The Clarion BLT573 is a CeNET
Bluetooth
®
interface adapter that allows you to utilize your car’s built-in audio system for wireless mobile phone handsfree communication. The car stereo with BLT573 installed will be able to retrieve phonebook contacts, received call, dialled call, missed call, incoming and outgoing calls.
BLT573 is specially designed to work with MAX973HD main unit (Update until May2007). For MAX973HD and mobile phone operations, please refer to the relevant owner’s manual. No any other car stereo can be connected.

3. CONNECTION
Please consult your nearest Clarion dealer before attempting to connect BLT573 to your main unit. Improper connection might damage your main unit, BLT573, or your vehicle wiring.
Please refer to the wiring instructions for your main unit or contact your Clarion Dealer.
Notes:
The C-Bus conversion adaptor (RCB-138) is not compatible with current system.
Please use the microphone included in MAX973HD. Connect the BLT573 and the main unit with the included
microphone extension cable.
There is a cover on the left CeNet connector. Please do not peel the cover off when not in use as it is only for
connecting to other CeNet device. Use the right CeNet connector for connecting to main unit.
Connect the BLT573 to the MAX973HD.

4. INSTALLATION
There are no moving parts in BLT573. However, caution must be taken to ensure minimum damage to the unit. Do not press, puncture or drop the unit at anytime. Install the unit where there is no direct sunlight, away from vents or high moisture areas and away from other vehicle electronic components. Mount BLT573 away from moving parts in the vehicle.
Using Screws
There are screws mounting holes in BLT573. Before drilling, make sure there are no hidden wires and parts that might be damaged.
Improper wiring might damage BLT573 and MAX973HD.

This is commonly used to allow car hands-free kits to communicate with mobile phones in the car. The

profiles?
Bluetooth
®
wireless profiles are the different
ways that
Bluetooth
®
devices communicate with
other devices.
Bluetooth
®
phones support either
the headset profile (HSP
)
, the hands-free profile
(
HFP) or both. In order to support a certain profile, a phone manufacturer must implement certain mandatory features within the phone’s software. The followings are the currently supported profiles for BLT573.
Headset Profile (HSP
)
This is the most commonly used profile, providing minimal controls including the ability to ring, answer a call, hangs up and adjusts the volume.

Passkey or PIN is a code that you enter on your mobile phone to pair it with the

receiver
unit. This makes your phone and the

receiver unit recognize each other and automatically work together

Object Push Profile (OPP
)
A basic profile for sending “objects”, such as contacts and virtual business cards. It is called push because the transfers are always instigated by the sender (Client), not the receiver (Server).

There are some indicators in the main unit that correspondence with BLT573.
Please refer to your main unit owner’s manual for further details and indicators support.
Bluetooth® indication
This indicator shows the status of the
Bluetooth
®
device.
6. MAIN FEATURES
Network Signal Strength Indication
This indicator will display the network signal coverage of the connected mobile phone. The actual range will depend on the main unit and mobile phone.
Battery state indication
This indicator can display the battery level of the connected mobile phone. The actual range will depend on the main unit and mobile phone.
The indication on the main unit may not always be the same with the indication on the phone as there might be some delay between the two devices.
Option Menu
There will be some options available in the main unit (MAX973HD
)
when BLT573 is connected. In order to display these options, please refer to the car stereo owner’s manual for these operations.

Pairing
This option is used to perform
Bluetooth

pairing with the mobile phone. Up to a maximum of 5 devices can be paired.
There are 2 pairing methods:
Search Mode
User can search the
Bluetooth
®
mobile phone via BLT573. The general steps for performing the operation will be the followings.
1. Activate
Bluetooth

on your mobile phone. Please check your mobile phone owner’s manual for further details.
2. Set the BLT573 in “
SEARCH” mode.
3.

4. When attempting to connect to the mobile phone, the mobile phone will prompt for a passkey, enter the request PIN code. The timeout for inputing PIN code is 1 minute.
5. Connection will be automatically started upon su cces s ful p airi n g if the r e is no other connected device.

