Main features
• The SOUNDBOX mini utilizes VOX specic sound technology that
was developed for use in this multipurpose stereo amplier.
• Runs on six alkaline or nickel hydride AA baeries or with the included AC adapter for easy use no maer where you are.
• In addition to four high-quality eects, the amplier features four
delay and reverb eects that simulate acoustic reverb.
• The TAP buon enables you to easily set the delay time in sync with
the tempo.
• The SOUNDBOX mini is equipped with a tuner function (for E only).
You can tune a musical instrument, such as a guitar, when it’s connected to the GUITAR jack of the SOUNDBOX mini.
•
Inputs include an AUX IN jack, for connecting an external audio device
(CD, MP3 player, etc.), and a MIC jack, where you can connect a microphone. You can play along with recorded music or accompany your
vocals on guitar. You can also adjust the send level from the MIC jack
to the Delay /Reverb eects by using the dedicated FX2 SEND knob.
• By using the Center Cancel function, you can easily obtain a “minus
one” sound to audio being sent to the AUX In jack on the Soundbox
mini. This function aenuates vocals or solos that are panned in the
center of a mix, allowing you to perform over that section in a manner
similar to karaoke.
• The SOUNDBOX mini features the VOX Bassilator technology enabling you to create a solid Bass tone.

Further more, the maximum eect is delivered because very accurate acoustic measurement
ensures optimization for each playback system.
Setup
This section describes the basic setup of your amplier.
NOTE:
This manual also describes safety precautions and functions. Be
sure to read the entire manual.
1. Set the VOLUME knob and TRIM knob to the minimum level.
2. Install baeries in the amplier. Alternatively, you can connect the
included AC adapter to the DC12V jack on the rear panel, then plug
the adapter into an AC outlet.
3. Plug the cable that’s connected to your musical instrument or audio
device into the input jack on the top panel of the SOUNDBOX mini.
If you also plan to use an external audio device (CD, MP3 player,
etc.), or a microphone, connect the player to the AUX IN jack, or the
microphone to the MIC jack on the top panel.
4. Press and hold down the power buon until the power LED lights up
and the power turns on.
NOTE:
When turning o the power, press and hold down the power
buon until the power LED turns o.
5. Slowly raise the VOLUME Knob to the desired level.
When using a microphone, you can adjust its volume with the TRIM
Knob.
Installing Batteries
Remove the baery compartment cover that is located on the back of the
unit (page 7). Insert six AA-size alkaline baeries or six NiMH baeries,
observing the correct polarity orientation, as shown in the gure below.
NOTE:
Baeries are not included. You will need to purchase them sepa-
rately.
NOTE:
Be sure to install baeries in the correct orientation.
NOTE:
Do not use dierent type baeries or baeries with dierent
power consumption levels together.
Replacing the Batteries
Replace the baeries when the power LED becomes dim.
NOTE:
If the baery level becomes low, noise may be generated.
NOTE:
Depleted baeries must be removed from the SOUNDBOX mini
immediately. If you leave them in, malfunctions such as baery
leakage may occur. You should also remove the baeries if you’re
not going to be using the SOUNDBOX mini for an extended period of time.

Input Section
1. Input jacks
Here is where you will connect the output of a musical instrument,
such as a guitar, or an audio device. For monophonic sounds, use the
GUITAR (L/MONO) jack.
NOTE:
The R jack is available only when you have selected KBD with
the INST selector.
2. MIC jack
Connect a microphone here.
3. TRIM knob
This knob enables you to adjust the volume level of the microphone
input.
4. FX2 SEND Knob
This knob enables you to adjust the volume level to be sent from the
microphone input to eect 2 (delay/reverb eect).

5. INST (instrument) selector
Select the type of musical instrument or device that’s connected to
the input jack.
BASS: Bass guitar
1: This is a hi- sound that’s suitable for slapping.
2:
This is a vintage-amplier-like sound that’s suitable for nger picking.
GTR: Electric guitar
1: This is a tight and clean sound containing a deep low-pitched sound.
2: This is a crunch sound, delivering a rened top end.
3: This is a distortion sound that’s suitable for playing leads.
4: This is a high-gain that’s powerful and heavy.
ACO: Acoustic guitar
1: This is a sound that’s suitable for strumming.
2: This is a sound that’s suitable for playing single notes.
KBD: Keyboard
1: This is a sound with compression that’s suitable for percussive
playing

2: This is a sound with rich midrange that’s suitable for an electric
piano.
3: This is a at sound that’s also suitable for an external audio device
or Mp3 player.
6. LOW/GAIN Knob
When having selected BASS or GTR with the INST selector, you can
adjust the pre amp gain (GAIN). When having selected another, you
can adjust the lower volume (LOW).

