3.2 Principle of operation

Depending on the version, the ball valve tting PASVE is suitable for mounting on vessels with socket and ange DN 80 or for welding to vessels or pipelines.
The ball valve tting PASVE enables mounting or dismounting of the VEGABAR 54 pressure transmitter without the vessel having to be emptied or the pipeline depressurized.
By means of the swivelling and locking lever the ball valve tting PASVE can be set in three positions:
l Operation l Service l Cleaning
In
position "Operation", the
ball valve is open to the process,
the pressure transmitter is in measurement position.
In position "Service", the ball valve is closed to the process, pressure transmitter can be dismounted.
In position "Cleaning", the ball valve is closed to the process, the measurement aperture can be cleaned when the pressure transmitter is dismounted.

3.3 Packaging, transport and storage

Your instrument was protected by packaging during transport. Its capacity to handle normal loads during transport is assured by a test according to DIN EN 24180.
The packaging of standard instruments consists of environ-
ment-friendly, recyclable cardboard. For special versions, PE foam or PE foil is also used. Dispose of the packaging material via specialised recycling companies.
Transport must be carried out under consideration of the notes on the transport packaging. Nonobservance of these instructions can cause damage to the device.
The delivery must be checked for completeness and possible transit damage immediately at receipt. Ascertained transit damage or concealed defects must be appropriately dealt with.
Up to the time of installation, the packages must be left closed and stored according to the orientation and storage markings on the outside.
Unless otherwise indicated, the packages must be stored only under the following conditions:

4 Mounting

4.1 Safety ins
tructions
Always keep in mind the following safety instructions:
l Never carry the ball valve tting PASVE by
means of the
handle. The handle is only plugged in
l Dismount the ball valve tting PASVE only in unpressurized
condition or emptied vessel
l Unscrew the pressure transmitter only in position "Service"

4.2 General instructions

Make sure that the wetted parts of the instrument, especially the seal and process tting, are suitable for the existing process conditions such as pressure, temperature etc. as well as the chemical properties of the medium.
You can nd the specications in chapter "Technical data".
Danger:
Instruments in the version "Oil and grease free for oxygen" should be unpacked just before mounting. After the protective cover of the process tting has been removed, the label "O" on the process tting is visible. Contamination by oil, grease and dirt should be avoided. Danger of explosion!

4.3 Mounting instructions

The "Standard version" is mounted vertically, the ventilation/ dehydration points downward. The movement of the swivelling and locking level is also vertical.
The "version with rinsing air connection" is mounted horizontally. The rinsing opening as well as the movement of the swivelling and locking lever are also horizontal.

1 Remove cover
2 Attach the handle and unlock the catch by 3½ turns to the
left
3 Hold the ring and bring ball valve with handle into position
"Service", catch snaps in
4 Unscrew the pressure transmitter
5 Turn handle 3½ turns to the right so that the catch is locked
again
The dismounting of the pressure transmitter is hence nished.
The reinstallation is carried out as described in chapter
"Mouting the pressure transmitter".
Danger:
Never bring the ball valve into position "Operation" without having the pressure transmitter mounted. Medium can escape and cause damage to property or injury to persons.

4.7 Cleaning

Proceed as follows:
1 Remove cover
2 Attach the handle and unlock the catch by 3½ turns to the

5 Maintenance and fault rectication

5.1 Maintenance

When
used in the correct way, no special maintenance is
required in normal operation.

5.2 Remove interferences

The operator of the system is responsible for taken suitable measures to remove interferences.
However, should these measures not be successful, call the VEGA service hotline in urgent cases under the phone no. +49
1805 858550.
The hotline is available to you 7 days a week round-the-clock. Since we oer this service world-wide, the support is only
available in the English language. The service is free of charge, only the standard telephone costs will be charged.
Depending on the failure reason and measures taken, the steps described in chapter "Set up" must be carried out again, if necessary.

5.3 Exchange seals

The standard version has 3 seals, the version with rinsing air connection 2.
To exchange the seals, proceed as follows:
1 Empty vessel or depressurize the system, if necessary,
clean the measuring site
2 Bring ball valve tting PASVE in position "Service"
3 Dismount pressure transmitter
4 Loosen the hexagon screws on the ball valve with wrench
size 10
5 Loosen the catch and remove the bearing seats
6 Remove the ball out of the ball socket
7 Remove old seal from the grooves with a thin screwdriver.
The seal will be damaged in the process and cannot be used again.
Caution:
The metal in the ball socket must not be damaged.

8 Clean ball socket and grooves carefully
9 Insert the lower seal (smallest) into the groove, the shorter
face on top
10 Use your nger to push the seals as deep as possible into
the groove, then press them into the nal position by using a soft piece of wood (steadily pressing)
Caution:
The seal must not be damaged
11 Apply the other seals accordingly. Then check the seals
visually. They must be placed evenly in their grooves and must not be damaged.
12 Grease the ball socket with Vaseline
13 Assemble the tting again, tighten hexagon screws with a
max. torque of 60 Nm
14 Check the ball for tight movement. At rst, the ball can only
be moved with a longer lever in mounted condition or when held in a bench vice.
Only use suitable seal rings (standard: PTFE with carbon and graphite; alternative: PTFE). Make sure that the seal rings are not damaged. Damaged rings will cause leakage.
