u Modular design
u Easy detector removal for cleaning and servicing
u Stable mounting of detectors
The FAA‑440 Analog Bases come in two sizes (4 in. [10 cm] and 6 in. [16 cm]) and two models (Standard and ISO which has a built‑in isolator). They are used in combination with FAP-440 and FAH-440 analog addressable detectors to provide early fire warning for life safety and property protection.
Functions
Indicator LED (Isolator Bases)
In the event of a short circuit, the isolator base LED will show a steady yellow signaling a trouble condition.
Modular Design
The detector base is part of a two-piece modular designed detector assembly. The permanently installed base provides in and out terminals for the polling circuit.
Preservation of loop
It contains a simple rugged design with terminal screws for wiring and preserves loop continuity when detectors are removed.
provided
u Some models include isolator circuitry which
prevents the entire SLC loop from being disabled when a short circuit occurs
Locking System
A simple tamper‑proof locking system is provided which can be enabled by removing a small plastic tab on the back of the detector. Once locked, the detector can only be removed by using a small screw driver.

Mounting Considerations
Detectors are typically mounted on the ceiling. However, if detectors are mounted on a wall, they must be at least 4 in. (10.2 cm), but no more than 12 in. (30.5 cm), below the ceiling. When other devices containing magnets or producing magnetic fields (for example, loudspeakers) are present in the area, the base must be at least 1 ft (30 cm) from these devices to prevent unwanted activation of the test switch.
For UL Listing requirements, the spacing between smoke detectors should be no more than 30 ft (9.14 m and the spacing between heat detectors should be no more than 50 ft (15.24 m).
Wiring Considerations
The control panel communicates to the detectors via the analog addressable loop (SLC), which allows the use of standard non‑twisted, non‑shielded wiring. The following wire gauges were tested and approved:
