The lightning flash with arrowhead
symbol, within an equilateral triangle, is
intended to alert you to the presence of
uninsulated “dangerous voltage” within the
product’s enclosure that may be of
sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of
electric shock to persons.

The exclamation point within an
equilateral triangle is intended to alert you
to the presence of important operating and
maintenance (servicing) instructions in the
literature accompanying the appliance.

1 Read Instructions – All the safety and operating instructions

should be read before the unit is operated.

2 Retain Instructions – The safety and operating instructions

should be retained for future reference.

3 Heed Warnings – All warnings on the unit and in the

operating instructions should be adhered to.

4 Follow Instructions – All operating and other instructions

should be followed.

5 Water and Moisture – The unit should not be used near

water – for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen
sink, laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming
pool, etc.

6 Carts and Stands – The unit should be used only with a cart

or stand that is recommended by the manufacturer.

6A A unit and cart combination should be moved

with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and
uneven surfaces may cause the unit and cart
combination to overturn.

7 Wall or Ceiling Mounting – The unit should be mounted to

a wall or ceiling only as recommended by the manufacturer.

8 Ventilation – The unit should be situated so that its location

or position does not interfere with its proper ventilation.
For example, the unit should not be situated on a bed, sofa,
rug, or similar surface, that may block the ventilation
openings; or placed in a built-in installation, such as a
bookcase or cabinet that may impede the flow of air

9 Heat – The unit should be situated away from heat sources

such as radiators, stoves, or other appliances that produce
heat.

10 Power Sources – The unit should be connected to a power

supply only of the type described in the operating
instructions or as marked on the unit.

11 Power-Cord Protection – Power-supply cords should be

routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched
by items placed upon or against them, paying particular
attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the
point where they exit from the unit.

12 Cleaning – The unit should be cleaned only as

recommended by the manufacturer.

13 Lightning – For added protection for this product during a

lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused
for long periods of time. Unplug it from the wall outlet and
disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent
damage to the product due to lightning and power-line
surges.

14 Object and Liquid Entry – Care should be taken so that

objects do not fall into and liquids are not spilled into the
inside of the unit.

15 Damage Requiring Service – The unit should be serviced

by qualified service personnel when:
A. The power-supply cord or the plug has been damaged;

or

B. Objects have fallen, or liquid has been spilled into the

unit; or

C. The unit has been exposed to rain; or
D. The unit does not appear to operate normally or exhibits

a marked change in performance; or

E. The unit has been dropped, or the cabinet damaged.

16 Servicing – The user should not attempt to service the unit

beyond those means described in the operating instructions.
All other servicing should be referred to qualified service
personnel.

17 Power Lines – An outdoor antenna should be located away

from power lines.

18 Grounding or Polarization – Precautions should be taken so

that the grounding or polarization is not defeated.

Note to CATV system installer:

This reminder is provided to call the CATV system
installer’s attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC that
provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in
particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be
connected to the grounding system of the building, as
close to the point of cable entry as practical.

prevent fire or electrical shock, do not place this unit
where it may get exposed to rain, water, and/or any type
of liquid.

4 Do not expose this unit to sudden temperature changes

from cold to hot, and do not locate this unit in a
environment with high humidity (i.e. a room with a
humidifier) to prevent condensation inside this unit,
which may cause an electrical shock, fire, damage to
this unit, and/or personal injury.

5 On the top of this unit, do not place:

– Other components, as they may cause damage and/or

discoloration on the surface of this unit.

connections are complete.

15 Do not attempt to modify or fix this unit. Contact

qualified YAMAHA service personnel when any service
is needed. The cabinet should never be opened for any
reasons.

16 When not planning to use this unit for long periods of

time (i.e. vacation), disconnect the AC power plug from
the wall outlet.

17 Before moving this unit, press STANDBY/ON to set

this unit in the standby mode, and disconnect the AC
power plug from the wall outlet.

18 Be sure to read the “TROUBLESHOOTING” section on

common operating errors before concluding that this
unit is faulty.

This unit is not disconnected from the AC power source
as long as it is connected to the wall outlet, even if this
unit itself is turned off. This state is called the standby
mode. In this state, this unit is designed to consume a
very small quantity of power.

1 STANDBY/ON switch

Press this switch to turn on the power to this unit. Press it again to
turn this unit into the standby mode.

Standby mode
In this state, this unit consumes a very small quantity of power
to receive infrared-signals from the remote control transmitter.

2 Display panel

Shows various information. (For details, refer to page 4.)

3 Remote control sensor
4 MEMORY (MAN’L/AUTO FM) button
5 TUNING DOWN/UP button

Used for tuning. Press the “UP” side to tune in to higher
frequencies, and press the “DOWN” side to tune in to lower
frequencies.

6 EDIT button

This button is used to exchange the places of two preset stations
with each other.

7 FM/AM button
8 PURE DIRECT switch

Press this switch so that the indicator lights up to listen to an audio
source in the purest sound. (Refer to page 11 for details.)

