Pen-Ray Power Supplies
PS-1, PS-2, PS-3, PS-4, PS-9 and PS-11
Operating Instructions
WARNING
Please read operating instructions before turning unit on.
INTRODUCTION
The Pen-Ray Power Supplies are made specifically for the Pen-Ray Lamps.
These power supplies provide proper voltage and current for starting and operat-
ing the lamps. Mating recommendations are available to provide optimum energy
output from and maximum life span of the Pen-Ray lamps.
DESIGN
Each power supply is designed to be maintenance free. There is an internal
circuit protection fuse which is designed to prevent mains circuit shut down in the
unlikely case of a catastrophic internal failure. The connector must be used with
the mating connector supplied with the Pen-Ray lamps. The connector is certified
to UL and CE compliance for use with this power supply. The power supply carries
the CE, ETL and ETLc marks.
WARNINGS
• Never handle the connector when the unit is in position as a hazardous shock
condition will exist.
• Do not attempt to operate lamps with operating voltages greater than 300 volts
continuously. Starting voltages do not apply.
• If the equipment is used in a manner not specified by UVP, LLC, the protection
provided by the equipment may be impaired.
Unit may become HOT during continuous use.
If internal circuit protection fuse blows, the unit should be returned to the factory for
service. The internal protection fuse is designed to trip if the primary coil short
circuits for any reason, protecting the user and the circuit it is plugged into. The unit
may be cleaned with any mild cleaning agent. Although the powder coated finish is
extremely durable, avoid acids and caustic substances. Do not use solvent cleaners
on plastic end caps.
ENVIRONMENT AL CONDITIONS
• For indoor use only
• Temperature: 5 to 40OC
• Maximum or Relative Humidity: 80% for temperatures up to 31OC decreasing
linearly to 50% relative humidity at 40OC
• Mains supply voltage fluctuations not to exceed +10% of the nominal voltage
• Installation is category II
• Pollution degree is 2
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
The operation of the PS series power supply is as follows:
1. Make sure the switch is in the off position.
2. Connect the Pen-Ray lamp to the connector making sure the connector is
completely inserted into its mating part.
3. Plug the unit into proper mains power supply.
4. Turn on the unit and the lamp should immediately light up.
5. Always unplug the unit when disconnecting or connecting the lamp.
MAINTENANCE
Keep the connector clean and free from debris, oil, fluids, etc. If the cord should
become frayed or cracked, it should be replaced immediately. Call UVP for
replacement service.
If connector arcing should occur due to dirt in the connector or attempting to
operate a Pen-Ray lamp which operates in excess of 300volts, do not continue
operation. The unit should be returned to the factory for repair. (Cleaning the
carbonized area between the connector pins may restore function to the power
supply).