7. HIGH/TONE Knob
When having selected BASS or GTR with the INST selector, you can
adjust the tone (TONE). When having selected another, you can adjust
the higher volume (HIGH).
8. VOLUME Knob
This knob enables you to adjust the Amp Section volume.
EFFECTS section
This is where you can adjust the seings for the eects.
For additional details on each eect, refer to the “Eects” (page 8).
9. FX1 knob
This knob enables you to choose the compressor/modulation eect
and set the intensity of the eect.
To bypass the eect, rotate the knob all the way to the le.
10. FX2 knob
This knob enables you to choose the delay/reverb eect and set the
intensity of the eect that’s applied to the input sound from the input
jacks. To bypass the eects, rotate the knob all the way to the le.
To apply the eect that’s selected here to the microphone input, use
the FX2 SEND Knob in input Section to set the intensity of the effect. When you set the knob to the lemost position of each type,
the delay/reverb eect that are applied to the input sound from the
input jack will be turned o.

TAP
buon
This buon enables you to set the time of the Delay and Reverb effects. Tap this buon twice to set the time. The duration between
two taps will be used as the time value. The LED will ash in sync
with the time.
HINT: To set the time to exactly match the tempo of a song, press
, LED
the TAP buon several times along with the song.
When you hold down the TAP switch for one second or more, all
eects will be bypassed, and the tuner function will turn on. For
details, refer to the “Using the Tuner” (page 8).
AUX IN/PHONES Section
12. PHONES jack
Use this jack if you’re plugging directly in to a mixer, recording
device, or if you’re using headphones. The output signal from this
jack is taken before the power amp.
NOTE:
Connecting headphones to this jack will mute the internal
speaker.
NOTE:
Be sure to use a stereo cable (TRS) for connections using the
PHONES jack.
13. AUX IN jack
This is where an external audio device such as a CD or Mp3 player
is connected. This enables you to conveniently connect an audio
player and play your guitar along with the player’s output. To adjust
the volume, use the controls of the connected device.
14. WIDE/CENTER CANCEL buon, LED
Press the buon to turn the wide function ON (red LED lights). You
can now enjoy spacious sound with Acoustage technology. Press the
buon again to turn the function OFF (LED extinguishes).
Pressing the buon longer than 1 second causes the center cancel
function to go ON (green LED lights). Press the buon again to turn
the function OFF.
When you turn it on, sounds in the center of the mix (vocals or solos)
of the stereo music source from the AUX IN will be turned down.
This function is useful when you want to practice vocals or guitar
in a “minus one” environment.
NOTE:
Simultaneous use of the wide function and center cancel func-
tion is not possible.

This is lit while the power is on.

Pressing and holding down this buon enables you to turn the power
on or o.
The power LED on the top panel will light up when the power is
turned on.
2. DC 12V jack
Connect this jack to the included AC adapter.
NOTE:
The AC adapter should only be used with the main unit. Do not
use the adapter with other devices since doing so may cause a
malfunction.

Auto Power Off Function
The VOX SOUNDBOX mini is equipped with an Auto Power O function. The Auto Power O function automatically turns the power o
when there has been no user input for about 1 hour.
When the power is turned o, it’s not restored even when a knob or
selector is used. You’ll have to turn on the power again.
NOTE:
The Auto Power O function will turn on if the input volume is
too set to a minimal level.
NOTE:
The Auto Power O function is set to on as the factory default.
Setting the Auto Power Off function to enable or disable
1. Press and hold down the TAP buon and turn on the
power.
2. The TAP LED will indicate the current seing.
3. Press the TAP buon to switch between the enable and
disable seing.
4.
Wait a few seconds without using any of the buons or controls. The
unit will automatically switch to normal operation.
NOTE:
The enable/disable seing of the Auto Power O function will
be retained even when the power is turned o.
NOTE:
If you change a seing for the Auto Power O function, the time
seing of the delay/reverb eect will be reset to the factory default.

Using the Tuner
All effects are bypassed.
The pitch is
The tuner function lets you tune a musical instrument, such as a guitar
that’s connected to the input jack. The tuner detects the pitch of the input
sound, then indicates the discrepancy from the standard pitch of E. The
following instructions explain how to tune a guitar as an example.
1. Press and hold down the TAP buon for more than one second.
All eects will be bypassed, and the tuner function will turn on.
(No valid signal is being input.)
2. Play the open 6th string.
NOTE:
Be careful not to touch any other strings.
3. Tune the guitar so that only the center green LED indicator lights up,
as shown in the illustration below.
HINT: The SOUNDBOX mini recogniz-
es the pitch of E in any octave.
This is useful if you want to tune
to harmonics or tune other musical instruments, such as a bass
guitar.
4. To exit the tuner function, press the
TAP buon. The eect bypass will be
canceled.
HINT: Once you tune the 6th string using
the tuner function, tune the other
strings in reference to the 6th string.

