Safety precautions

The appliance corresponds to recognised technology stand ards and the relevant safety regulations. Proper use of the appliance is however essential to avoid damage and acci dents. Please therefore follow the precautions given in these operating instructions.
In accordance with the requirements of IEC 60335-1:
This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, un­less supervised or unless they have been given instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

Before using for the first time

The appliance must be installed and connected up to the electricity supply in ac-
cordance with the separate installation instructions. The necessary work should be done by a qualified fitter or electrician.
Dispose of the packaging material in accordance with local regulations.Before using the newly installed appliance for the first time, please follow the tips
in the 'Using for the first time' section.
Make the desired user settings.

Correct use

The appliance is only designed for use in the home for preparing food. No liability
is assumed for any damage caused by improper or incorrect use.
Not to be used as a room heater or humidifier.Any repairs, modifications or manipulations to the appliance, especially any elec-
trical parts, should only be carried out by the manufacturer, its Customer Services or similarly qualified persons. Repairs if carried out incorrectly may cause serious injury, damage to the appliance and fittings, as well as affect the functioning of the appliance. If the appliance is not working properly or in case of a repair order, follow the instructions given in the 'Repair service' section. Please contact Customer Services if necessary.
Use original spare parts only.Retain these operating instructions for future reference. If you sell or pass the appli-
ance on to a third party, please ensure these operating instructions accompany the appliance, together with the instructions on installation. In this way, the new owner can inform themselves about how to use the appliance correctly and read the per­tinent safety precautions.

Children in the home

Packaging material (e.g. plastic, polystyrene) can be dangerous for children. Dan-
ger of suffocation! Please keep packaging material away from children.
The appliance is designed for use by adults who are familiar with these operating
instructions. Children are often unable to recognise the danger of electrical appli­ances. Ensure proper supervision and do not allow children to play with the appli­ance – there is a danger that children can hurt themselves.
Use the childproof locking facility.

Note on use

If the appliance is visibly damaged, do not use it. Contact our Customer Services.If the appliance is not operating property, disconnect it from the electricity supply
immediately.
Ensure the mains cables of other electrical appliances do not get caught in the door
of the appliance as the electrical cable insulation could get damaged.
If the mains cable is damaged, it must be replaced by Customer Services.Ensure there are no foreign bodies or pets in the cooking space before closing the
appliance door.
Objects that could pose a danger if the appliance were accidentally switched on
should not be stored in the cooking space. Do not store temperature-sensitive or inflammable materials, e.g. cleaning agents, oven sprays, etc., in the cooking space or in the warming drawer.
Keep the appliance door closed when grilling as the heat could otherwise damage
the operating and display elements or the fitted units above.
Also observe the special safety precautions in the 'Hob' section.

Caution: Burn hazard!
The appliance gets very hot when in use.Heat is produced during baking and roasting. The appliance door, especially the
glass, can get hot. Burn hazard – do not touch. Keep children away!
Overheated fat and oil can easily catch fire. Heating oil in the cooking space to
sear meat is dangerous and should not be done. Never try to extinguish burning oil or fat with water – danger of explosion! Smother the flames with a damp cloth and keep all doors and windows closed.
Do not pour spirits (e.g. brandy, whisky, schnapps, etc.) over hot food – danger
of explosion!
Accessories such as wire shelves and trays, etc. get hot in the cooking space.
Always wear protective gloves or use oven cloths.
Do not leave the appliance unsupervised when drying herbs, bread, mushrooms,
etc. If the foodstuff dries out too much, it can pose a fire hazard.
If you notice smoke from a possible fire coming from the appliance or from inside
the cooking space, keep the appliance door closed. Switch off the appliance or disconnect it from the mains supply.
The appliance will remain hot for some time after it is switched off and cool down
only slowly to room temperature. Allow sufficient time for the appliance to cool down before, for instance, cleaning it.

Caution: Danger of injury!
When using or cleaning the appliance be careful not to put fingers in the door
hinges, otherwise there is a risk of injury if the appliance door is moved. Particular care should be taken when children are around.
Only leave the appliance door open in the at-rest position. An open appliance
door poses danger of tripping or injury! Do not sit or rest on the appliance door or use it as a storage surface.
How to avoid damaging the appliance
Close the appliance door carefully.Do not place baking trays, glass dishes, wire shelves or other objects directly on
the bottom heat element.
Using knives or cutting wheels on the original baking tray will visibly damage the
surface.
To prevent corrosion, allow the appliance to dry thoroughly after use – leave the
appliance door open in the at-rest position.
When cleaning the appliance make sure no water gets inside it. Use a moderately
damp cloth. Do not spray the inside or the outside of the appliance with water. Do not use a steam cleaner. If water gets inside the appliance, it can cause damage.

