Matrix 1 Series2
Stand-mount/Bookshelf loudspeaker system
Product Summary
Advanced technology of the order found in the Matrix series could only have originated in what is generally regarded as one of the most advanced loudspeaker research laboratories in Europe. Computer Aided Design has been utilised to develop the range enabling the engineers to simulate the building of woofers and tweeters, predicting performance. Matrix cabinet bracing provides an inspired answer to the adverse effect which the monitor cabinet can have on sound quality. The loudspeakers are finished in a choice of real wood veneers.
The Matrix 1 Series 2 comprises one 6-in bass/midrange drive unit with polypropylene cone and one 1-in metal dome tweeter high frequency tweeter.
Laser interferometry was used to identify distor tion by measuring extremely small movements. As a good indicator of unwanted cabinet resonances, this technique played a crucial part in determining Matrix technology employed in the series 2.
Technical highlights
B&W's Tweeter technology ensures that the sound remains focused and time sensitive and that the stereo image is presented with unparalleled three dimensional accuracy.
Driver protection: The method used for driver protection against excessive overload is simplicity itself. Once dangerous input levels are reached the patent APOC circuit disconnects the tweeter alerting the listener to reduce the volume.
Simplified crossovers: In sophisticated loudspeaker technology it is true to say that the fewer crossover components there are the better. Crossovers are no exception. In the Series 2, by reducing the number, signal is given a more direct path to the drive units. This has only become possible because the drivers themselves are more linear and also cleaner in their reproduction and therefore needs less correction than was necessary in the original crossover design.