9 CD DIRECT AMP switch

Press this switch so that the indicator lights up to listen to a CD
source in the purest sound. (Refer to page 11 for details.)

0 A/B/C/D/E button

Press this button to select a desired group (A–E) of preset stations.

q PHONES jack
w SPEAKERS A B switches

Set the switch A or B (or both A and B) for the speaker system
(connected to this unit) you will use.

e PRESET STATIONS buttons

Select a preset station number (1 to 8).

r Tone controls

BASS

Used to increase or decrease the low frequency response. The 0
position produces flat response.

TREBLE

Used to increase or decrease the high frequency response. The 0
position produces flat response.

t BALANCE control

Adjusts the balance of the output volume to the left and right
speakers.

y Continuously variable LOUDNESS control

Used to compensate for the human ears’ loss of sensitivity to high
and low-frequency ranges at low volume.

u TUNING MODE (AUTO/MAN’L MONO) button
i REC OUT/ZONE 2 selector

Used to select an input source and supply that source directly to the
REC output terminals on the rear panel, independently of the
setting of the INPUT selector. This function allows you to record
the selected source while listening to another source.

o INPUT selector

Selects the input source that you want to listen to (and watch).

p VOLUME control

Used to raise or lower the volume level.

REMOTE CONTROL TRANSMITTER

The remote control transmitter provided with this unit is designed to control all the most commonly used functions of this
unit. If the CD player and tape deck connected to this unit are YAMAHA components designed for remote control
compatibility, this remote control transmitter will also control various functions of each component.

■ For Control of This Unit

1 POWER

Press this key to turn on this unit or turn it into the standby mode.

Standby mode
In this state, this unit consumes a very small quantity of power
to receive infrared-signals from the remote control.

2 Tuner keys

Control tuner.

+: Selects higher preset station number.
–: Selects lower preset station number.
A/B/C/D/E: Selects the group (A – E) of preset station numbers.

3 Input selector keys

Press a key to select the input source.

4 SLEEP key

Sets the sleep timer.

5 SPEAKERS A B

Turn on or off the set of main speakers connected to the A and/or B
terminals on the rear panel.

6 VOLUME + –

Press these keys to increase or decrease the volume.

■ For Control of Other Component

The functions of the keys to control other YAMAHA components
are the same as the corresponding keys on those components. Refer
to those components’ instruction manuals for details.

1 Tape deck keys

These keys control tape decks.
* DIR A, B and DECK A/B apply only to double cassette tape

decks.

* Pressing DIR A will reverse the tape direction on a single

cassette tape deck with the automatic reverse function.

2 CD player keys

These keys control compact disc players.
* DISC SKIP is used for disc changers only.

If you find that the remote control transmitter must be used
closer to the main unit, the batteries are weak. Replace both
batteries with new ones.

Notes

• Use only AA, R6, UM-3 batteries for replacement.

• Be sure the polarities are correct. (See the illustration inside the

battery compartment.)

• Remove the batteries if the remote control transmitter will not be

used for an extended period of time.

• If batteries leak, dispose of them immediately. Avoid touching

the leaked material or letting it come in contact with clothing,
etc. Clean the battery compartment thoroughly before installing
new batteries.

• There should be no large obstacles between the remote control
transmitter and the main unit.

• If the remote control sensor is directly illuminated by strong
lighting (especially an inverter type of fluorescent lamp etc.), it
might cause the remote control transmitter not to work correctly.
In this case, reposition the main unit to avoid direct lighting.

Lights up when this unit is in the automatic tuning mode.

Lights up when turned in to a station.

Lights up when an FM stereo broadcast with sufficient signal
strength is received.

Lights up when CD DIRECT is on.

6 SPEAKERS A B indicator

Lights up according to which set of main speakers is selected. Both
indicators light up when both sets of speakers are selected.

7 SLEEP indicator

Lights up while the built-in SLEEP timer is functioning.

8 PURE DIRECT

Lights up when PURE DIRECT is on.

9 MEMO indicator

When the MEMORY button is pressed, this indicator flashes for
about 5 seconds. While this indicator is flashing, the displayed
station can be programmed to the memory by using the A/B/C/D/E
button and the PRESET STATIONS buttons.

When making connections between this unit and other components, be sure all connections are made correctly, that is to say
L (left) to L, R (right) to R, “+” to “+” and “–” to “–”. Also, refer to the owner’s manual for each component to be connected
to this unit.
* If you have YAMAHA components numbered as !, #, $, etc. on the rear panel, connections can be made easily only by

connecting the output (or input) terminals of each component to the same-numbered terminals of this unit.

CONNECTIONS

CONNECTING SPEAKERS

Connect the SPEAKERS terminals to your speakers with
wire of the proper gauge (cut as short as possible). If the
connections are faulty, no sound will be heard from the
speakers. Make sure that the polarity of the speaker wires is
correct, that is, + and – markings are observed. If these
wires are reversed, the sound will be unnatural and will lack
bass.

Do not let the bare speaker wires touch each other or the
metal parts of this unit as this could damage this unit
and/or speakers.