Note on the hob

Do not leave the hot plates switched on at a high power level without any cook-
ware for any length of time as this can damage them.
In case of overheating, switch the hot plate off and allow it to cool down complete-
ly! Do not stand cookware on it. Under no circumstances use cold water to cool it down.
A hob guard can be fitted to protect small children. The Swiss Council for Accident
Prevention (bfu) in Berne can provide advice.

Using for the first time

Before operating the newly installed appliance for the first time the following steps should be taken:
A Remove all transport and packaging materials from the cooking space.
A If «0.00» and «AUTO» flash alternately in the digital display, simultaneously de-
press the and buttons and turn the adjusting knob to set the desired time. – After about 4 seconds the time is set.
A Heat the empty appliance (i.e. without the wire shelf, baking tray, etc.) using the
operating mode at the maximum cooking space temperature for around 1 hour. As there is likely to be some smoke and odour given off, we recommend ven­tilating the room well during this phase.
A If your appliance comes with hot plates, heat each hot plate individually (without
cookware) at full power for 5 minutes, then switch off and allow to cool down. Again, ensure that the room is well ventilated throughout.
A If applicable, see the operating instructions on using a glass ceramic hob for the
first time and its operation, and follow the instructions given.

General operating instructions

The timer, operating time and switch-off time can be selected by pressing the appro­priate button.
The symbol for the function selected illuminates in the digital display.
Turn the adjusting knob to change the setting.
After about 4 seconds the setting is set.
Additional settings or changes can be made at any time.
Press the button to cancel the settings.

User settings

Childproof lock

The childproof lock is to prevent the appliance from being accidentally switched on. The buttons may still be activated, but the heating element in the cooking space will not come on.
Check that a delayed start has not been set. «AUTO» should not be illuminated in the digital display.
Switching the childproof lock on
A Depress the and buttons at the same time for about 8 seconds.
– «.On» appears in the digital display.
A Turn the adjusting knob clockwise.
– «.OF» appears in the digital display. – The symbol illuminates. – After about 5 seconds, the time appears again next to the symbol.
Switching the childproof lock off
A Depress the and buttons at the same time for about 8 seconds.
– «.OF» appears in the digital display.
A Turn the adjusting knob clockwise.
– «.On» appears in the digital display. – The symbol goes out. – After about 5 seconds, the time appears again in the digital display.

Operating modes

The operating modes available are described below.
Top / Bottom heat
Top / Bottom heat is the conventional method of cooking. Heat comes from the heating elements at the top and bottom of the cooking space. It is only possible to bake and roast food on one level. Depending on which level is being cooked on, the top or bottom heat can be more or less effective.
Especially suitable for roasting succulent joints, as well as for baking pies, cakes, biscuits, etc.
Bottom heat
Bottom heat can be used for preserving foodstuffs or for baking the bottom of pies, for instance, well.

Large grill
Keep appliance door closed when grilling.
Small grill
The large grill is suitable for grilling a large amount of flat food and for gratinating large dishes.
Use the wire shelf for grilling flat food and for putting tins on.
The small grill is especially suitable for grilling small amounts of flat food and gratinating in an energy-saving way.

When grilling, heat is transferred from the red hot heating element by infrared radiation. The small grill uses the inner heating element only; the large grill also uses top heat.

Convection
Grillforced convection
In addition to top / bottom heat, a fan circulates the hot air evenly around the cooking space.
Suitable for making soufflées, eclairs and me­ringues on one level.
This operating mode uses both the large grill and hot air at the same time. To avoid excessively dirtying the cooking space, put the food to be grilled in a shallow, heatproof dish. It is recommended that food be grilled on the wire shelf at a cooking space temperature of between 150 °C and 190 °C. A baking tray lined with aluminium foil placed at the lowest shelf level serves as a drip tray.
Suitable for roasting chicken and meat as well as for gratinating and browning.

PizzaPlus
Hot air
Uses a combination of hot air and bottom heat to bake the base of the food particularly intensively.
Especially suitable for baking juicy flans, quiches, pizzas, etc. on one level.
Use the original baking tray or a round tin on the wire shelf.
A heating element behind the back wall of the cooking space heats up the air in the cooking space. A fan circulates the hot air evenly around the cooking space. The food is heated evenly from all sides so that it is possible to bake on two to three levels at the same time, thus saving energy.

Suitable for baking biscuits, flans and cakes on several levels or roasting a joint of meat at the bot­tom and baking a gratin at the top of the cooking space.

