Keys (without engine immobiliser system)
Your vehicle is supplied with two kinds of keys.
1. Master key—This key works in every lock.
2. Sub key—This key will not work in the glove box.
To protect things locked in the glove box when you have your vehicle parked, leave the sub key with the attendant.
Since the front doors and sliding doors can be locked without a key, you should always carry a spare master key in case you accidentally lock your keys inside the vehic le.
KEY NUMBER PLATE Your key number is shown on the plate.
Keep the plate in a safe place such as your wallet, not in the vehicle.
If you should lose your keys or if you need additional keys, duplicates can be made by a Toyota dealer using the key number.
We recommend you to write down the key number and keep it in safe place.
Keys (with engine immobiliser system)
Your vehicle is supplied with two kinds of keys.
1. Master key (black)—This key works in every lock. Your Toyota dealer will need it to make you a new key with built−in transponder chip.
2. Sub key (gray)—This key will not work in the glove box.
A transponder chip for engine immobiliser system has been filled in the head of the master and sub keys. These chips are needed to enable the system to function correctly, so be careful not to lose these keys. If you make your own duplicate key, you will not be able to cancel the system or start the engine.

03 SIENNA_U (L/O 0207)
NOTICE
When using a key containing a transponder chip, observe the following precautions:
z When starting the engine, do not
use the key with a key ring resting on the key grip and do not press the key ring against the key grip. Otherwise the engine may not start, or may stop soon after it starts.
2003 MY SIENNA (OM45410U)
z When starting the engine, do not
use the key with other transponder keys around (including keys of other vehicles) and do not press other key plates against the key grip. Otherwise the engine may not start, or may stop soon after it starts. If this happens, remove the key once and then insert it again after taking off other transponder keys (including keys of other vehicles) from the ring or while gripping or covering them with your hand to start the engine.
11
z Do not bend the key grip.
03 SIENNA_U (L/O 0207)
z Do not cover the key grip with any
material that cuts off electromagnetic waves.
z Do not knock the key hard against
other objects.
z Do not leave the key exposed to
high temperatures for a long period, such as on the dashboard and hood under the direct sunlight.
z Do not put the key in water or
wash it in an ultrasonic washer.
z Do not use the key with electromag-
netic materials.

Engine immobiliser system
The engine immobiliser system is a theft prevention system. When you insert the key in the ignition switch, the transponder chip in the key’s head transmits an electronic code to the vehicle. The engine will start, only when the electronic code in the chip corresponds to the registered ID code for the vehicle.
03 SIENNA_U (L/O 0207)
The system is automatically set when the key is removed from the ignition switch. The indicator light will start flashing to show the system is set.
If any of the following indicator conditions occurs, contact your Toyota dealer.
The indicator light stays on except
when the theft deterrent system is setting or activating. (See “Theft deterrent system” in this section.)
The indicator light does not start flash-
ing when the key is removed from the ignition switch.
The indicator light flashes unsteady.
Inserting the registered key in the ignition switch automatically cancels the system, which enables the engine to start. The indicator light will go off.
For your Toyota dealer to make you a new key with built−in transponder chip, your dealer will need your key number and master key. However, there is a limit to the number of additional keys your Toyota dealer can make for you.
If you make your own duplicate key, you will not be able to cancel the system or start the engine.
NOTICE
Do not modify, remove or disassemble the engine immobiliser system. If any unauthorized changes or modifications are made, the proper operation of the system cannot be guaranteed.

When the vehicle is stopped on a
gradient, the door will slide faster when opening or closing, so be especially careful that the passengers do not get hit or pinched by the door.
When stopping on a downward
slope, open the door fully while passengers are getting on or off. Do not pull the outside handle or push the lock release button while the door is open as the door could suddenly close by itself causing injury.
NOTICE
Do not close the sliding door by applying the brakes. Doing so could cause the door to be damaged.

SLIDING DOOR CHILD−PROTECTORS Open the sliding door fully and move
the lock lever to the “LOCK” position as shown on the label. Then close the sliding door.
If the child−protector is locked, you cannot open the sliding door from the inside. We recommend using this feature whenever small children are in the vehicle.
Vehicles with power sliding door system— If the power sliding door system is on, the child−protector feature is cancelled when someone pushes one of the “DOOR L”, “DOOR R” and “PWR DOOR” switches inside the vehicle or “POWER DOOR”, “D−PWR DOOR” and “P−PWR DOOR” switches of the wireless remote control transmitter. (See “Power sliding door” in this section.)
CAUTION
Make sure to turn off the power sliding door system after locking the child−protectors.

Power sliding door
Some vehicles are equipped with a power sliding door. This system has the following functions:
The power sliding door can be oper-
ated with the “DOOR L”, “DOOR R” and “PWR DOOR” switches inside the vehicle or “POWER DOOR”, “D−PWR DOOR” and “P−PWR DOOR” switches of the wireless remote control transmitter. (For details about the wireless remote control transmitter, see “Wireless remote control” in this section.)
If you move the sliding door to the
opening or closing direction by hand, the sliding door will automatically and completely open or close after you let go of the sliding door.
CAUTION
Do not leave small children or pets unattended in your vehicle. They could operate the power sliding door, and they themselves or others could be injured. Turn off the power sliding door system when the power sliding door is not in use.
03 SIENNA_U (L/O 0207)
“PWR DOOR OFF” SWITCH This switch is used to turn on and off
the power sliding door system. For operating the power sliding door, the “PWR DOOR OFF” switch on the instrument panel must be pushed out. (The orange line on the top of the switch indicates that the system is on.) To disable the power sliding door feature, push in the switch.
When the power sliding door system is on, you can open and close the sliding door with the “DOOR L”, “DOOR R” and “PWR DOOR” switches inside the vehicle or “POWER DOOR”, “D−PWR DOOR” and “P−PWR DOOR” switches of the wireless remote control transmitter even if the sliding door child−protector is locked. If small children or pets are in the vehicle, turn off the system to prevent the accidental operation of the door.
CAUTION
When jacking up the vehicle, turn off the power sliding door system and close the sliding door completely.
NOTICE
When your vehicle goes through an automatic car wash, make sure the power sliding door system is off.

