I. Turning the INSTRUMENT On
Video Colposcope
Quick Reference
Guide
Flip the power switch on the handle
of the colposcope to the “ON” position by pressing |. The video colposcope will then automatically execute
an internal check of the optical system by cycling from low to high magnification ending in the low
magnification setting. NOTE: DURING THIS PROCESS, WHICH WILL
TAKE ABOUT 30 SECONDS, you
will not have the ability to use the
controls.
II. Re-starting the System
The colposcope must be turned off for 15 seconds prior to restarting the system. If the system is turned off for less the 15
seconds, the lamp will not re-ignite. If this occurs, turn the
system off and wait for 15 seconds prior to turning the system on.
III. Focusing
To focus the video colposcope,
adjust either the exam table or
instrument to the desired height.
Position the video colposcope so
that the cervical image is centered
on the monitor. At this point the
image will most likely be blurry
and out of focus. To bring the
instrument into focus, move the
entire colposcope by slowly
advancing or withdrawing the
instrument, relative to the patient,
until the image comes into focus.
Once focus at low magnification is achieved, depress the
‘ZOOM +’ control until maximum magnification is obtained.
The monitor will again most likely show a blurry image. To
bring the image into focus, very slowly advance or withdraw
the instrument, relative to the patient, until the image is
sharp and in focus. Once this is achieved at high magnification, depress the ‘ZOOM -’ control and return to a lower mag-
nification setting. This procedure will allow the image to stay
in focus throughout the full range of magnification during the
entire procedure. You will only lose focus if either the colposcope or patient is moved.
IV. Fine Focus
Use of the fine ‘focus’< > controls is recommended ONLY for
visualization at high magnification where the depth of field
is 5 mm, or for inspecting the endocervical canal or vaginal
fornices. Once focus is achieved (Section III), at high magnification, simply depress the ‘focus’ < > until the area of visualization is in focus.
Note: To “reset” the focus back to its original setting when
the colposcope is first turned on, press and hold one of the
‘zoom +’ controls for 4 seconds after maximum magnification
has been achieved.
V. Ta king a B io p s y
Once you have selected the appropriate magnification setting, pull the video colposcope away from the patient until
the image is just out of focus. Press the fine focus forward
control ‘focus >‘ until the image is in focus. This process
will maximize your working distance for biopsy. Insert the
forceps in the usual manner, then guide the instrument on
the video monitor.
VI. Using the Green Filter
To use the electronic green filter, press the green filter button
located on the left side of the video colposcope. The LED will
remain lit while the green filter is on. To deactivate the filter,
press the green filter button again.
VII. Mag Index Control
To activate the Magnification Index
control, press the blue button located
on the right side of the colposcope.
To deactivate the Magnification Index
control, press the blue Mag Index
control button again.
VIII. Polarization Filter Control
The polarization filter can be rotated
to reduce the glare from the image.
The filter is completely engaged (minimum glare) when the
control is fully rotated to the left. The filter can be disengaged by fully rotating the Polarization filter control to the
right.