Default PIN code is “1234”.
Wait Mode
Alternatively, user can search the BLT573 via the mobile phone.
1. Activate
Bluetooth

on your mobile phone. Please check your mobile phone owner’s manual for further details.
2. Set the BLT573 in “WAIT” mode
(
Discoverable).
3. Search for new
Bluetooth
®
device on the mobile
phone. The BLT573 default name is ‘BLT570
’. Default name may change according to the car stereo. Please refer to the car stereo owner’s manual.
4. When attempting to connect to the BLT573, the mobile phone will prompt for a passkey, enter the request PIN code.
5. Connection will be automatically started upon su c cessf u l pa iring if t here is n o ot her connected device.

Pairing special device
This is used for pairing special
Bluetooth

device which cannot carry out pairing in usual pairing mode.
Please use this pairing mode if your
Bluetooth
®
device is listed in the menu.
1. During “
SELECT” option, choose one of the 5
devices from the list to establish a connection.
2. Connected device will be able to use all the functionalities provided.
Deleting device
This is a setting for user to delete any one of the paired device from the list.
1. During “DELETE” option, choose one of the 5 devices from the list to be deleted.
2. Confirm the paired device deleti on when prompt.

it is necessary to del et e the BLT573 from the mo bi le phone as wel l an d vice vers a. Fai ling to do so will result pairing difficulties between the two devices in the future.
Microphone gain
Ch angi ng thi s optio n will affec t the ech o cancellation and noise reduction.
Please refer your car stereo owner’s manual for more information.
Ring volume
This option is used to change the ringing volume when there is an incoming call. The volume control is done by the mobile phone itself. However, if the mobile phone cannot support the ringing sound, the phone volume can be controlled through the volume setting in car stereo. Please refer your car stereo owner’s manual for more information.
Note:
Communication volume will depend on main unit.
Selecting device
This is a setting for user to select any one of the paired mobile phones to be connected to the BLT573.

Automatic answering
This is a setting to determine whether any incoming call will be automatically or manually answered. The adjustment can be set to ON or OFF.
ON : An y inco ming call is auto matic ally
answered in 8 seconds
OFF : User needs to manually answer the call.
Default setting is ON.
Notes:

The time is counted from incoming call to answering
call.
Ringing sound period may be around 4 to 8 seconds
when the main unit is switching from other modes to Telephone mode during an incoming call.
Incoming call refusal
This function allows all incoming calls to be refused. The adjustment can be set to ON or OFF.
ON : All incoming calls are automatically
refused.
OFF : Incoming call notification enabled.
Default setting is OFF.
Note:
When this adjustment is set to ON, there are a
few things to note:
- Automatic answering will be disabled even if it is set
to ON.
- If automatic answering is set in the mobile phone,
it will be disconnected directly.
- Out-going call can still be made.
Automatic connection
This function allows BLT573 to be connected automatically with previously connected device. Connection can be established at any source mode.
The adjustment can be set to ON or OFF.
ON : Automatic connection is enabled
OFF : Automatic connection is disabled
Default setting is ON.
Notes:
Automatic connection will be temporary disable
during pairing.
When the car ignition is turned on, any telephone
sp eak in g will be aut oma ti cal ly in ter rup te d to the car stereo and allowing user to continue the conversation through car stereo.
If mob i l e de v ice i s ma nua l l y di s con nec t e d,
automatic connection will not work.
PIN code
This PIN code is used during pairing mode. A maximum of 16 digits can be changed through the car stereo. However, this number can only be changed by some car stereo, please refer to car stereo owner’s manual for details.
Default PIN code is “1234”.

Bluetooth® address
This will hold the unique
Bluetooth

address of the
BLT573. The address is 12 figures.
Version
This will display the software version of the BLT573.

Handsfree Operations
There will be some options available in the main unit when BLT573 is connected. In order to display these options, it will depend on each car stereo model. Please refer to the car stereo owner’s manual for these operations.

