Thank you for purchasing Canon imageCLASS MF5530.
To get your machine ready for use,please follow the instructions in this sheet before referring to any other documentation.

Unpack the machine and its components.

Check that you have the following:

Power cord

●

USB cable

●

Documentation (Set-Up Sheet, Basic Guide, Registration Card,Limited Warranty Note,
Limited Warranty Note for Cartridge X25)

Cassette extension

Extension cover

Remove the shipping materials and install the cassette.

1 Place the machine on a flat surface.
2 Remove all shipping tapes from the exterior of the machine.
3 Open the document feeder tray.

4 Pull out the paper cassette completely.

5 Attach the cassette extension to the cassette.

6 Attach the extension cover on the back of

the machine.

7 Insert the paper cassette back into the

machine.

Install the cartridge.

4 Pull open the front cover by the indentations

on both sides of the machine.

1 Remove the cartridge from the bag. Keep the

bag in a safe place for future use.

2 Gently rock the cartridge several times to

evenly distribute the toner inside.

3 Hold the cartridge on a flat stable surface with

one hand, and break the tab ➀ and pull out
the seal

➁ completely with the other hand.

5 Hold the cartridge so that the instructions are

facing up, and insert it in the machine
horizontally as far as it will go.

6 Close the front cover of the machine.

Connect the power cord.

1 Plug the power cord into the rear socket ➀.Then connect the other end of the cord

to the wall outlet ➁.

Use of a power cord with ferrite cores (included) is required to comply with class limits in Subpart B of Part 15 of the FCC
Rules.

2 When you connect the machine, the following messages should appear in the LCD.

Make sure the correct paper size is specified in the machine. For details,see p. 2-7 of the Basic Guide.

3 Load the paper into the cassette.Make sure

the paper stack sits below the hooks.

5 Even out the edges of the paper stack.

Make sure the height of the paper stack does
not exceed the limit marks .

6 Insert the paper cassette back into the

machine as far as it will go.

Load paper.

Pull out the paper cassette completely.

2 Pinch and slide the rear paper end guide to

match the size of paper.

4 Pinch and slide the side paper end guides to

match the size of paper.

If you do not completely insert the cassette into the machine, paper jams may occur.

Install the software and connect the machine to your computer.

IMPORTANT

●

Do not connect the USB cable before installing the software. If you connect the USB cable before installing the software
and the Found New Hardware Wizard screen appears, click [Cancel].

NOTE

●

The instructions below are for Windows XP. For Windows 98/Me/2000,see the Software Guide.

For Windows 2000/XP, log on as Administrator to install the software.

1 Turn on your computer.
2 Quit any open applications, including virus checking software.
3 Insert the imageCLASS MF5500 Series User Software CD into the CD-ROM drive.
4 When the Canon MF5550/MF5530 Main Menu screen appears, click [Install Software].

If the Main Menu screen is not displayed, on the Windows desktop,click [Start] ➝ [My Computer].
Open the CD-ROM icon, then double-click [setup (setup.exe)].

5 When the Canon Multi-function Printers InstallShield Wizard screen appears, click

[Next >] and follow the instructions on the screen.

6 When the installation is complete,click [Finish] to close the InstallShield Wizard.

7 When prompted to connect the USB cable,click [OK]. Make sure the machine’s power

is turned on, and connect the cable to the USB port on the back of the machine.
Then connect the other end of the cable to the USB port on your computer.

8 Click [Exit] to close the MF5550/MF5530 Main Menu. Remove the imageCLASS

MF5500 Series User Software CD from the CD-ROM drive and store it in a safe place.