How to Connect:

■ IMPEDANCE SELECTOR switch

WARNING
Do not change the IMPEDANCE SELECTOR

switch setting while the power to this unit is on,
otherwise this unit may be damaged.

If this unit fails to turn on when the POWER switch is
pressed:
The IMPEDANCE SELECTOR switch may not be set
to either end. If so, set the switch to either end when this
unit’s power supply is completely cut off.

Notes

• One or two speaker systems can be connected to this unit. If you
connect only one speaker system, connect it to either the
SPEAKERS A or B terminals.

• Use speakers with the specified impedance shown on the rear of
this unit.

• Banana Plug connections are also possible. Simply insert the
Banana Plug connector into the corresponding terminal.

<U.S.A. and Australia models>

Select the position whose requirements your speaker
system meets.

(Left position)

If you use one pair of speakers, the impedance of each
speaker must be 4Ω or higher.
If you use two pairs of speakers, the impedance of each
speaker must be 8Ω or higher.

(Right position)

<U.S.A. and Australia models>

If you use one pair of speakers, the impedance of each
speaker must be 6Ω or higher.
If you use two pairs of speakers, the impedance of each
speaker must be 12Ω or higher.

<Canada model only>

The impedance of each speaker must be 6Ω or higher.

Connecting the ground wire of the turntable to the GND
terminal will normally minimize hum, but in some cases
better results may be obtained with the ground wire
disconnected.

■ PRE OUT/MAIN IN terminals

Removing the jumper pins from the PRE OUT/MAIN IN
terminals enables this unit to operate separately as a control
amplifier and a power amplifier. These terminals are used
for connecting a signal-processing system such as a graphic
equalizer or a surround-sound processor to this unit.
If such an external unit is connected to these terminals, the
VOLUME control of this unit can be used for adjusting the
overall sound level.

To connect an external unit, first remove the jumper pins
from the PRE OUT/MAIN IN terminals, and then connect
the input terminals of that unit to the PRE OUT terminals
or its output terminals to the MAIN IN terminals. For
details, refer to the owner’s manual included with the unit to
be connected.

Use these to connect the power cords from your A/V
components to this unit.
The power to the SWITCHED outlets is controlled by this
unit’s STANDBY/ON switch or the provided remote
control transmitter’s POWER key. These outlets will supply
power to any component whenever this unit is turned on.
The maximum power (total power consumption of
components) that can be connected to the SWITCHED AC
OUTLET(S) is 100 watts.

■ REMOTE CONTROL (IN, OUT)

These terminals are used for custom installation system.
When this unit is connected to the components for custom
installation system, you can operate this unit with the
system remote control.
Connect the REMOTE CONTROL IN terminal of this unit
to the output terminal of the central controller for custom
installation system.
By connecting the REMOTE CONTROL OUT terminal of
this unit to the REMOTE CONTROL IN terminal of the
other component, you can also operate the component with
the system remote control. In this way, up to 6 components
can be connected in series.

Notes

• When you do not use the PRE OUT/MAIN IN terminals, never

remove the jumper pins from these terminals. If removed, no
sound will be outputted from this unit.

• When you use this unit with an external unit connected to the

PRE OUT and MAIN IN terminals, make sure that the CD
DIRECT AMP switch and the PURE DIRECT switch on the

front panel are turned off.

• When you use this unit as a power amplifier, connect the output

terminals of an external control amplifier etc. to this unit’s MAIN
IN terminals. In this case, this unit’s controls will not function
except the PHONES jack and the SPEAKERS switches. Use
the controls on the external control amplifier to make volume
adjustment etc.

ZONE 2 CONNECTIONS

You can make up a multi-room audio-video system with this unit. This feature enables you to set this unit to reproduce
separate input sources in the main room and second room (Zone 2) with the supplied remote control in the second room.

To use the multi-room functions of this unit, you need the following additional equipment:

• An infrared signal receiver in the second room

• An infrared emitter in the main room

This emitter transmits the infrared signals from the remote control in the second room to the main room
(for example, to a CD player or LD player).

• An amplifier and speakers for the second room

• A video monitor for the second room

• Since there are so many ways to connect and use this
unit in a multi-room installation, we recommend that
you consult with the nearest authorized YAMAHA
dealer or service center for the Zone 2 connections

* The AM loop antenna should be placed apart from the main unit. The antenna may be hung on a wall.
* The AM loop antenna should be kept connected, even if an outdoor AM antenna is connected to this unit.

GND terminal

For maximum safety and minimum interference, connect
the GND terminal to a good earth ground, which is a metal
stake driven into moist earth.

Note

A poperly installed outdoor antenna provides clearer reception than
an indoor one. If you experience poor reception quality, an outdoor
antenna may improve the quality. Consult the nearest authorized
YAMAHA dealer or service center about the outdoor antennas.

■ Using the CD DIRECT AMP switch

You can enjoy the purest possible CD sound from your CD
player by setting this switch so that the indicator
illuminates. By doing so, CD’s input signals are sent to the
built-in special amplifier for CD directly bypassing the

INPUT selector, BASS, TREBLE, B ALANCE and
LOUDNESS controls, and then sent to the power amplifier.

