The Anthem
Anthem
Room Correction (ARCTM) kit is used in conjunction with
®
Statement processors to correct the effects of a room's reflective
surfaces on sound quality.
Before starting the procedure, note the following:
Steps to assemble:
1. Screw the telescoping stand into the base and tighten securely;
2. Screw the clip onto the stand and tighten securely;
3. Plug the USB microphone cable into the microphone;
4. Insert the microphone into the clip and point the microphone
straight up.
• Your microphone will not work with any other unit, and your microphone
calibration files will work only with your microphone. Use only the
microphone and CD that were created for your processor.
• Your home theater system must be set up according to your
Statement processor's Operating Manual.
• PC requirements are Windows XP, one serial port and one USB port
two USB ports.
• If you are using a ‘USB to serial adapter’ to connect the PC to the processor:
1. Check the manufacturer’s website for the latest driver and make
sure it is properly installed. If a Windows message pops up just
before the driver is installed saying that the driver is not Windowscertified, DO NOT USE THE ADAPTER. Some "budget" adapters are
known to load bad data into the processor, causing it to freeze.
2. The virtual port must be assigned to COM1-COM6 for installer
to run. If installer cannot locate processor, go to Start Menu /
Settings / Control Panel / System / Device Manager. Double-click
IMPORTANT! Your Statement processor must have v1.30 or later software
installed. If you purchased your ARC
TM
kit separately from your processor,
then a software upgrade for your processor is required. This software
on Ports, then double-click on the adapter. In Port Settings, if it
shows COM7 or higher, change to an available port between COM1
and COM6.
• If you are using a laptop, check your computer's power management
settings to ensure that the measurement procedure is not interrupted.
• If your Subwoofer also has Room Correction (‘EQ’) capabilities:
or

to which ‘EQ’ system to use will only come with trying

and target line closely resemble each other, then all should be well.
However, if the calculated line is still quite wavy throughout, run the

resources to focus strictly on the midrange.

be running when ARCTMstarts playing its sweep tones, otherwise ARC

Measurement procedure steps:
1. Insert the ARC
TM
software installation CD into your PC's CD or DVD
drive. Software installation instructions will appear on your screen. If
your computer does not allow a CD to auto-run, open the CD’s folder
and double-click on setup.exe.
The installation process will install several files into an Anthem folder on
your computer and create shortcuts on your Start Menu and Desktop.
Included are two files beginning with your processor's serial number.
(Examples: 123456_100002.cal. and 123456_100002Anthem.file).
NOTE: You can create a file in Standard mode and open it later in Advanced
mode to view graphs of the results and make modifications.
2. Connect the microphone to the PC via USB and wait for the PC
to complete the new hardware installation. Connect the PC to your
Statement processor's serial port via the PC's serial port or second
USB. Run AnthemRoomCorrection.exe (select from the Start Menu or
double-click the Desktop shortcut) and select either Standard or Advanced
mode. If selecting Standard mode, the program will guide you through
the steps.
IMPORTANT! Don't stand near the microphone or make extra noise
when sweep tones are playing (it would be best to keep younger or
talkative family members, and even pets, out of hearing range at this
time). The program rejects continuous background noise (i.e. fans)
but will give an error message requiring re-measurement if a sudden
noise is made.

3. Position the microphone on or near the main seat (see diagram), at ear
level when seated and pointing at the ceiling (remove cushions from
seat if necessary to attain necessary height). To adjust the height of the
telescoping stand, first loosen the large black clamp in the middle of the
stand by rotating it counterclockwise.
POSITIONING TIP! The height at which the microphone sits is critical.
As mentioned, ideally the speakers’ high-frequency drivers should be at
about the same height as the listener's ears. If the results with ARC
sound too dull or too bright, adjust the microphone height slightly and
repeat the procedure.
Five positions will be measured – the first must be the central seating
position (see diagram ). The first position is also used to set the levels in
the Statement processor’s Speaker Calibration Setup Menu. Center
Channel EQ and Room Resonance Filter menu settings are disabled
during this process and whenever ARC
TM
is in use. Set up the remaining
positions symmetrically, at the four (or more) typical listening positions
for your room. For information on the processor’s Setup Menu, refer to
the processor's Operating Manual.
Even if your room has less than five seating positions, to ensure optimal
sound measurements must be taken from five
different positions, at least
1ft. (30.5 cm) apart.
Steps 4 through 7 apply to Advanced User mode only. Standard Mode
users go straight to Step 8:
4. Click on Measure – the Procedure will pop up.
5. When measurement procedure is done, save the file and click on Targets.
The auto-detected settings are displayed but you can change them as
TM
you see fit. Once ARC
TM
on the ARC
TM
System Target menu, NOT on the Processor's crossover
is run, crossover settings must be changed only
menu. After each target change, follow steps 6 and 7, below.
NOTE: The only advice that Technical Support can provide on setting
targets is to use the auto-detected settings. Click OK.
6. When processing is done, click on Calculate.
7. When calculation is done, save the file and click on Upload.
8. You can now disconnect PC/microphone and turn ‘Room EQ’ on/off in
the processor's Source Setup Menu according to each source. By default,
it is turned on for all sources.
A Note to Custom Installers Using One Computer To Run ARC
on Multiple Systems:
Once ARC
from each ARC
TM
is installed on your PC, copy The TWO serialized files
TM
CD into the following default ARCTMdirectory:
C:\ProgramFiles\Anthem\AnthemStatement\AnthemRoomCorrection.