This section describes characteristics of each eect.
FX1 Knob: Compressor/Modulation
COMP
This models a compressor that features a clean, percussive, and mellow
sustain. Suitable for pop or funk rhythms.
Use the knob to adjust the amount of sustain.
CHORUS
This models a standard analog chorus that adds a rich spaciousness
to the sound.
Use the knob to adjust the modulation speed.
FLANGE
This models an analog anger that creates a sound with a peculiar
swooshing eect like a jet engine.
Use the knob to adjust the modulation speed.
TREM
This models a typical tremolo built into a standard U.S. combo amp that
changes the volume up and down cyclically.
Use the knob to adjust the tremolo speed.

FX2 Knob: Delay/Reverb
A.DLY
This models an analog delay that uses a bucket brigade device (BBD).
The sound quality is low delity, but its warm sound is popular among
musicians.
Use the knob to adjust the mix amount of the delay sound.
Use the TAP buon to set the delay time. The maximum delay time is
1.2 seconds.
ECHO
This models a popular analog tape echo.
Tape echo was originally created by using a playback head, and the
delay time was adjusted by modifying the motor speed.
The knob and buon functionality are the same as the A.DLY model.
SPRING
This models a spring reverb inside a guitar amp.
Use the knob to adjust the mix amount of the reverb sound.
Use the TAP buon to set the reverb time.
HALL
This models reverberations in a concert hall containing many echoes.
The knob and buon functionality are the same as the SPRING model.
Troubleshooting
The power does not turn on even when the power button is pressed
and held down.
• Have you installed baeries? Are the baeries correctly oriented?
Or, is the AC adapter cord connected to the rear panel of the amp
correctly?
• Is the AC adapter plugged into an AC outlet?
• Is the AC outlet switched on and working?
• Is the AC adapter damaged?
There’s no sound coming from the amp
• Is your musical instrument turned up?
• Make sure that the musical instrument is connected properly.
• Is the connected cable working?
• Is the top panel VOLUME knob turned up?
• Do you have headphones or anything else plugged into the amp’s top
panel PHONES jack? If “yes,” unplug them.
The amp doesn’t seem very loud
• Is your musical instrument turned up?
• Is the top panel VOLUME knob turned down low?
• Are the baeries depleted?
There’s no sound heard from the PHONES jack when you use it.
• Check that the top panel VOLUME knob isn’t turned all the way down.
• Make sure sound is coming from the amp.
You’ll need to unplug your headphones or the cable from the PHONES
jack to do this, since plugging something into this jack automatically
mutes the amp’s speakers. If there’s still no sound from the amp, go to
the “There’s no sound coming from the amp” section. If you do hear
sound, check the headphones or cable you are hooking up to this jack.

The effects cannot be applied to the sound.
• Is the tuner function turned on?
If the tuner function is turned on, the eects will be bypassed. Press
the TAP buon to cancel the bypass.
• Are the FX1 and FX2 knobs set to OFF or to a lower value?
Adjust the FX1 and FX2 knobs.
• If the eects cannot be applied to the MIC signal, the FX2 SEND knob
might be set to a lower value.
Adjust the FX2 SEND knob.
The sound of a device that’s connected to the AUX IN jack is not
being output.
• Make sure that the external device is connected properly.
• The volume control on the external device might be set too low.
The sound from a microphone that’s connected to the MIC jack is
not being output.
• Make sure that the microphone is connected properly.
• The microphone switch could be set to o.
• The TRIM knob could be set too low.

Use of the Microphone Stand
You can screw a standard market-sold microphone stand into the 3/8inch microphone stand screw-hole on the boom of this unit to adjust
to the ideal height for use as a monitor.
Usage Conditions
Make sure that you fully understand the following information to ensure
that you use this product correctly.
• Use the microphone stand at a height of 120 cm (approximately 3.94 )
or lower (see illustration). If you use the stand at any greater height,
the system may tip over and cause injury or damage.
• Open the tripod legs at least 63 cm (approximately 2.07 ) apart (see
illustration). If the legs are any closer together, the system may tip
over and cause injury or damage.
• Do not use the microphone stand in an unstable location or on a slope.
If you use the stand on an unstable location, it may tip over and cause
injury or damage.
• Carefully route the cables that are connected to the SOUNDBOX mini
to keep them out of the way. If someone trips over a cable, the system
may tip over and cause injury or damage.
• Do not place anything on the SOUNDBOX mini that is mounted on
the speaker stand. The object may fall down, or the stand may tip over
and cause injury or damage.
• Do not install in a way that the center of gravity is tilted, such as using