This signal routing reproduces the purest CD sound
eliminating any alterations to the CD signals.

■ Selecting the SPEAKER system

Because one or two speaker systems can be connected to
this unit, the SPEAKERS switches allow you to select
speaker system A or B, or both at once.

■ Adjusting the continuously variable

LOUDNESS control

This control provides compensation for the human ears’ loss
of sensitivity to high and low-frequency ranges at low

SLEEP TIMER

The SLEEP timer can be used to automatically set this unit
in the standby mode. This timer is useful when you are
going to sleep while enjoying a broadcast or other desired
input source. The SLEEP timer can only be set with the
remote control.

■ Setting the SLEEP Timer

1 Play a source you want to enjoy when you are

going to sleep.

2 Press the SLEEP key to set the sleep timer (60

minutes). The “SLEEP” indicator soon lights up on
the display.
Press the SLEEP key again to cancel the sleep
timer. The “SLEEP” indicator goes off from the
display.

Notes

• If you want to enjoy another source while recording, select it

with the INPUT selector.

• VOLUME, BASS, TREBLE, BALANCE, LOUDNESS
controls, CD DIRECT AMP switch and PURE DIRECT switch
settings have no effect on the material being recorded.

Memory back-up

The memory back-up circuit prevents the programmed data
from being lost even if this unit is turned into the standby
mode or the power plug is disconnected from the AC outlet
or the power is cut due to temporary power failure. If,
however, the power is cut for more than one week, the
memory may be erased. If so, it can be re-programmed by
simply following the MANUAL/AUTOMATIC PRESET
TUNING steps.

You can make use of an automatic preset tuning function for FM stations. With this function, this unit performs automatic

Notes

• You can replace a preset station by another FM or AM station
manually by simply following the procedure of the section “To

• If the number of received stations is not enough to be stored up
to E8, the search is finished automatically after searching all
frequencies.

• With this function, only FM stations with sufficient signal
strength are stored automatically. If the station you want to
program is weak in signal strength, tune to it in monaural
manually and program it by following the procedure of the
section “To store stations” on page 14.

• For presets, the setting of the reception mode (stereo or
monaural) is stored along with the station frequency.

EXCHANGING PRESET STATIONS

You can exchange the places of two preset stations with
each other as shown below.

method of “To recall a preset station” on page 14).

The automatic preset tuning begins from the frequency
currently displayed. Received stations are programmed
to A1, A2 ... A8 sequentially.
* If more than 8 stations are received, they are also

programmed to the preset station numbers of other
groups (B, C, D and E) in that order.

If you want to store the first station received by the
automatic preset tuning to a desired preset station
number;

If, for example, you want to store the first received station to
C5, select “C5” by using the A/B/C/D/E button and the
PRESET STATIONS buttons after pressing the MEMORY
button in step 2. Then press the TUNING button. The first
received station is stored to C5, and next stations to C6, C7
... sequentially.
If stations are stored up to E8, the automatic preset tuning is
finished automatically.

Flashes.

3 Recall the preset station on A5 by following the

same method as in step 1.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If the unit fails to operate normally, check the following points to determine whether the fault can be corrected by the simple
measures suggested. If it cannot be corrected, or if the fault is not listed in the PROBLEM column, disconnect the power cord
and contact your authorized YAMAHA dealer or service center for help.

PROBLEM

Amplifier

The unit fails to turn on when the STANDBY/
ON switch is pressed.

It happens that this unit does not work
normally.

No sound or no picture.

The sound suddenly goes off.

Only one side speaker outputs the sound.

Sound “hums”.

The volume level is low while playing a record.

The volume level cannot be increased, or sound
is distorted.

Sound level is low.
The INPUT selector will not function though it

is turned.
Using the BASS, TREBLE, BALANCE and

LOUDNESS controls does not affect the tone.

FM

FM stereo reception is noisy.

There is distortion and clear reception cannot be
obtained even with a good FM antenna.

A desired station cannot be tuned in with the
automatic tuning method.

Previously preset stations can no longer be
tuned in.

AM

A desired station cannot be tuned in with the
automatic tuning method.

There are continuous crackling and hissing
noises.

There are buzzing and whining noises (especially
in the evening).

CAUSE

Power cord is not plugged in or is not completely
inserted.

There is an influence of strong external noise
(lightning, excessive static electricity, etc.) or a
misoperation on this unit while using this unit.

Incorrect output cord connections.

Appropriate input source is not selected.

The SPEAKERS switches are not set properly.

Speaker connections are not secure.
The protection circuit has been activated because of

short circuit etc.

The SLEEP timer has functioned.
Incorrect setting of the BALANCE control.
Incorrect cord connections.

Incorrect cord connections.

No connection from the turntable to the GND
terminal.

The record is being played on a turntable with an
MC cartridge.

The component connected to the REC or ZONE 2
output terminals of this unit is turned off.

