SAFETY INFORMATION
1. Parts that have special safety characteristics are identified by the symbol on schematics
or by special notes on the parts list. Use only replacement parts that have critical characteristics
recommended by the manufacturer.
2. Make leakage current or resistance measurements to determine that exposed parts are
acceptably insulated from the supply circuit before returning the unit to the customer.
Use the following checks to perform these measurements:
A. Leakage Current Hot Check-With the unit completely reassembled, plug the AC line cord
directly into a 120V AC outlet. (Do not use an isolation transformer during this test.) Use a leak-
age current tester or a metering system that complies with American National Standards Institute
(ANSI) C101.1 “Leakage Current for Appliances” and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) UL6500 /
UL60065 / IEC 60065 paragraph 9.1.1. With the unit powered on, measure from a known earth
ground (metal water pipe, conduit, etc.) to all exposed metal parts of the unit (antennas, handle
bracket, metal cabinet, screw heads, metallic overlays, control shafts, etc.), especially any
exposed metal parts that offer an electrical return path to the chassis. Any cur-rent measured
must not exceed 0.5 milliamp. Reverse the unit power cord plug in the outlet and repeat test.
ANY MEASUREMENTS NOT WITHIN THE LIMITS SPECIFIED HEREIN INDICATE A POTEN-
TIAL SHOCK HAZARD THAT MUST BE ELIMINATED BEFORE RETURNING THE UNIT TO THE
CUSTOMER.
B. Insulation Resistance Test Cold Check-(1) Unplug the power supply and connect a jumper
wire between the two prongs of the plug. (2) Turn on the power switch of the unit. (3) Measure
the resistance with an ohmmeter between the jumpered AC plug and each exposed metallic
cabinet part on the unit. When testing 3 wire products, the resistance measured to the product
enclosure should be between 2 and infinite MOhms. Also, the resistance measured to exposed
input/output connectors should be between 4 and infinite MOhms. When testing 2 wire products,
the resistance measured to exposed input/output connectors should be between 4 and infinite
MOhms. If it is not within the limits specified, there is the possibility of a shock hazard, and the
unit must be repaired and rechecked before it is returned to the customer.
PART LIST NOTES
1. This part is not normally available from Customer Service. Approval from the Field Service
Manager is required before ordering.
2. The individual parts located on the PCBs are listed in the Electrical Part List.
3. This part is critical for safety purposes. Failure to use a substitute replacement with the
same safety characteristics as the recommended replacement part might create shock, fire
and/or other hazards.
4. This part is referenced for informational purposes only. It is not stocked as a repair part. Refer
to the next higher assembly for a replacement part.

WARRANTY
The Bose® Computer MusicMonitor™ is covered by a 1-year transferrable, limited warranty.
Product Description
The Bose® Computer MusicMonitor™ is a two-piece speaker system about 1/3 the total size of a Companion 2 PC speaker. The Speaker System provides surprisingly deep bass and spaciousness for its size. It is
also an impressively elegant product – not targeting the entry-level pricing of the Companion 2, but rather
targeting a customer looking for an additional “wow” factor. Further differentiating itself, it uses Bose proprietary slotted internal opposing passive radiator technology. The Computer MusicMonitor™ will play bass as
deep as Companion 2, and at a higher maximum SPL than Companion 2.
Repairability
The speaker assemblies are not repairable. Once opened, the gasket used to acoustically seal the assembly will be compromised. Re-using the gasket may cause air leaks or distortion. The gasket will not be
available as a service part, it is recommended to replace the entire assembly when it is defective. Both left
and right speakers are available for replacement. See page 4 for part numbers.
Demo Mode
The Speaker System demo mode enables sales channels to build a highly effective display, in “low sales
touch” environments, with a variable-source input. In demo mode, The Speaker System turns on automatically when power is applied. When the Speaker System turns on in demo mode the volume is automatically
set to maximum.
Entering Demo Mode:
Turn on the Computer MusicMonitor™ Press and hold the volume up button until the volume reaches
maximum and the LED starts to blink. Continue to hold the volume up button (approximately 30 seconds)
until the LED stops blinking, which indicates that the Speaker System has entered demo mode.
Leaving Demo Mode:
Turn on the Computer MusicMonitor™. Press and hold the volume down button until volume reaches
minimum and the LED starts to blink. Continue to hold the volume down button (approximately 30 seconds)
until the LED stops blinking, which indicates that the speakers have left demo mode and returned to normal
behavior. The speakers can only enter and leave demo mode 25 times. When the speakers leave demo
mode for the 50th time, it will not be possible to place that unit back into demo mode. To determine the
speakers are in demo mode, turn them off and back on. Press the volume up button once. If the LED blinks
twice, it is in demo mode. If it blinks once, it is not in demo mode. (If M3.2 is at maximum volume when it is
turned off, then upon turn-on, the volume will be set to maximum in demo mode, but only to the maximum
threshold value if not in demo mode).

LISTENING TEST PROCEDURE
Test Equipment required:
Audio Signal Generator
Test Set up
a. Connect speaker cable from the left speaker to the right speaker.
b. Connect a signal generator to the audio input cable and connect the cable to the input jack on
the right speaker.
c. Connect the power adapter to the power input on the right speaker.
NOTE: For all listening tests (air leak and sweep test), listening should be done at a distance of
2 feet (0.6 meters) in a quiet environment. Listening distance must be decreased to 1 foot (0.3
meters) in a noisy environment. There should be no audible distortion during any test.
The speaker assemblies are not repairable. Once opened, the gasket used to acoustically seal
the assembly will be compromised. Re-using the gasket may cause air leaks or distortion, it is
recommended to replace the entire assembly when it is defective. Both left and right speakers
are available for replacement. See page 4 for part numbers.
1. Air Leak Test
The air leak test is performed just below the loudspeaker’s tuned frequency. At this frequency, the
passive radiators exhibit high excursion. Therefore, it is normal to hear suspension noise from the
passive radiators.
1.1 Apply a 300 mVrms, 60 Hz signal to the input.
1.2 Set the volume to the maximum setting by pressing the volume + button.
1.3 Listen carefully for air leaks from the cabinet seams around the transducer and at the input
terminals.
1.4 Replace system if air leaks can be heard.
2. Sweep test
2.1 Apply a 300 mVrms, 60 Hz signal to the input.
2.2 Set the volume to the maximum setting by pressing the volume + button.
2.3 Listen carefully as you sweep the bass module from 40 Hz to 5 kHz, then from 5 kHz to 40 Hz.
2.4 Listen carefully for buzzes, rattles, or other extraneous noises from the speaker cabinet. A
slight whooshing sound from the port (at approximately 70 Hz) is acceptable.
2.5 Replace system if buzzes or rattles can be heard from the cabinet.
