ChildSafety
•Destroycarton,plasticbags,andanyexteriorwrappingmaterialimmediately aftertherefrigeratorisunpacked.Childrenshouldneverusetheseitemsfor play.Cartonscoveredwithrugs,bedspreads,plasticsheetsorstretchwrapmay becomeairtightchambersandcanquicklycausesuffocation.
•Removeallstaplesfromthecarton.Staplescancauseseverecutsanddestroy finishesiftheycomeincontactwithotherappliancesorfurniture.
•Anempty,discardedicebox,refrigeratororfreezerisaverydangerous attractiontochildren. Removethedoorofanyappliancethatisnotinuse, evenifitisbeingdiscarded.
ElectricalInformation
Theseguidelines mustbefollowedtoensurethatsafetymechanismsinthe designofthisrefrigeratorwilloperateproperly.
•The refrigerator must be plugged into its own 115 Volt, 60 Hz, AC only electricaloutlet.Thepowercordoftheapplianceisequippedwitha3-prong groundingplugforyourprotectionagainstshockhazards.Itmustbeplugged directlyintoaproperlygrounded3-prongreceptacle.Thereceptaclemustbe installedinaccordancewithlocalcodesandordinances.Consultaqualified electrician. DO NOT USE AN EXTENSION CORD OR AN ADAPTER PLUG.
•Ifvoltagevariesby10percent ormore,performanceofyourrefrigeratormay beaffected.Operatingtherefrigeratorwithinsufficientpowercandamagethe compressor.Suchdamageisnotcoveredunderyourwarranty.Ifyoususpect yourvoltageishighorlow,consultyourpowercompanyfortesting.
•Topreventtherefrigeratorfrombeingturnedoffaccidentally,donotplugthe unitintoanoutletcontrolledbyawallswitchorpullcord.
•Donotpinch,knot,orbendthepowercordinanymanner.
Other Precautions
•Neverunplugtherefrigeratorbypullingonthepowercord.Alwaysgripthe plugfirmlyandpullstraightoutfromthereceptacle.
•Toavoidelectricalshock,unplugtherefrigeratorbeforecleaningandbefore replacingalightbulb.Note:TurningthecontroltoOFFturnsoffthecompressor, butdoesnotdisconnectpowertothelightbulborotherelectricalcomponents.

Beforestartingtherefrigerator,followtheseimportantfirststeps:
Location
•Choose aplace that isnear agrounded electrical outlet. DONOTuse an extensioncordoranadapterplug.
•Ifpossible,placetherefrigeratoroutofdirectsunlightandawayfromtherange, dishwasherorotherheatsources.
•Therefrigeratormustbeinstalledonafloorthatislevelandstrongenough tosupportafullyloadedrefrigerator.
•Considerwatersupplyavailabilityformodelsequippedwithanautomaticice maker.
Installation
•Donotinstalltherefrigeratorwherethetemperaturewilldropbelow60°F (15°C)orriseabove110°F(43°C).Thecompressorwillnotbeabletomaintain propertemperatures.
•Allowspacearoundtheunitforgoodaircirculation.Leavea1inch(25mm) spacebehindanda3inch(75mm)spaceabovetherefrigeratorforadequate circulation.
•Inarecessedinstallation,allowanextra1/2inch(10-15mm)oneachsidefor easeofinstallation.
•Forbestcirculation,elevatetheunit1inch(25mm)fromthefloor,especially iftheflooriscarpeted.
Door Opening
Thedoorsshouldopentoalloweasyaccesstoacounterwhenremovingfood.
•Donotpositiontherefrigeratorsoyouhavetowalkaroundtherefrigerator doors.
•Reversethedoorsifnecessary.See"ReversibleDoorInstructions."
Leveling
Allfourcornersofrefrigeratormustrestfirmlyonasolidfloor. Somemodelsare equippedwithadjustablescrew-typelevelers. Othersareequippedwithrollers. If yourrefrigeratordidnotcomewithrollers,theycanbepurchasedfromyourdealer.
•Toadjustscrew-typelevelers(somemodels):Tipthecabinetbackslightly, andraiseadjustingboltsasneeded.
•Toadjustthefrontrollers(somemodels): Useascrewdriver,3/8"socket wrench,ornutdrivertoadjustrollersasshown.
RAISE THE FRONT of cabinet enough so doors will close freely when opened halfway. Levelcabinetsidetoside.
Cleaning
•Washtheinside,allremovablepartsandtheoutsidewithmilddetergentand warm water. Wipe dry. DO NOT USE HARSH CLEANERS ON THESE
SURFACES.
•Donotuserazorbladesorothersharpinstrumentswhichcanscratchthe appliancesurface,whenremovingadhesivelabels.Anyglueleftfromthetape or energy label can be removed with a mixture of warm water and mild detergent,or,touchtheresiduewiththestickysideoftapealreadyremoved.
•DO NOT REMOVE THE SERIAL PLATE.