Downloading phonebook
Phonebook in the mobile phone can be downloaded into the BLT573 when the phone is paired and connected. The mobile phone must support automatic phonebook synchronization in order to perform this automatic phonebook download. Otherwise, user can manually transfer the contacts to the BLT573.
BLT573 is able to hold 500 contacts per mobile phone. There are 5 categories of telephone numbers can be stored on each contact
(
General,
Home, Office, Mobile and other
)
and up to 5 mobile phones can be supported in BLT573. Depending on the number of contacts, some amount of time may be required until all the contacts have been downloaded.
The phonebook will be updated automatically everytime it connects
(
only if the phone supports
automatic phonebook synchronization).

Received/Dialled/Missed Call History
Any Received/Dialled/Missed call history made will be stored in the BLT573 depends on the type of phone. The BLT573 can hold up to 60 previously call numbers (or according to the phone specification) for each category respectively.
Note:
Some phones support downloading of previously
Received/Dialled/Missed Call History.
Call Function
The Clarion car stereo must set to telephone interrupt mode to be able to work with the BLT573, please refer to the owner’s manual of each model for details.
Incoming Call
Whenever your car stereo is operating, the BLT573 is in standby mode awaiting the next call, when an incoming call arrives the car stereo is mute automatically and the ring tone is reproduced through your car’s speaker.
Main unit will temporarily switch to Telephone mode.
Name and telephone will only be displayed in the main unit if the contact is stored in the BLT573 phonebook.
Display will be vary depends on main unit.
Notes:
When an incoming call occurs during Power OFF
but car ignition ON, some car stereos will be able to temporary Power ON and switch to Telephone Mode. After the conversation, system will return to pow er OFF status . Pl ea se refer to the car stereo owner’s manual.
Display will return to previous mode after call is
ended or rejected.
Always avoid us ing the phone when it is in low
battery level as some mobile phones may cause noises to the speakers.

Answering a call
User can answer an incoming call directly from the car stereo. Please refer to your car stereo owner’s manual for the button operation. Alternatively, you may also answer the call by using your phone’s answer keypad. In this case, you can transfer the call to the car stereo by following the instruction in the section “Transferring a call”.

To reject a call
This function allows you to reject an incoming call via the car stereo. Alternatively, you may also reject the call by using your phone’s keypad.
Note:
This will depend on the type of phone.
Ending a call
Use either one of the following methods to end a call:
1. To end a call from the car stereo, please refer to your car stereo owner’s manual.
2. End a call from the phone’s keypad.
Call waiting
When there is an incoming call during a call conversation, it is possible that the call can be answered via car stereo. Please refer your car stereo owner’s manual for further details on this operation.
Note:

Making a call
There are 2 ways to make outgoing call.
Direct Number Call
Outgoing call can be made by entering telephone numbers directly via the car stereo.
Telephone number uses 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, *, #, and +.
Call from Phonebook
Us er can se arc h the con tac t name in the phonebook and make call.
Alternatively, user can call from mobile phone.
Notes:
If no phone is connected, car stereo will not be
able to make outgoing call.
If call is made directly from the keypad of mobile
phone, telephone numbers and name may be displayed in the main unit. This will depend on mobile phone.
Redial
When the phone is connected, redial can be performed as it remembers the last dialed number. Each phone has its own redial number. If there’s no redial number, operation will not be performed.
Transferring a call (Private Mode
)
This function allows user to transfer a call from car stereo to mobile phone.
During a call, press the relevant button on the car stereo to transfer the call to the mobile phone. A call can be transferred back to car stereo by performing transfer call function in the phone. Please refer your car stereo and mobile phone owner’s manual for further operation.
Note:
This function is dependent on the type of phone.
Some phones are not supported.