The LOUDNESS control is functioning.
The CD DIRECT AMP switch is ON.

The CD DIRECT AMP or PURE DIRECT switch
is ON.

Because of the characteristics of FM stereo
broadcasts, this is limited to cases where the
transmitter is too far away or the antenna input is
poor.

There is multipath interference.

The station is too weak.

This unit has been unplugged for a long period.

Weak signal or loose antenna connections.

Noises result from ligtning, fluorescent lamps,
motors, thermostats and other electrical equipment.

A television set is being used nearby.

REMEDY

Firmly plug in the power cord.

Turn this unit into the standby mode and disconnect
the AC power cord from the AC outlet. After about
30 seconds pass, connect the power and operate this
unit again.

Connect the cords properly. If the problem persists,
the cords may be defective.

Select an appropriate input source with the INPUT
selector.

Set the SPEAKERS switch which corresponds to
the speakers to be used to the ON position.

Secure the connections.
Check the IMPEDANCE SELECTOR switch is set

to the appropriate position and then turn the unit
back on.

Check the speaker wires are not touching each
other and then turn the unit back on.

Turn on the power, and play the source again.
Adjust it to the appropriate position.
Connect the cords properly. If the problem persists,

the cords may be defective.
Firmly connect the audio plugs. If the problem

persists, the cords may be defective.
Make the GND connection between the turntable

and this unit.
The player should be connected to the unit through

the MC head amplifier.
Turn the power to the component on.

Set the LOUDNESS control to the 0 position.
Switch off the CD DIRECT AMP switch.

The CD DIRECT AMP and PURE DIRECT
switches must be switched OFF to use those
controls.

Check the antenna connections.
Try using a high quality directional FM antenna.

Set the TUNING MODE button to the manual
tuning mode.

Adjust antenna placement to eliminate multipath
interference.

Use the manual tuning method.
Use a high quality directional FM antenna.
Repeat the presetting procedure.

Tighten the AM loop antenna connections and
rotate it for best reception.

Use the manual tuning method.
Use an outdoor antenna and a ground wire. This

will help somewhat but it is difficult to eliminate all
the noises.

Relocate this unit away from the TV.

Remote control transmitter

The remote control transmitter does not work.

Others

The sound is degraded when listening with the
headphones connected to the compact disc
player or cassette deck that is connected with
this unit.

1 Lire attentivement ce manuel pour obtenir le meilleur

■ Mise en place des piles

Si lorsque l’on utilise la télécommande il est nécessaire de
la rapprocher de l’appareil, les piles sont sans doute
déchargées. Dans ce cas, remplacer les deux piles par des
neuves.

Remarques

• N’utiliser que des piles AA, R6, UM-3 pour le remplacement des
piles.

• Veiller à ce que les polarités soient respectées. (Voir l’illustration
se trouvant dans le compartiment des piles.)

• Lorsque l’on n’utilise pas la télécommande pendant un certain
temps, retirer les piles de la télécommande.

• Si les piles fuient, les jeter immédiatement. Ne pas toucher
l’électrolyte et veiller à ce qu’il n’entre pas en contact avec des
vêtements, etc. Nettoyer soigneusement le compartiment des
piles avant de mettre en place des piles neuves.

RACCORDEMENT DES ENCEINTES

Raccorder les bornes SPEAKERS aux enceintes avec des
câbles de section adéquate et aussi courts que possible. Si
les branchements sont mal faits, aucun son ne sera entendu
aux enceintes. Respecter la polarité des câbles de raccord
(repères + et –). Si les polarités sont inversées, le son perçu
manquera de naturel et de profondeur de basses.

Veiller à ce que les portions dénudées des câbles ne se
touchent pas ou n’entrent pas en contact avec les pièces
métalliques de cet appareil, car cela pourrait
endommager l’appareil et/ou les enceintes.

Remarques

• Une ou deux paires d’enceintes peuvent être branchées à cet

■ Borne de mise à la terre (GND)

(Pour le tourne-disque)

En branchant le câble de mise à la terre d’un tourne-disque à
la borne de mise à la terre (GND), on obtient en général une
réduction du ronflement. Cependant, dans certains cas, les
résultats sont meilleurs si le câble de mise à la terre reste
débranché.

■ Bornes PRE OUT/MAIN IN

En retirant les cavaliers, cet appareil peut fonctionner
indépendamment en tant qu’amplificateur de contrôle et
amplificateur de puissance. Ces bornes servent à connecter
un système de traitement des signaux tel qu’un égaliseur ou
un processeur sonore ambiophonique à cet appareil.
Si un tel appareil extérieur est connecté entre ces bornes, il
est possible d’utiliser la commande VOLUME de cet
appareil pour effectuer un réglage global du niveau sonore.

Pour connecter un tel appareil extérieur, retirez les cavaliers
des bornes PRE OUT/MAIN IN et raccordez les bornes
d’entrée de l’appareil aux bornes PRE OUT ou les bornes
de sortie aux bornes MAIN IN. Pour plus de détails,
reportez-vous au mode d’emploi de l’appareil devant être
connecté.

