grip on the saw which both hands,
with the right hand on the rear handle and the left hand
on the front handle, when the engine is running. Use a
firm grip with thumbs and fingers encircling the chain
saw handles. A firm grip will help you reduce kickback
and maintain control of the saw. Two hands must be
used to control the saw at all times.

• Do not overreach or cut above chest height.

• Make sure that the area in which you are cutting is free
from obstructions. Do not let the bar nose contact a
log, branch, or any other obstruction which could be hit
while you are operating the saw.

• Cutting at high engine speeds may reduce the
likelihood of kickback. But cutting at part-throttle or low
engine speeds may be preferable to control the chain
saw in tight situations and may also reduce the
likelihood of kickback.

• Follow manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance
instructions for the saw chain.

• Use only replacement guide bars and chains specified
by the manufacturer, or the acceptable equivalents of
these guide bars and chains.

3. OTHER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
VIBRATION AND COLD

It is believed that a condition called Raynaud’s
Phenomenon, which affects the fingers of certain
individuals, may be brought about by exposure to cold
and vibration.

Accordingly, your ECHO chain saw has shock mounts
designed to reduce the intensity of vibration received
through the handles.

Exposure to cold and vibration may cause tingling and
burning followed by loss of color and numbness in the
fingers. We strongly recommend you take the following
precautions because the minimum exposure which
might trigger the ailment is unknown.

to fill a part of each work day with jobs other than chain
sawing.

• If you experience discomfort, redness and swelling of
the fingers, followed by whitening and loss of feeling,
consult your physician before further exposing yourself
to cold and vibration.

3. OTRAS PRECAUCIONES DE SEGURIDAD
LAS VIBRACIONES Y EL FRIO

Se cree que puede contraerse una enfermedad
llamada fenómeno de Raynaud, que afecta a los dedos
de ciertos individuos, si se está expuesto al frío y a las
vibraciones. Por ello su motosierra ECHO tiene
soportes antisacudidas diseñados para reducir la
intensidad de las vibraciones transmitidas a través de
las asas.
La exposición a las vibraciones y al frío puede causar
el cosquilleo y quemazón de los dedos, seguidos de
pérdida de color y sensación de dedos dormidos. Le
recomendamos firmemente que tome las siguientes
precauciones ya que se desconoce cuál es la
exposición mínima que puede causar la enfermedad.

• Mantenga su cuerpo caliente, especialmente la
cabeza y el cuello, los pies y tobillos, y las manos y
muñecas.

It is believed that over-using the muscles and tendons of
the fingers, hands, arms and shoulders may cause
soreness, swelling, numbness, weakness and extreme
pain to the areas just mentioned.

To reduce the risk of repetitive stress injury, do the
following:

• Avoid using your wrist in a bent, extended or twisted
position. Instead, try to maintain a straight wrist
position. Also, when grasping, use your whole hand,
not just the thumb and index finger.

• Take periodic breaks to minimize repetition and rest
your hands.

• Reduce the speed and force in which you do the
repetitive movement.

• Do exercises to strengthen the hand and arm muscles.

• See a doctor if you feel tingling, numbness or pain in
the fingers, hands, wrists or arms.

MACHINE CONDITIONS

• Do not operate a chain saw that is damaged,
improperly adjusted, or not completely and securely
assembled.
Do not operate the chain saw with a loose or defective
silencer.
Be sure that the saw chain stops moving when the
throttle control trigger is released.

CUTTING

• Do not operate a chain saw in a tree unless you have
been specifically trained to do so.

• Keep all parts of your body away from the saw chain
when the engine is running.

• Use extreme caution when cutting small-size brush
and saplings because slender material may catch the
saw chain and be whipped toward you or pull you off
balance.

• When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert for
spring-back so that you will not be struck by the limb or
chain saw when the tension in the wood fibers is
released.

• Cutting while on a ladder is extremely dangerous
because the ladder can slip and your control of the
chain saw is limited.
Working aloft should be left to professionals.

