1 General Information
These additional operating instructions are applicable only in conjunction with the Installation and Operating Instructions. They contain supplementary information on the specific requirements for use of the appliances in line with LCIE 03 ATEX 6202 X in areas
where there is a risk of explosion, in accordance with European Council Directive 94/9/EC
of 23 March 1994.
1.1 Uses
These submersible pumps are suitable for use in gaseous atmospheres requiring a group II,
category 2G appliance (use in zones 1 and 2), gas group IIB and temperature category T4.
1.2 Product data
1.2.1 Construction model
The explosion protection model provided falls into the fire protection category “flameproof
enclosure”.
The following norms are upheld in particular:
Electrical materials for areas where there is a risk of explosion:
EN50014, General provisions
EN50018, flameproof enclosure “d”
Identification symbol: Ex II 2 G EEx d IIBT4
1.2.2 Operation parameters
The electrical parameters for the operation of the submersible pumps must be taken from
the rating plate. They are electrical values to be observed for new hydraulics when pumping
clear water and which can be operated to S1 as a maximum. The thermal protective switch
(WSK) will switch the pump unit off should these values be exceeded. To prevent misuse of
this function as a switch, ensure the submersible pump is operated below the switch-off
point at all times. We recommend that the operating current should be a maximum of 90%
of the nominal current (for nominal voltage decrease by the corresponding amount for high
voltage and under voltage). We also advise the operator to ensure when commissioning the
pump and at regular intervals thereafter that the pump is not overloaded.
A second, self-adhesive rating plate is enclosed in the documentation. We recommend affixing this to the switching box, inside the Installation and Operation Instructions or in any
other suitable area to ensure you have the necessary operating data to hand at all times.
2 Safety
These instructions contain additional information which must be observed when installing
and operating the pump. These operating instructions must therefore be read by the installer and the responsible operator before assembly and commissioning. In addition to the
general safety instructions laid down here in the Safety section, the special safety instructions laid down in the following sections are also to be observed. The general indications
provided in the Operating Instructions must also be observed.

2.2Staff training
The personnel installing the pump must have the appropriate qualifications for this work.
2.3 Risks incurred by failure to comply with the safety precautions
Failure to comply with the safety precautions could result in personal injury or damage to the
pump or installation. Failure to comply with the safety precautions could also invalidate any
claim for damages.
In particular, failure to comply may lead to problems such as:
Failure of important pump or installation functions with reference to the risk of explosion.
2.4 Safety precautions for the operator
The operator is responsible for ensuring the pumps are designed, installed and operated in
accordance with the relevant national provisions. In cooperation with the competent authorities, the operator must mark off all ex-areas and ensure suitable equipment is in use.
This information must then be recorded in the “Explosion Protection Document”.
2.5 Safety information for inspection and assembly
The operator is responsible for ensuring that inspection and assembly are carried out by authorized and qualified personnel who have studied the operating instructions closely. All appliances must be disconnected from the mains before any service and repair work. Appliances must not be switched on in the ex-area. Special repairs must only be carried out by our
customer service team or other WILO approved units. In the ex-area, never wipe plastic
parts using cloths or similar materials as this creates a risk of electro-static build-up.
English
The pump must be switched off for all repair work and secured against unauthorised operation.
In order to avoid infection, maintenance work should only be carried out using
suitable protective gloves.
For reasons of safety, maintenance work should only be carried out in the presence of another person and never in the ex-area.
2.6 Unauthorised modification and manufacture of spare parts
Alterations to the pump or installation may only be carried out with the manufacturer's consent. The use of original spare parts and accessories authorised by the manufacturer will ensure safety. The use of any other parts may invalidate claims invoking the liability of the
manufacturer for any consequences.
2.7 Unauthorised operating methods
The operating safety of the pump or installation supplied can only be guaranteed if it is used
in accordance with paragraph 1 of the operating instructions. All values must neither exceed
nor fall below the limit values given in the catalogue or data sheet as this could lead, for
example, to excess temperature.
3 Operation in ex-areas
The submersible pump is normally immersed in the flow medium. The pump is driven by an
encased asynchronous motor which is impermeable to pressurised water. In order to carry
away the motor heat it is necessary to keep it submerged continuously.
In addition to the motor protection switch, the motor must also be directly thermally
monitored by the temperature sensor (WSK) on the stator coil.

English
The water level may only be reduced to the upper edge of the motor. Once this minimum
level is reached, a mechanism should be used to switch the pump off as a safety measure.
Reduction of operating by LCIE
Special conditions for safe use from the point of view of EEx-protection (in accordance
with LCIE 03 ATEX 6202 X) :
- Motor completely under water at 60°C water temperature maximum operation time 5
- Motor completely out of water at 35°C water temperature maximum operation time 10
- If the fluid temperature is higher than 40°C (continuous operation), the device may not
The motor is sealed against the pump chamber using one mechanical seal and one lip seal.
In order to ensure the pump never runs dry and no unauthorised high tem-peratures are
able to arise at the sliding surfaces, the separating chamber between the rotary mechanical seals is filled with a collecting liquid, such as medical white oil or a water and glycol
mixture or simply water where the installation is frost-resistant.
Failure to comply with these instructions invalidates the given explosion protection.

be operated in an atmosphere likely to catch fire at a surface temperature of 135°C, increased by the difference of fluid temperature and 40°C.
The liquid is poured in when the pump is first assembled and must be topped up after all
assembly and repair work.
Filling levels: motors of ø 110: 115 ml motors of ø 135: 190 ml
motors of ø 125: 150 ml motors of ø 135: 150 ml (MTS)
If this is not done, the temperature may exceed category T4!
Pumps with plastic hydraulic parts are only suitable for use in ex-areas using a “wet” installation.
Should pumps with plastic hydraulic parts be run dry, this will invalidate the explosion protection.
The customer must ensure that the pump is bled using a suitable automatic bleeding
mechanism so as to ensure that the pumping process starts as soon as the switching level
is reached. The supply to the shaft must be designed to prevent air from entering into the
pump hydraulics.
ATTENTION!
Do not use frequency converters (FC).
Ensure the pump cable does not snap during laying and that all other wires and insulation

materials do not suffer damage caused by vibrations or rubbing during operation of the