JAM PROTECTION FUNCTION
If anything with sufficient resistance obstructs the power sliding door while it is closing or opening, the sliding door will automatically reverse to the opposite direction. However, if the power sliding door is between the fully−closed and half− opened positions while it is opening, the door will stop at that position.
Before operating the power sliding door, make sure there is nobody near the sliding door. Make sure the sliding door stops at the fully−opened position, and then allow the passengers to get on and off the vehic le.
The resistance must be as strong as the force of the moving door, or stronger. As the sliding door approaches the fully− closed or fully−opened position, its moving force increases significantly.
If the sliding door receives a strong impact, this function may work even if nothing is caught.
CAUTION
Power sliding door could injure people if they are caught in the door path. When using the power sliding door, observe the following:
Never try jamming any part of your
body to make the jam protection function work intentionally.
The jam protection function may
not work if something gets caught just before the sliding door is fully closed.
Before you close the power sliding
door, always make sure there is nobody around the power sliding door. You must also make sure the heads, hands and other parts of the bodies of all occupants are kept completely inside the vehicle. If someone’s neck, head or hands get caught in a closing door, it could result in a serious injury. When anyone closes the power sliding door, make sure he or she operates the door safely.
NOTICE
Objects caught in the path of the sliding door may be damaged. Make sure there is nothing in the doorway before closing the sliding door.
22

03 SIENNA_U (L/O 0207)
CAUTION
When the vehicle is stopped on a downward slope of a steep grade (17% or more), the sliding door may not stay in the fully−opened position and could suddenly close by itself, possibly resulting a personal injury. Making sure the sliding door does not close abruptly, turn on the power sliding door system. Then the sliding door will operate under the control of the electric power.
RESETTING THE POWER SLIDING DOOR SYSTEM
If the power sliding door system operates incorrectly or does not operate under the following conditions, the system must be initialized and reset by the steps in the next column.
The battery is disconnected and then
reconnected, or a discharged battery is rechar ged.
In this case, initialize and reset the system by doing the following steps from 6 to 10.
The open power sliding door warning
light stays on though the sliding door is closed.
In this case, initialize and reset the system by doing the following steps from 1 to 10.

Unlocking operation
2003 MY SIENNA (OM45410U)
The wireless remote control system is designed to lock or unlock all the doors from a distance within approximately 1 m (3 ft.) of the vehicle. On some models, the system also allows you to activate the theft deterrent system from the same distance.
LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE DOORS
To lock and unlock all the doors, push the switches of the transmitter slowly and securely.
To lock: Push the “LOCK” switch. All the doors are locked simultaneously. At this time one beep will be heard, parking lights, side marker lights, tail lights and other exterior lights will flash once.
Left and right side power sliding door models—If the “LOCK” switch is kept pressed in, the panic mode will work. (For details, see “PANIC (LOCK)” SWITCH.)
Check to see that the doors are securely lock ed.
If any of the doors is not securely closed, or if the key is in the ignition switch, locking cannot be performed by the “LOCK” switch and a beep will sound continuously for 10 seconds. However, if the key is in the ignition, a beep will not sound.

To stop the beep, close all the doors securely or push the “UNLOCK” switch.
To unlock: Push the “UNLOCK” switch once to unlock only the driver’s door. Pushing the switch twice within 3 seconds unlocks all the doors simultaneously. Each time the “UNLOCK” switch is pushed, two beeps will be heard, and the parking lights, side marker lights and tail lights will flash twice.
When the “UNLOCK” switch is pressed, the personal lights, interior lights and/or ignition key light come on. The lights remains on for about 15 seconds unless any of the doors are opened then and closed. (For further information, see “Personal lights”, “Interior light” and/or “Ignition switch light” in Section 1−4.)
You have 30 seconds to open a door after using the wireless remote unlock feature. If a door is not opened by then, all the doors will automatically lock again.
If the “LOCK” or “UNLOCK” switch is kept pressed in, the locking or unlocking operation is not repeated. Release the button and then push again.
SWITCHING BEEP SOUND ON AND OFF
You can switch the beep on and off. (The beep is on initially and after battery replacement .)
To switch the beep on and off: With the driver’s door opened—
1. Insert the ignition key and remove it.
2. Within 5 seconds, insert the ignition key again and turn it to the “ON” position.
3. After 10 seconds, push the same “LOCK”, “UNLOCK” or “PANIC” button twice within 10 seconds. Two beep sounds inform you that the program has been switched on or off.
If this procedure is not followed exactly, the beep will not operate as expected.
Check the beep on and off operation by pushing the wireless remote control transmitter switch after you finish this procedure. If the beep does not operate as expected, repeat this procedure from step