Brancher à ces prises les cordons d’alimentation des
appareils qui composent la chaîne Hi Fi.
L’alimentation aux prises commutées SWITCHED est
contrôlée par l’interrupteur STANDBY/ON de cet appareil
ou les touche POWER de la télécommande fournie. En
d’autres termes, lorsque l’appareil est mis sous tension, tous
les appareils qui sont raccordés à ces prises seront aussi
sous tension.
La puissance totale maximum (puissance cumulée de tous
les appareils branchés) autorisée est de 100 watts au(x)
prise(s) commutée(s) SWITCHED.

■ Bornes de télécommande REMOTE

CONTROL (IN, OUT)

Ces bornes sont utilisées pour le système d’installation
spéciale. Lorsque cet appareil est raccordé aux composants
du système d’installation spéciale, il est possible de faire
fonctionner l’appareil au moyen de la télécommande.
Raccorder la borne REMOTE CONTROL IN de cet
appareil à la borne de sortie du contrôleur centrale pour le
système d’installation personnalisée.
En raccordant la borne REMOTE CONTROL OUT de cet
appareil à la borne REMOTE CONTROL IN de l’autre
appareil, il est aussi possible de le faire fonctionner au
moyen de la télécommande. De cette façon, il est possible
de raccorder en série 6 composants au maximum.

Remarques

• Si l’on n’utilise pas les bornes PRE OUT/MAIN IN, ne jamais

retirer les cavaliers de ces bornes. Si on les retire, aucun son ne
sera émis.

• Si l’on utilise cet appareil avec un appareil extérieur raccordé

entre les bornes PRE OUT et MAIN IN, veiller à ce que
l’interrupteur CD DIRECT AMP et l’interrupteur PURE
DIRECT du panneau avant soient placés sur la position d’arrêt.

• Si l’on utilise cet appareil comme amplificateur, raccorder les
bornes de sortie d’un amplificateur de contrôle externe, etc. aux
bornes MAIN IN de cet appareil. Dans ce cas, les commandes de
l’appareil ne fonctionneront pas, à l’exception de la prise
PHONES et des interrupteurs SPEAKERS. Utiliser les
commandes de l’amplificateur de contrôle extérieur pour faire le
réglage du volume, etc.

RACCORDEMENTS DE ZONE 2

Il est possible d’utiliser cet appareil dans une configuration de chaîne audiovisuelle multi-salle. La fonction Zone 2 permet de
restituer des sources d’entrée séparées dans la salle principale et dans la seconde salle (Zone 2) en utilisant la télécommande
fournie dans la seconde salle.

Pour utiliser les fonctions multi-salle de cet appareil, le matériel supplémentaire suivant est nécessaire :

• un récepteur de signal infrarouge dans la seconde salle

• un émetteur infrarouge dans la salle principale
Cet émetteur émet les signaux infrarouge de la télécommande de la seconde salle vers la salle principale (vers un lecteur
de compact disque ou un lecteur de laserdisc, par exemple)

• un amplificateur et des enceintes dans la seconde salle

• un moniteur vidéo dans la seconde salle

• Il existe de nombreuses manières de raccorder et
d’utiliser cet appareil dans une installation multi­salle. Pour les raccordements de zone 2 les mieux

Borne de mise à la terre (GND)

Pour une sécurité maximale et une interférence minimale,
raccorder la borne GND à une bonne mise à la terre. Une
bonne prise de terre se fait par un piquet de métal planté
dans une terre humide.

Remarque

Une antenne extérieure correctement installée offre une meilleure
réception qu’une antenne intérieure. Si la réception laisse à désirer,
utiliser une antenne extérieure peut l’améliorer. Pour les antennes
extérieures, consulter le revendeur ou service après-vente officiel
YAMAHA le plus proche.

■ Utilisation de l’interrupteur CD

DIRECT AMP

Il est possible d’obtenir le son CD le plus fidèle possible du
lecteur de disque compact en réglant cet interrupteur de
manière que le témoin s’allume. En ce faisant, les signaux
d’entrée du disque compact sont envoyés directement à
l’amplificateur spécial pour disque compact en contournant
le sélecteur INPUT, les commandes BASS, TREBLE,
BALANCE et LOUDNESS, et sont ensuite envoyés à
l’amplificateur. Ce mode d’acheminement des signaux
permet d’obtenir une grande fidélité du son CD en éliminant
toutes les altérations des signaux de disque compact.

Cet appareil peut mémoriser la fréquence des stations d’émission sélectionnée par syntonisation. Grâce à cette fonction, il

Mémoire de maintien

Le circuit de mémoire de maintien évite que les
informations programmées ne soient perdues, si par
exemple on met cet appareil en mode d’attente, ou si la
fiche d’alimentation est retirée de la prise CA, ou encore si
le courant est coupé à cause d’une panne de courant.
Si l’alimentation est coupée pendant plus d’une semaine, la
mémoire peut être effacée. Dans ce cas, elle peut être
reprogrammée en suivant le processus de
SYNTONISATION PREREGLEE MANUAL/
AUTOMATIQUE.

programmée sur A1.

