u Low‑profile modular design
u Addressable application
The D298M Master Detector Base and the D298S Detector Base are used with smoke and heat detector heads to provide early warning fire detection for life safety and property protection systems. The D298M and D298S are 24 VDC bases for use in systems controlled by either:
• a D7412G (or newer) or D9412G (or newer) control panel with a D8125 POPEX Module and 24 VDC auxiliary power supply, or
• a D9124 Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP)
The D298M provides individual addresses on the FACP data expansion circuit and accepts the D285/D285TH Photoelectric Smoke Detector Heads, the D286 Ionization Smoke Detector Head, or the D603, D604, and D605 Heat Detector Heads. It connects to the D263 Photoelectric Smoke Detector or the D263TH Photoelectric Smoke Detector with fixed‑temperature (135°F [57°C]) heat sensor. It also acts as the master in a slave circuit consisting of up to 19 D287 or D288 Two-wire Detector Bases with D285/D285TH Photoelectric Smoke Detector Heads, D286 Ionization Smoke Detector Heads, or D603, D604, or D605 Heat Detector Heads. The D298M needs a 3 kΩ end‑of‑line resistor (P/N: F01U008725) to complete the circuit and provide supervision.
u Easy head removal for cleaning and servicing
The D298S has a built‑in POPIT to provide individual addresses on the FACP data expansion circuit and accepts the D285 Series Photoelectric Smoke Detector Heads and the D603, D604, and D605 Heat Detector Heads. When used with the D285 Series detector heads, the D298S indicates Chamber Check trouble to the control panel through the POPIT bus. The Chamber Check trouble indication appears on the keypads as a fire trouble. These detector bases use the PAM‑4 Relay Module to provide two Form C dry contact auxiliary outputs. Removing a detector head from an active polling circuit sends a trouble signal to the control panel, but does not interrupt the polling circuit.

Wiring
The D298M and D298S bases accept any solid wire from 12 AWG to 24 AWG (ISO 4 mm2 to 0.2 mm2). The minimum wire size depends on the number of bases used and the distance from the FACP to the farthest base. For specific wiring requirements, see the D278S/
D298S Installation Instructions or the D298M Installation Instructions.
