Subject: Countermeasure for the malfunction that occurs upon playing back
particular discs.
Symptom: 1) During the "TITLE REPEAT" playback of a DVD Video on which
the Chapter Number "0" has been recorded, the FL Display stops while it is
indicating the Chapter "0", when returning to the first chapter from the last
chapter. As a result, the unit does not start the playback of the first chapter.
2) Other cases: The unit is incapable of playing back particular DVD Audio Discs
such as Tchaikovsky, etc.

1) For units to which the countermeasure for the Chroma Delay in OST-803 has
not been applied:
(1) For the 1st Edition of DENON Link (Ver.6133-A): Dvd9000.rom and
D9knwchp.cfw
(2) For the 2nd Edition of DENON Link (Ver.6235-8): D9kdlse.cfw and
D9kdlsen.cfw
2) For the unit to which the countermeasure for the Chroma Delay in has been
applied:
(1) For the 1st Edition of DENON Link (Ver.6578-2): Dvd9000.rom and
D9knwchp.cfw
(2) For the 2nd Edition of DENON Link (Ver.6579-2): D9kdlse.cfw and
D9kdlsen.cfw
The firmware has been corrected so that the malfunction does not

Caution upon handling the Program Files:
The names of the above Program Files in the items #1)-(1), #2)-(1) and #3)-(1),
and the items #1)-(2), #2)-(2) and #3)-(2) are the same respectively.
• Therefore, please pay attention upon handling the Program Files.
• For avoiding an error upon writing the Program Files, please be sure to confirm
the Version of the ROM according to the item #2) Rewriting Procedures of the
ESS ROM, (4) and (5) on the following pages.
• Before starting the Modification:
The countermeasure described in the OST-834 becomes ineffective if this
modification was applied to the unit to which the countermeasure of the **OST-
834 has been applied.
**OST-834: Countermeasure for the malfunction upon playing back particular
DVD Audio discs such as ATAGIIN.
• Therefore, regarding the particular complaint such as the malfunction upon
playing back particular DVD Audio disc ATAGIIN, please apply the modification
in the OST-834, without applying this modification of OST-851.
• When you received a complaint from your customer about the above item #1) of
the Clause #3. SYMPTOM, and when the countermeasure in the OST-834 is
applicable to his unit, please explain to your customer that we have to select
either one of applicable countermeasure among two countermeasures at
present. Then, please apply the countermeasure of either the OST-834 or this
OST-851 to his unit so that the countermeasure agrees with the using-condition
of the customer's unit.
MODIFICATION PROCEDURE:
1) Preparation of the disc for rewriting:
The Firmware to be used as the countermeasure differs depending on whether
the countermeasure for the Chroma Delay in OST-803 has been applied or not.
Also, the Firmware that is actually used for the countermeasure differs depending
upon new or old Versions of the DENON Link and the ESS Chip.
• However, please record the following four program files in each item on a blank
CD-R together respectively, since the unit performs rewriting operation while it is