• Stop the engine before setting the chain saw down.

CORTE

CHAIN BRAKE

The chain brake’s function is to stop chain rotation after
a kickback. It neither prevents nor reduces kickback.
Do not depend on the chain brake for protection against
kickback.
Even with a chain brake, depend on your own good
sense and proper cutting methods just as though there
were no chain brake.
Even with normal use and proper maintenance, the
response time of the brake may lengthen.
The following may interfere with the brake’s ability to
protect the operator:

Die Aufgabe der Kettenbremse ist es, nach einem
Rückschlag die Kette zu stoppen. Weder verhindert es
den Rückschlag noch reduziert sie ihn. Verlassen Sie
sich nicht auf die Kettenbremse um sich bei einem
Rückschalg zu schützen. Auch mit einer Kettenbremse
ist es unerläßlich, sich auf seine gute Wahrnehmung
und korrekte Schnittmethoden zu verlassen, so als wäre
keine Kettenbremse vorhanden. Auch bei normalem
Einsatz und korrekter Wartung kann sich die Bremszeit
verlängern. Die folgenden Fehler können den optimalen
Schutz den die Kettenbremse dem Bediener bietet,
entgegenwirken:

• Saw wrongly held too close to operator’s body.
Kickback time may be too fast even for a perfectly
maintained brake to work in time.

• The operator’s hand may not be in position to contact
the hand guard. Brake will not be tripped.

• Lack of proper maintenance lengthens the brake’s
stopping time, making it less effective.

• Dirt, grease, oil, pitch, etc. getting into the working
parts of the mechanism may lengthen the stopping
time.

• Wear and fatigue of the activating brake spring, and
wear of the brake/clutch drum and pivot points may
lengthen the brake’s stopping time.

• A damaged hand guard and lever may render the
brake inoperative.

no dispusiera de freno.
Incluso usando la motosierra normalmente y con el
mantenimiento adecuado, el tiempo de respuesta del
freno puede alargarse.
Las siguientes situaciones pueden interferir con la
utilidad del freno como protección del usuario:

• La sierra se mantiene erróneamente demasiado
cerca del cuerpo del usuario. La rapidez del
contragolpe puede ser tal que incluso un freno en
perfecto estado puede que no funcione a tiempo.

• La mano del usuario puede que no esté en contacto
con el protector de mano. El freno no se accionará.

• La falta de mantenimiento adecuado alarga el tiempo

1. OPERATOR’S MANUAL - Included with unit. Read

before operation and keep for future reference to
learn proper, safe operating techniques.

2. FRONT HAND GUARD - Guard between the front

handle and the saw chain for protecting the hand
from injuries and aiding in control of the chain saw if
the hand slips off the handle. This guard is used to
activate the chain brake which is to stop the saw
chain rotation.

3. CONTROL LEVER - Device for connecting and

disconnecting the ignition system and thus allowing
the engine to be started or stopped, and device for
enriching the fuel/air mixture in the carburettor to aid
cold starting.

4. REAR HANDLE (FOR THE RIGHT HAND) -

Support handle located towards the rear of the
engine housing.

5. SILENCER COVER - Cover the silencer not to

make operator touch to hot surface of silencer.

6. CLUTCH COVER - Protective cover to the guide

clockwise to tighten. Tighten it firmly with hand.

16. STARTER HANDLE - The grip of the starter, for
starting the engine. (“ES” START)

17. LIFTING HOOK - If working off the ground the
operator must be trained in safe climbing
techniques and use of all recommended safety
equipment.

18. AIR CLEANER COVER - Covers air filter.

19. CLEANER COVER KNOB - Device for installing the
air cleaner cover. Turn cleaner cover knob
clockwise to tighten. Tighten it firmly with hand.

20. THROTTLE TRIGGER - Device activated by the

21. THROTTLE TRIGGER LOCKOUT - A safety lever
which must be depressed before the throttle trigger
can be activated in order to prevent the accidental