Selecting an operating mode

How to select an operating mode is explained by means of an example. Assume you want to bake a cake in a 25 cm long cake tin. The 'Tips on settings' section gives:

The recommended cooking space temperature is given as a range to take account of differences between recipes. For the first attempt, it is recommended the cooking space temperature be set at the median value – in this example, 170 °C.
A Put the wire shelf in the cooking space at level 1.

Switching on

Burns hazard from heat produced during baking and roasting! Please first read the 'Safety precautions' section.
A Set the dial for the operating mode to .
– The «In operation» indicator light illuminates.
A Set the dial for the cooking space temperature to 170 °C.
– The «Heating» indicator light illuminates. – The «Heating» indicator light remains illuminated as long as the cooking space
is heating up.
– Once the temperature is reached, heating occurs at intervals so as to maintain
a constant cooking space temperature.
The cooking space temperature can be set at anywhere between 50 °C and 270 °C for all operating modes.
A Place the cake tin on the wire shelf.

End of baking

A After baking for approximately 50 minutes, check to see whether the cake is done.
Insert a wooden skewer in the centre of the cake and if it comes out clean the cake is ready. Otherwise put the cake back and continue to bake.
A Take the cake out of the cooking space when it is done.

Switching off

A Set the operating mode and cooking space temperature to «0».
– The indicator light goes out (provided no cooking zone is switched on).
The appliance is completely switched off when only the time is illuminated.
A Leave the appliance door in the at-rest position to allow the cooking space to cool
down.

Optimal use

The recommended baking and roasting temperatures given in older recipe books are likely to be too high and the recommended shelf levels in the cooking space not ideal. The 'Tips on settings' section shows how to get the best use out of the appliance. If in doubt, follow these tips. Note that the temperatures and times given in the tables are based on typical methods of preparing food and thus are only indicative.
Cooking space temperature when using hot air
When baking or roasting with hot air, the cooking space temperature needs to be around 20 °C lower than with top and bottom heat. Recipes often only give temper­atures for baking or roasting with top and bottom heat. Compare them to the temper­atures in the 'Tips on settings' section. If in doubt, select a lower temperature.
If the cake or roast is nice and brown on the outside but still doughy or raw in the middle, it is usually a sign that the cooking space temperature is too high.
Baking with hot air
Place a suitable baking form (round tin, spring form tin, cake tin, etc.) on the wire shelf. Push the original baking tray right to the back of the cooking space for optimum air circulation.

Saving energy
Avoid opening the appliance door frequently.Only switch the illumination on if needed.Use residual heat: for longer cooking times, i.e. over 30 minutes, set the cooking
space temperature to «0» some 5–10 minutes before the end. Exceptions: soufflé, sponge, choux pastry and puff pastry.
To maintain ventilation of the cooking space, do not set operating mode to «0».
Preheating
Do not preheat the cooking space unless recommended in the recipe or in 'Tips on
settings'.
Preheat briefly before grilling. See the grilling times given in 'Tips on settings'.
Minimize cleaning
To prevent food spills on the bottom of the cooking space, place protective foil
between the bottom of the cooking space and the bottom heat element. The appli­ance comes with protective foil in the bottom. To order more original protective foil sheets, see the 'Accessories and spare parts' section for the article number.
When grilling, to minimize cleaning, place the original baking tray – lined with
aluminium foil – at level 1.

The timer functions like an egg timer. It can be used at any time and independently of all other functions.

– The setting uses minute intervals. – The maximum timer duration is 23 hours and 59 minutes.
The timer starts in about 4 seconds.

When the timer is up:
– A sequence of 2 short acoustic signals is repeated for 2 minutes. – The symbol flashes.
A Press the button to cancel the acoustic signal.
Checking and changing

Operating time

The operating time is the length of time that an operating mode is switched on. The operating mode automatically switches off when the operating time is up.
Setting
A Preheat the cooking space if necessary.
A Place the food in the cooking space.
A Press the button.

A Turn the adjusting knob to set the desired operating time.
The appliance starts in about 4 minutes.

Delayed start

The delayed start function helps you if you want to have a dish ready for a certain time but you cannot switch the appliance on or off yourself at just the right time. Set the operating time as well as the switch-off time. The appliance will switch on – with a delay – and off again automatically.

The switch-off time can be extended to 23 hours and 59 minutes at the most.
The delayed start is activated in about four seconds.

Example: You select the operating mode and 180 °C.
At 9:00 you set an operating time of 1hour and 15 minutes and a switch­off time of 12:30. The appliance will switch on at 11:15 and got off again at 12:30.

During the delayed start period, it is possible to change any of the settings.

A Set the operating mode and the cooking space temperature to «0».