Energy Saving Ideas
•Locatetherefrigeratorinthecoolestpartoftheroom,outofdirectsunlightand awayfromheatingductsorregisters.Donotplacetherefrigeratornexttoheatproducingappliancessuchasarange,ovenordishwasher.Ifthisisnotpossible, a section of cabinetry or an added layer of insulation between the two applianceswillhelptherefrigeratoroperatemoreefficiently.
•Leveltherefrigeratorsothedoorsclosetightly.
•RefertothisOwner'sGuideforthesuggestedrefrigeratorsettings.
•Periodiccleaningofthecondenserwillhelptherefrigeratorrunmore efficiently.SeeOutsideinthe"CareandCleaning"section.
•Donotovercrowdtherefrigeratororblockcoldairvents.Doingsocausesthe refrigeratortorunlongerandusemoreenergy.Shelvesshouldnotbelinedwith aluminumfoil,waxpaperorpapertoweling.Linersinterferewithcoldair circulation,makingtherefrigeratorlessefficient,whichcouldcausefood spoilage.
•Coverfoodsandwipecontainersdrybeforeplacingthemintherefrigerator. Thiscutsdownonmoisturebuild-upinsidetheunit.
•Organizetherefrigeratortoreducedooropenings.Removeasmanyitemsas neededatonetimeandclosethedoorassoonaspossible.

Cool Down Period
Toensuresafefoodstorage,allowtherefrigeratortooperatewiththedoorsclosed foratleast8to12hoursbeforeloadingwithfood.
RefrigeratorandFreezerControls
•Tostartout,setcontroldialstothemidpointforatrialperiodof24hours.
Temperatures
•After24hours,adjustthecontrolsasneeded.Adjusttemperaturesone numberatatime.Forcoldertemperatures,turnthedialtowardCOLDEST. Forwarmertemperatures,turnthedialtowardCOLD.Thetemperaturewill increaseordecrease,butnotnecessarilyby1,2,or3degrees.
Anadjustmentmadetoonecompartmentmayrequireanadjustmenttotheother.
•TurningtherefrigeratorcontrolwillchangethetemperatureinBOTH compartments.IftherefrigeratorcontrolisturnedtoOFF,cooling stops in both compartments.
•Turningthefreezercontrolwillchangeonlythetemperatureinthefreezer compartment.
Tomaintaintemperatures,afancirculatesairintherefrigeratorandfreezer compartments.Forgoodcirculation,donotblockcoldairventswithfooditems.
Energy Saver Switch (some models)
IfyourrefrigeratorisequippedwithanEnergySaverSwitch,keepitsetonENERGY

Somerefrigeratorshelvesareeasilyadjustabletosuitindividualneeds.Somemodels haveslidingshelves,othershavecantilevershelves,orboth.Beforeadjustingshelves, removeallfood.Theshippingclips,whichstabilizetheshelvesforshipping,maybe removedanddiscarded.
Adjustments:
Toadjustslidingshelves,removebypullingforwardtothestopposition,thenliftthe frontedgeupandpullout.Replaceonanypairofrailsbyreversingthisprocedure.

Toadjustcombinationcantilever/slidingshelves,removeshelfbyliftinghooksupand outofrearwallbracket.Thenflexplasticcliptowardscenterofrefrigeratorandpull shelfstraightout.Replaceshelfbyslidingplasticclippastsidewallsupport.Then lockhooksatrearintowallbracket.Note:Plasticclipwillautomaticallyfitsecure againstsidewall.
Door Storage
Doorshelvesareprovidedforconvenientstorageofjars,bottles,andcans.Items usedoftenareavailableforquickselection.
Thedairycompartmentiswarmerthanthegeneralfoodstoragesectionandis intendedforshorttermstorageofcheese,spreads,orbutter.
Somemodelshaveadjustabledoorbinswhichcanbemovedtosuitindividualneeds.
Tomovethebins,removebyliftingstraightup.Placethebininthedesiredposition
andloweroversupports.
Crispers (somemodels)
Thecrispers,locatedunderthebottomrefrigeratorshelf,aredesignedforstoring fruits,vegetables,andotherfreshproduce.Washitemsinclearwaterandremove excesswaterbeforeplacinginthecrispers.Itemswithstrongodorsorhighmoisture shouldbewrappedbeforestoring.
Deli Drawer (some models)
Somemodelsareequippedwithadelidrawerforstorageofluncheonmeats, spreads,cheeses,andotherdeliitems.
Trivet(somemodels)
Somemodelsareequippedwithatrivet,whichallowseasyaccesstomeatpackages andotheritems.
Meat Keeper (some models)
The temperature in the Meat Keeper can be made colder than the rest of the refrigeratorcompartmentbyusingtheadjustableairflowcontrol.Foodscanbe partiallyfrozenandkeptfreshlongerthanifstoredonarefrigeratorshelf.Before placingfoodintheMeatKeeper,followthesesteps:
1.Carefullyhandlefooditemswithcleanhandsandalwayskeepdrawerclean.
2.Storemeatorfishintheoriginalwrapper.Ifnecessary,overwrapinplasticwrap orfoiltopreventdrying.
3.Iffoodspoilageoccurs,disinfectthedrawerwithliquidchlorinebleachfollowing labeldirections.Washwithasolutionofbakingsodaandwater.Rinsewithwater anddry.
