INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing VTech® Small Talk™ learning toy! The VTech® Small Talk™ learning toy is designed specifically for
toddlers 12 months and up. The VTech® Small Talk™ has several interactive features for toddlers to discover. The number buttons, answering machine button and cell phone allows the opportunity for toddlers to role play by calling up their three animals friends. The rolling wheels and optional pull cord allows for stationary or on the go play.

WARNING: All packing materials, such as tape, plastic sheets,
wire ties and tags are not part of this toy, and should be discarded for your child’s safety.
GETTING STARTED
BATTERY INSTALLATION
1. Make sure the unit is turned OFF.
2. Locate the battery cover on the bottom of the unit. Use a coin or screwdriver to loosen the screw.
3. Install 3 new “AA” (UM-3/LR6) batteries following the diagram inside the battery box. (The use of new alkaline batteries is recommended for maximum performance.)
4. Replace the battery cover and tighten the screw to secure the battery cover.
BATTERY NOTICE
Install batteries correctly observing the polarity (+, -) signs to avoid leakage.
Do not mix old and new batteries.
Do not use batteries of different types.
Remove batteries from the equipment when the unit will not be used for an extended period of time.

Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
Do not attempt to recharge ordinary batteries.
The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.
Only batteries of the same and equivalent type as recommended are to be used.
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THE USE OF RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES.
PRODUCT FEATURES
1. ON/OFF BUTTON
To turn the unit ON, press the ON/OFF BUTTON ( ). To turn the unit OFF,
press the ON/OFF BUTTON ( ) a second time.
2. VOLUME CONTROL SWITCH
T o adjust the volume, locate the VOLUME CONTROL SWITCH on the bottom of the unit. Slide it to the ( ) position for LOW VOLUME or to the ( ) position for HIGH VOLUME.

3. PULL CORD
Oink! Oink!
T o convert the unit from a push toy to a pull toy, remove the pull cord from the battery compartment and thread it through the eyelet on the bottom of the phone base. We suggest you store the pull cord in the compartment until your child is walking.
4. AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF
To preserve battery life, the VTech® Small Talk™ learning toy will automatically power down after several minutes without input. The unit can be turned on again by pressing any button.
ACTIVITIES
1. Remove the cell phone from the base to hear a sung song and fun phrase. Place the cell phone in the base to hear a hang up sound effect followed by a sung song. The light will flash with the sound
2. Press the numer buttons while the cell phone is on the base to hear a dialing sound effect followed by the numbers identified. Press the number buttons while the cell phone is away from the base to hear the numbers identified. After any three number buttons have been press the unit will randomly call one of the animals characters.

3. Press the “0” button to call the “operator”, you will hear fun phrases. The light will flash with the sound.
4. Press the "#" button to hear a phone sound effect and phrase or a sequence of phone sounds. The light will flash with the sound
5. Push the antenna back, or spin the roller manually to see the roller turn. You will hear a random phrase related to the animal on the roller.
6. Press the answering machine button while the phone is on the base to hear random phone messages left by the animal characters. Press the answering machine button while the phone is away from the base to hear a pre-recorded message. The light will flash with the sound.

7. Press the cell phone buttons to hear a random phrase, a sung song or a ringing sound effect. The light will flash with the sound.
8. Push or pull the phone to hear the sung song. The light will flash with the sound.
SUNG SONG LYRICS
Press the buttons on the phone. Call your friends, say hello. Press the buttons on the phone. Ring, ring, hello!

NOTE:
To get a better interaction between the cell phone and the base unit, we recommend that you keep the two units close to each other. For the best results please place the cell phone directly in front of the base unit. If you notice that the base unit does not respond to the cell phone, try pressing the buttons a few times or change the angle of the cell phone.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
1. Keep the unit clean by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth.
2. Keep the unit away from direct sunlight and heat source.
3. Remove the batteries when the unit is not in use for an extended period of time.
4. Do not drop the unit on hard surfaces and do not expose the unit to moisture or water.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If for some reason the program/activity stops working, please follow these steps:
1. Please turn the unit OFF.
2. Interrupt the power supply by removing the batteries.
3. Let the unit stand for a few minutes, then replace the batteries.
4. Turn the unit ON. The unit should now be ready to play again.