Drying and desiccating
Always keep your eye on foodstuffs when drying or desiccating them – if they dry out too much, they can pose a fire hazard!
A Only use healthy, ripe fruit and fresh mushrooms and herbs.
A Place the washed and chopped fruit, mushrooms or herbs on baking paper on the
wire shelf or on the original baking tray and put in the cooking space at the appropriate level.
A When drying or desiccating, it is only possible to use at most one wire shelf and
two original baking trays at the same time.
A Turn the food at regular intervals to ensure even drying.
Wedge a wooden spoon between the underside of the operating panel and the top of the appliance door, leaving about a 2 cm gap open.

Bottling
Bottling involves preserving food in glass jars.
A Only use undamaged jars.
A Fill and seal the jars in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
A Put a maximum of five jars – ideally of the same size and each holding no more
than 1 litre – in the original baking tray and place at level 2 in the cold cooking space, as shown in the diagram. The jars should not touch one another.
A Set the or operating mode to 150 °C and heat until the liquid in the jars
starts to bubble (with the operating mode this will be after about 60–90 min­utes and with after about 35–40 minutes).
A Reduce the cooking space temperature to 0 °C and allow the jars to sterilise for
40 minutes.
A Turn off the operating mode using the dial and leave the appliance door open in
the at-rest position.
A Leave the jars in the cooking space to cool down completely. Finally, check that
the jars are sealed.

Optional accessories

Warming drawer

Do not store combustible or flammable materials in the ap pliance drawer!
If your appliance is fitted with a warming drawer, this can be used to warm tableware or to keep food that is well covered warm for short periods.

Cleaning the exterior

A Avoid cleaning the surface of the appliance with abrasive or caustic cleaning
agents, stainless steel cleaner, scouring pads, wire wool, etc. as they can damage the surface.
A Remove any dirt or excess cleaning solution as quickly as possible. Using a cloth
dampened with water, clean the surface (for metallic surfaces rub in the direction of the original polish lines) and then polish with a soft cloth.
Appliance / Warming drawer
The drawer can be removed for ease of cleaning.
A Pull out the drawer as far as the stopper will allow, lift slightly and remove from the
front.

Cleaning the accessories

The wire shelf and shelf guides can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
The baking tray can be cleaned in the dishwasher. The non-stick effect, however,
will wear off with time.

Cleaning the cooking space

As the temperature sensor and the heating elements in the cooking space can be easily damaged, care must be taken not to bend them during cleaning. After lifting the bottom heat element up to clean underneath, lay it back down on the bottom of the cooking space, push ing it down slightly at the back.
A Avoid using abrasive cleaners such as scouring pads, steel wool, etc. as they can
damage the surface.
A Clean the appliance door with a soft cloth dampened with water and then dry with
a soft cloth.
Depending on the model, the cooking space may have an enamel coating (smooth
surface) and in which case it can be cleaned using standard oven cleaners. Please follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Various parts in the cooking space can be easily removed for ease of cleaning.

Catalytic selfcleaning
Do not scrub the cooking space or use oven sprays, cleaning pastes or household detergents in it. The catalytic coating may otherwise become discoloured and the selfcleaning properties may be destroyed.
Depending on the model, the cooking space may come supplied with a catalytic self­cleaning coating. The coating is matt and rough. During the catalytic cleaning pro­cess, food residues are burned off at temperatures of over 200 °C during normal use.
The cleaning process requires oxygen out of the air. A dirty catalytic coating should, therefore, not be covered. Dried-up, baked-on food spills (e.g. burned-on meat sauce or glaze) impair the cleaning effect and can be avoided as follows:
A When grilling, place the original baking tray – lined with aluminium foil – at
level 1.
A Wipe away food spills as soon as possible when still in a liquid form.
A Place protective foil between the bottom of the cooking space and the bottom heat
element.
For dried-up, baked-on food spills:
A Soften with a damp cloth and then wipe away.
A Use a plastic or wooden spatula to scrape off any larger dried-up, baked-on food
spills. Soften any stubborn rests with a damp cloth and then wipe away.

Only remove dried-up, baked-on food spills. Any remaining food residues will eventually disappear after going through the baking and cleaning process a number of times. In the case of a heavily soiled appliance or after being in operation for several years, some stains may remain.
If the cooking space is heavily soiled, it is recommended that the empty cooking space be heated for several hours at the maximum cooking space temperature using the operating mode .
The life expectancy of the catalytic coating largely depends on the degree of soiling.

