The CentreCOM
Micro Ethernet T ransceiver Installation Guide
Overview
Allied Telesyn supports all common Ethernet media with Micro
Transceivers for thin coax (10BASE2), UTP (10BASE-T) and fiber
optic (10BASE-FL, FOIRL) LAN systems. The transceivers support a
single AUI that attaches directly to the AUI 15-pin connection found
on most Ethernet stations (DTEs).
Preparation
An SQE Test switch is available to provide IEEE 802.3 Ethernet SQE
Testing. Allied Telesyn ships transceivers with the SQE T est/heartbeat
disabled as the default. Before you install the product, consult your
DTE’s documentation to determine if you need to enable or disable
this function.
Installation
1. Install the AT-MX40F/ST, AT-MX50F/SM, or AT-MX55F/SC Micro
Ethernet Transceiver directly to the DTE or workstation AUI port.
If you use an AUI drop cable, make sure it is not longer than 50m
(164 ft.).
2. Select SQE Test /Heartbeat function ON or OFF depending on the
DTE requirements.
3. Disable the SQE Test function if a transceiver is connected to an
Ethernet repeater.
4. Connect the fiber optic cable connectors to the ST, SM, or SC
type of installed transceiver.
NOTE
Ensure that the Transmit connector on one side of fiber optic cable
goes to the Receive connector on the fiber optic device at the opposite
end of the link.
Maximum fiber optic links permissible are 2000m (6556 ft.)
10BASE-FL or 1000m (3278 ft.) FOIRL.
LED Explanation
The AT-MX40F/ST, AT-MX50F/SM, and the AT-MX55F/SC provide
diagnostic and status information, as shown in the following LED
table.
Table 1: LED Guide
LED Name Meaning When LED Is Lighted
PWR Indicates power is applied
TX Indicates data is transmitted
LNK Indicates link is established
RX Indicates data is received
COL Indicates a collision is detected
JBR Identifies failed logic or circuits
