AR5001D FIRMWARE UPGRADE
FIRMWARE VERSION CHECK
To display the current firmware version of the AR5001D, perform the following steps:
(Power on the receiver)
1. Press the [FUNC] key, and then press the [kHz] key.
2. Press the [UP] key three times to select “VERSION” in reverse contrast.
3. Press the [MHz] key to display the current firmware version of the receiver.
will show firmware versions of 3 different units, as follows:
Main_XXXY (for main unit)
DXXXY (for decoder)
PXXXY (for panel)
Please write down the 3 current version numbers. Doing so you will be able to check later if the
upgrade to the new versions has been successful.
4. Press the [CRL] key twice to return to the standard display.
SOFTWARE & HARDWARE REQUIRMENTS
1. software “SHBOOT” supplied by AOR.
2. PC running Windows 2000 or XP SP2, or newer, with a vacant serial communication port
(COM port).
3. Serial cable (female-female). UPDATE DOES NOT WORK THROUGH THE
RECEIVER’S USB PORT! Nevertheless you can use a common “USB to serial adapter”
and connect the serial side to the receiver, and the USB side to the PC.
4. 3 boot files and 5 firmware files supplied by AOR
HOW TO ACCESS
Power OFF the receiver.
Access the DIP SWITCH area as illustrated (illustration approximate). Remove the screw which holds the
little metal plate.

These are the default dip switch positions
To update the firmware, DIP switches need to be repositioned. The previous illustration shows the
location of the DIP switches, and their default (factory setting) position.
Only the areas labeled S1 and S2 need to be repositioned. Do not touch the S3 button.
LOADING DATA
First put the folder of data files provided by AOR anywhere in your hard drive, except the desktop. The
update procedure might fail (on some non-English Windows O.S) if the data is placed on the desktop.
Start the flash writer program (SHBoot) by double clicking the SHboot icon. The following screen should
be seen.
Proceed in the following order:
MAIN (CONTROL) FIRMWARE UPGRADE –double firmware-
The receiver is OFF.
Set the dip switch #1 of S1 to the “ON” position.
Power on the receiver but only with the power switch on the back of the receiver.
Load the BOOT file “boot_AR2300_Control.mot”
To load the data, click the button and navigate to the folder containing the data.
Load the FIRMWARE, of which version will depend on your receiver’s serial number!
From 09350001 to 09350106: “AR2300_CT_init_121121.mot”
From 09350107 to 09350506: “AR2300_CT_init_110829.mot”
From 09350507 and up: “AR2300_CT_init_121121.mot”
To load the data, click the button
Click on WRITE START
and navigate to the folder containing the data.
Wait until the progress bar has finished to move. This takes about 30 seconds.
Power OFF the receiver.
DON’T FORGET to put the dip switch back into its default position now!
Power on the receiver but only with the power switch on the back of the receiver. Let it on for 30
seconds.
Power OFF the receiver.
Set the dip switch #1 of S1 to the “ON” position.
Power on the receiver but only with the power switch on the back of the receiver.
Load the FIRMWARE “AR5001D_CT_01_309B.mot”
To load the data, click the button and navigate to the folder containing the data.
Click on WRITE START
Wait until the progress bar has finished to move. This takes about 30 seconds.
Power OFF the receiver.
DON’T FORGET to put the dip switch back into its default position now!
PANEL FIRMWARE UPGRADE
The receiver is OFF.
Set the dip switches #2 of S1 and #1 of S2 to the “ON” position.
Power on the receiver but only with the power switch on the back of the receiver.
Load the BOOT file “boot_AR5001D_Panel.mot”
To load the data, click the button and navigate to the folder containing the data.
Load the FIRMWARE “AR5001D_PAN_401A.mot”
To load the data, click the button and navigate to the folder containing the data.
21 Click on WRITE START
Wait until the progress bar has finished to move. This takes about 30 seconds.
22 Power OFF the receiver.
23 DON’T FORGET to put the dip switches back into their default position now!
DECODER FIRMWARE UPGRADE
The receiver is OFF.
24 Set the dip switches #2 of S1 to the “ON” position.
25 Power on the receiver but only with the power switch on the back of the receiver.
26 Load the BOOT file “boot_AR2300_Decoder.mot”
To load the data, click the button and navigate to the folder containing the data.
27 Load the FIRMWARE “AR5001d_dec_312a.mot”
To load the data, click the button
and navigate to the folder containing the data.
28 Click on WRITE START
Wait until the progress bar has finished to move. This takes about 30 seconds.
29 Power OFF the receiver.
30 DON’T FORGET to put the dip switch back into its default position now!
CHECK IF THE NEW FIRMWARES HAVE BEEN CORRECTLY LOADED as instructed in the first
chapter of this instructions sheet.