Problem

Cause
Phone is not connected with
BLT573.
Connect the phone with BLT573. Please refer to your car stereo and mobile phone owner’s manual for pairing.
Phone does not have the relevant

profile.
Use a phone with required

Safe and efficient use
Note: Read this information before using your BLT573.
Changes or modifications to this product not expressly approved by Clarion may void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
Please check for any exceptions, due to national requirements or limitations, in usage of equipment with
Bluetooth

wirelesss technology before using
this product.
Product care
Do not expose your product to liquid or moisture
or to humidity.
Do not expose your product to extreme high or
low temperatures.
Do not expose your product to lit candles,
cigarettes, or cigars, or to open flames etc.
Do not drop, throw or try to bend the product
as rough treatment could damage it.
Do not use any other accessories than Clarion
originals intended for use with this product. Use of non-original accessories may result in loss of performance, damage to the product, fire, electric shock or injury. The warranty does not cover product failures which have been caused by use of non-original accessories.
Do not attempt to disassemble your product. The
product does not contain consumer serviceable or replaceable components. Only Clarion service partners should perform service.
Do not keep the product in an area prone to
dust and dirt. Only use a soft damp cloth to clean your product.
If you will not be using the product for a while,
store it in a place that is dry, free from damp, dust and extreme temperatures.
To reduce risk of electric shock, unplug the unit
from any power source before attempting to clean it.
Installation
Please note that only authorised personnel should install the BLT573. Please check with your car dealer for recommendations on professional installat ion engineers. Check with your car manufacturer’s representative to be sure that all equipment for the BLT573, including additional accessories, is placed in a safe location. If your car is equipped with an air bag, check that the handsfree equipment does not interfere with its function.
Radio frequency exposure
Your BLT573 is a radio transmitter and receiver. When in operation, it communicates with a mobile device featuring

wireless technology by receiving and transmitting radio frequency (RF)
electromagnetic fields

in the frequency range 2400 to 2500 MHz. The output power of the radio transmitter is low, 0.001 watt.
The BLT573 is designed to operate in compliance with the RF exposure guidelines and limits set by national authorities and international health agencies when used with any compatible mobile phone with

wireless technology.
Driving
Check the laws and regulations on the use of mobile phones and handsfree equipment in the areas where you drive.
Always give full attention to driving and pull off the road and park before making or answering a call if driving conditions so require.
RF energy may affect some electronic systems in motor vehicles such as car stereo, safety equipment etc. Check with your vehicle manufacturer’s representative to be sure that your mobile phone or BLT573 will not affect the electronic systems in your vehicle.

Electronic equipment
Most modern electronic equipment is shielded from RF energy. However, certain electronic equipment is not, therefore:
Do not use your BLT573 near medical equipment without requesting permission. If you are using any personal medical devices, e.g. a pacemaker or a hearing aid, please read in your mobile phone’s User’s Guide for further information.
Blasting areas
Turn off all your electronic devices when in a blasting area or in areas posted turn off two-way radio to avoid interfering with blasting operations. Construction crews often use remote control RF devices to set off explosives.
Potentially explosive atmospheres
Turn off your electronic device when in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere. It is rare, but your electronic device could generate sparks. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death.
Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere are often, but not always, clearly marked.
Children
Do not allow children to play with your BLT573 since it contains small parts that could become detached and create a choking hazard.
Emergency calls
This BLT573, and t he electronic device connected to the handsfree operate using radio signals, cellular, bluetooth wireless technology and landline networks as well as user-programmed functions, which cannot guarantee connection under all conditions. Ther efore you sho uld never rel y sole ly upon any electronic device for essential communications (e.g. medical emergencies).
Remembe r, in order to make or receive calls, the BLT573 and the electronic device connected to the handsfree must be switched on and in a service area with adequate cellular signal strength. Emergency calls may not be possible on all cellular phone networks or when certain network services and/or phone features are in use. Check with your local service provider.
IMPORTANT!
If you want to dispose this product, do not mix it with general household waste. There is a separate collection system for used el ectro nic pro duc ts in accordan ce with legislation that requires proper treatment, recovery and recycling.
CAUTION!
Private households in the 25 member states of the EU, in Switzerland and Norway may return their used electronic products free of charge to designated collection facilities or to a retailer (if you purchase a similar new one). For countries not mentioned above, please contact your local authorities for the correct method of disposal. By doing so you will ensure that your disposed product under goes the necessary treatment, recovery and recycling and thus prevent potential negative effects on the environment and human health.