Tips and tricks

The baking or roast looks good on the outside, but is still doughy or raw in the middle
The baking or roasting time can be reduced only slightly by increasing the cooking
space temperature (cooked on the outside and raw on the inside). Lower the tem­perature of the cooking space slightly and lengthen the cooking time correspondingly.
Cake collapses
Check your settings with those given in the 'Tips on settings' section.Reduce the cooking space temperature by 10 °C and possibly extend the baking
time.
Bake the finished cake mixture immediately. Follow the mixing times given in re-
cipes. With whisked sponge cakes, for example, beat the egg yolk mass and the egg whites slightly longer.
Check the recipe: adding too much baking powder, for instance, can cause
problems.
Uneven browning
Uneven browning is to a certain degree normal. More even browning is generally
achieved at lower temperatures. If necessary, lower the temperature of the cooking space slightly and extend the cooking time correspondingly.
When baking with hot air, check that the shelf levels used correspond to those re-
commended in the 'Tips on settings' section.
Do not push baking tins or bulky foodstuff right to the back of the cooking space.

The baking has come out lighter on one tray than on the other
When baking on more than one tray at the same time, the baking produce is not
always ready simultaneously. Give the tray with the baking that is not so brown a little longer.
Measuring the cooking space temperature using own thermometer
In accordance with an internationally accepted norm, the cooking space temper-
ature is measured when the appliance is empty. Taking own temperature measure­ments can be imprecise and not suitable for checking how exact the cooking space temperature is.

Hob
Do not leave the hot plates switched on at a high power level without any cookware for any length of time, as this can damage them. In case of overheating, switch the hot plate off and allow it to cool down completely! Do not stand cookware on it. Under no circumstances use cold water to cool it down. A hob guard can be fitted to protect small children. The Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (bfu) in Berne can provide advice.
Depending on the model, the hob comes with a glass ceramic plate or with hot plates. For the glass ceramic plate, please also read the corresponding operating instructions.

The dials are for switching the respective cooking zones on and off and regulating the power level. After heating up, the cooking zone switches on and off intermittently, ac­cording to the power level selected.
Switching on / off

Hot plates

Do not use pots and pan that are smaller than the hot plate, as this can cause the
outer zone of the hot plate to overheat. Over time, the hot plate will become dam­aged and the chrome steel ring will become loose or break.
Frequent overboiling (especially if using pans that are too small) can cause pitting
corrosion in the outer zone of the hot plate.
Cleaning and maintenance
A Allow the hot plates to cool down before cleaning. Wipe clean with a slightly
damp cloth. Remove food soiling with fine wire wool.
A Once to twice per week use a standard hot plate cleaner to restore and protect
the hot plates.
There is a rust-free chrome steel ring around the hot plates to protect the edge. Over time, the heat will cause the ring to become discoloured, turning yellow. Discolouration is normal and cannot be removed by cleaning.

Cookware

The base of the cookware should have no sharp rims or edges. Only use cast iron cookware with a smooth enam elled base.
Electric cookware with a stable base is suitable for use with the glass ceramic hob.
The base should be at least 2.5 mm thick and multi-layered.
The outside layer should ideally be made of chrome-nickel steel.Electric cookware has a slightly concave base when cold. When it is heated up
and expands, the base becomes flat ensuring good contact with the surface of the cooking zone.
The cookware must not wobble on the surface during use.
Pot and pan bases must correspond to the size of the cooking zone. Using too
large a pan will result in the base of the pan being heated unevenly and possibly being damaged as a consequence.
Glass and ceramic cookware conduct heat poorly and therefore should not be
used.
Ensure that the base of the cookware is dry, otherwise when heated a film of steam
can form. Heat transfer is reduced and can cause the cooking zone to overheat.
A Place the cookware exactly on the cooking zone markings.
Cookware bases made of aluminium or aluminium alloys can leave stubborn abrasion marks. Use cookware suitable for use with glass ceramic hobs.

Disposal

Packaging
All packaging materials (cardboard, plastic film (PE) and polystyrene (EPS)) are
marked and should, if possible, be collected for recycling and disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
Disconnection
Disconnect the appliance from the mains. With a fixed appliance, this is to be car-
ried out by a qualified electrician!
Safety
Disable the appliance to prevent accidents caused by improper use, especially
through children playing.
Pull the plug out of the mains socket or have the appliance disconnected from the
mains by a qualified electrician. Then cut the mains cable.
Disposal
The old appliance should not be discarded as worthless rubbish. If disposed of
correctly, the raw materials can be recovered for recycling.
The symbol on the identification plate warns that the appliance may not be
disposed of in normal household waste.
The appliance must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations on waste
disposal. For more information on the handling, disposal and recycling of the product, please contact the local authorities, the local recycling facilities for household waste or the retailer from whom you purchased the appliance.