* Programmer de la même manière les stations

désirées sur A2, A3 ... A8.

* De la même manière, il est possible de programmer

SYNTONISATION

SYNTONISATION PREREGLEE AUTOMATIQUE

Il est aussi possible d’utiliser la fonction de syntonisation préréglée automatique pour les stations FM seulement. Grâce à
cette fonction, l’appareil peut effectuer la syntonisation automatique et la mémorisation ordonnée des stations FM émettant
des signaux puissants. Jusqu’à 40 stations peuvent être mémorisées automatiquement sur les touches de préréglage de station
en suivant une méthode similaire à celle indiquée à la page 14 pour la syntonisation préréglée manuelle.

Lorsque la syntonisation préréglée automatique est
terminée;

L’affichage donne la fréquence de la dernière station
préréglée. Vérifier la nature et le nombre de stations
préréglées en suivant la procédure décrite à la section “Pour
rappeler une station préréglée” à la page 14.

• Il est possible de remplacer manuellement une station préréglée
par une autre station FM ou AM en suivant simplement la
procédure décrite à la section “Mémorisation des stations” à la
page 14.

• Si le nombre de stations reçues ne suffit pas à remplir tous les
numéros de stations préréglées jusqu’à E8, la recherche se
terminera après avoir recherché toutes les fréquences de stations.

• Avec cette fonction, seules les stations FM émettant un signal
suffisamment puissant peuvent être mémorisées
automatiquement. Si la station que l’on veut programmer émet
un signal faible, il faut la syntoniser manuellement en mono et la
programmer en suivant la procédure décrite à la section
“Mémorisation des stations” à la page 14.

• Le mode de réception (mono ou stéréo) est programmé en même
temps que la fréquence de la station.

PERMUTATION DE STATIONS PREREGLEES

Pour syntoniser des fréquences plus hautes, appuyer
une fois sur le côté droit.
Pour syntoniser des fréquences plus basses, appuyer
une fois sur le côté gauche.
* Un instant après, si l’on n’appuie pas sur la touche

TUNING, la syntonisation préréglée automatique
commence automatiquement vers les fréquences plus

hautes.
La syntonisation préréglée automatique commence à
partir de la fréquence actuellement affichée. Les
stations reçues sont programmées dans l’ordre sur A1,

A2....A8.

* Si plus de 8 stations sont reçues, elles sont aussi

programmées sur les numéros de stations préréglées

des autres groupes (B, C, D et E) dans cet ordre.

Pour programmer la première station reçue par
syntonisation préréglée automatique sur le numéro de
station préréglée voulu;

Si l’on veut par exemple programmer la première station
reçue sur C5, sélectionner “C5” au moyen de la touche A/B/
C/D/E et des touches PRESET STATIONS après avoir
appuyé sur la touche MEMORY à l’étape 2. Appuyer
ensuite sur la touche TUNING. La première station reçue est
programmée sur C5, et les stations suivantes sont
programmées dans l’ordre sur C6, C7...
Lorsque la programmation des stations a été accomplie sur
tous les numéros jusqu’à E8, la syntonisation préréglée
automatique s’arrête automatiquement.

Il est possible de permuter les touches de mémorisation de
deux stations préréglées de la manière indiquée ci-dessous.

Exemple)

Pour permuter la station préréglée de E1 à A5.

1 Rappeler la station préréglée sur E1 (en suivant la

méthode décrite à la section “Pour rappeler une
station préréglée” à la page 14).

EN CAS DE DIFFICULTE

Si l’appareil ne fonctionne pas correctement, avant de conclure qu’il est en panne, le vérifier selon la liste suivante de
problèmes possibles. Cette liste donne des détails sur les remèdes que vous pouvez appliquer vous-même sans avoir à appeler
un spécialiste. Si vous avez quelque doute ou question, consulter votre revendeur officiel YAMAHA le plus proche.

PROBLÈM

Amplificateur

L’appareil ne se met pas sous tension lorsqu’on
appuie sur l’interrupteur STANDBY/ON.

Cet appareil ne fonctionne pas normalement.

Pas de son ou pas d’image.

Le son se coupe soudainement.

Les sons ne sont émis aux enceintes que d’un
seul côté.

Le son “bourdonne”.

Le niveau de volume est bas à la lecture d’un
disque.

Il est impossible d’augmenter le niveau de
volume, ou il y a une distorsion du son.

Le volume sonore est faible.

Il est impossible de changer la source d’entrée,
bien que le sélecteur INPUT soit activé.

Les commandes BASS, TREBLE, BALANCE et
LOUDNESS ne fonctionnent pas.

FM

La réception FM stéréo est parasitée.

Il y a de la distorsion et une réception claire ne
peut pas être obtenue, même avec une bonne
antenne FM.

Une station voulue ne peut pas être syntonisée
avec la méthode de syntonisation automatique.

Les stations préréglées préalablement ne
peuvent plus être syntonisées.

Le cordon d’alimentation n’est pas branché ou ne
l’est pas complètement.

Il y a interférence de bruits extérieurs puissants
(orage, électricité statique excessive, etc.) ou on a
effectué une opération erronée en utilisant cet
appareil.

Mauvais raccordement des câbles de sortie.

Sélection d’entrée incorrecte.

Les interrupteurs SPEAKERS ne sont pas
correctement réglés.

Les connexions des enceintes ne sont pas correctes.
Le circuit de protection s’est déclenché dû à un

court-circuit, etc.

La minuterie SLEEP a été activée.
La commande BALANCE n’est pas correctement

réglée.
Mauvais raccordement des câbles.

Mauvais raccordement des câbles.

Le tourne-disque n’est pas raccordé à une prise de
mise à la terre.

Le disque est lu sur un tourne-disque avec cellule à
aimant mobile.

L’appareil branché aux bornes de sortie REC ou
ZONE 2 de cet appareil est hors tension.

La fonction de compensation physiologique
(LOUDNESS) est activée.

L’interrupteur CD DIRECT AMP est placé sur la
position “ON”.

L’interrupteur CD DIRECT AMP ou PURE
DIRECT est réglé sur la position “ON”.

A cause des caractéristiques des émissions FM
stéréo, ceci est limité aux cas où l’émetteur est
éloigné ou quand l’entrée d’antenne est faible.

Il y a des interférences fantômes.

La station est trop faible.

Cet appareil a été débranché pendant longtemps.

CAUSE

SOLUTION

Bien brancher le cordon d’alimentation.

Faire passer cet appareil au mode d’attente et
débrancher le cordon d’alimentation de la prise
secteur. Après environ trente secondes, rétablir
l’alimentation et utiliser à nouveau cet appareil.

Raccorder correctement les câbles. Si le problème
persiste, les câbles sont peut-être en mauvais état.

Sélectionner une source d’entrée correcte au moyen
du sélecteur INPUT.

Régler l’interrupteur SPEAKERS correspondant
aux enceintes que l’on utilise sur la position “ON”.

Effectuer des connexions correctes.
Vérifier si le sélecteur d’impédance (IMPEDANCE

SELECTOR) se trouve sur la position appropriée,
puis rallumer l’appareil.

Vérifier si les fils d’enceinte ne sont pas en contact
entre eux, puis rallumer l’appareil.

Rallumer l’appareil et lire à nouveau la source.
Régler correctement la commande.

Raccorder correctement les câbles. Si le probléme
persiste, les câbles sont peut-être en mauvais état.

Raccorder fermement les prises audio. Si le problème
persiste, le câble est peut-être en mauvais état.

Faire le branchement de mise à la terre entre le
tourne-disque et cet appareil.

Raccorder le tourne-disque à l’appareil par le biais
de l’amplificateur à tête à aimant mobile.

Mettre l’appareil concerné sous tension.

Placer la commande LOUDNESS sur la position 0
(réponse plate).

Mettre l’interrupteur CD DIRECT AMP sur la
position “OFF”.

Les interrupteurs CD DIRECT AMP et PURE
DIRECT doivent être placés sur la position “OFF”
pour pouvoir utiliser ces commandes.

Vérifier les raccordements de l’antenne.
Essayer d’utiliser une antenne FM à éléments
multiples.

Régler la touche TUNING MODE sur le mode de
syntonisation manuelle.

Ajuster l’emplacement de l’antenne pour éliminer
les interférences fantômes.

Utiliser la méthode de syntonisation manuelle.
Utiliser une antenne FM directionnelle de bonne

qualité.
Recommencer le préréglage.

Une station voulue ne peut pas être syntonisée
avec la méthode de syntonisation automatique.

Il y a des craquements continus et des bruits de
sifflement.

Il y a des bruits de ronflements et d’ondes (en
particulier le soir).

Télécommande

La télécommande ne fonctionne pas.

Autres

Les sons se dégradent lorsqu’on écoute avec un
casque relié à un lecteur de disque compact ou à
une platine à cassette raccordés à cet appareil.

CARACTERISTIQUES TECHNIQUES

Signal faible ou raccordements lâches de l’antenne.

Ce sont des bruits provenant d’éclairages, de
lampes fluorescentes, de moteurs, de thermostats et
d’autres équipements électriques.

Un téléviseur est utilisé près de l’appareil.

Le détecteur de télécommande de l’appareil
principal est exposé à la lumière directe du soleil (ou
d’une lampe fluorescente de type inverseur, etc.).

Les piles de cette télécommande sont trop faibles.

Cet appareil est en mode d’attente.

Resserrer les raccordements du cadre-antenne AM
et le faire tourner de façon à obtenir la meilleure
réception possible.

Utiliser la méthode de syntonisation manuelle.
Utiliser une antenne extérieure et un câble de mise

à la terre. Ceci aidera mais il est difficile d’éliminer
tout le bruit.

Eloigner cet appareil du téléviseur.

Changer la position de l’appareil principal.

Remplacer les piles.

Mettre cet appareil sous tension.
