GIVEN IN THIS OWNER’S MANUAL AND THOSE MARKED ON THE UNIT. RETAIN THIS BOOKLET FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
This set has been designed and manufactured to assure personal safety. Improper use can result in unit’s overheating or fire hazard. The safeguards incorporated in this unit will protect you if you observe the following procedures for installation, use and servicing. This unit is fully transistorized and does not contain any parts that can be repaired by the user.
1. Read owner’s manual
After unpacking this product, read the owner’s manual carefully, and follow all operating and related instructions.
2. Power Sources
This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the label. Of you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your product dealer or local power company. For products intended to be operated by battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions.
3. Heat
The product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products that produce heat.
4. Water and Moisture
Do not use this product near water - for example, near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub; in a wet basement; or near a swimming pool and the like.
5. Cleaning
Remove all cables from this product and turn off the battery switch before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a soft cloth for cleaning.
6. Power-Cord Protection
Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the product.
7. Overloading
Do not overload wall outlets; extension cords, or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.

8. Lightning
For added protection for this product during an electrical storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and power-line surges.
9. Object and Liquid Entry
Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings as they may touch electrical parts and could result in a fire or the units overheating. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.
10. Attachments
Do not use attachments not recommended by the product manufacturer as they may cause hazards.
11. Burden
Do not place a heavy object on, or step on the product. Doing so may cause serious damage to the product.
12. Headphones
When you use headphones, keep the volume at a moderate level. If you use the headphones continuously with high volume sound, it may cause hearing damage.

13. Damage Requiring Service
Remove all cables from this product and turn off the battery switch. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions:
a) If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product.
b) If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
c) If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions:
Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the product to its normal operation.
d) If the product has been dropped or damaged in any way.
e) When the product exhibits a distinct change in performance - this indicates a need
for service.
14. Supplied AC Adapter
Use the supplied AC adapter to operate the product. Substitute devices not specified by the manufacturer may result in fire or product malfunction. Do not cover the AC adapter with a blanket or place it near a heating duct, or on electric blanket when it is in use.
15. LCD
When the LCD panel is broken and the liquid leaks out, do not touch the liquid as it may cause a rash. If your hands or clothes touches the liquid, immediately wash it off.
16. Built-in Battery
a) Do not heat or throw the product into fire or water. Doing so may cause the built-in
battery to rupture, ignite or heat up, resulting in fire or serious injury.
b) If you notice a liquid leakage or strange odor coming from the built-in battery,
remove the player from any source of flame. The leaked liquid may ignite resulting in rupture of the battery.
c) Do not touch the internal battery fluid if leakage occurs. If battery fluid enters the
eyes or comes in contact with the skin, they may be injured. If it enters the eyes, immediately rinse with fresh water then consult a doctor. If it comes in contact with the skin or clothes, immediately rinse with fresh water.
17. Type II PC Card HDD
a) Do not disassemble, modify or repair. Disassembly, modification or repair may
cause fire, electric shock, injury, failure, or loss of stored data. Disassembling, modifying or repairing the drive will void your product warranty.
b) Do not touch the drive during or immediately after use when it is connected to a
personal computer, or other device. Touching the drive may result in burns from high temperatures that are generated after prolonged use. Be careful when removing the drive from device that is currently being used. Although the drive gets hot during normal operation, this is not a defect.
c) If the drive emits an unusual smell, or unusual sound, is overheated, or generates
smoke, turn off the power immediately and disconnect the power plug from the outlet. Continued use of the drive under any of the above conditions may cause fire or electric shock. If this occurs, contact your TOSHIBA retailer to request a service inspection.
d) Do not leave open liquid-filled containers near the drive. Any spilled liquid entering
the drive may cause electric shock. If liquid enters the drive, turn off the power and disconnect the power plug from the outlet. Contact your TOSHIBA retailer and request a service inspection.

18. Restriction
Do not use this product if a permanent medical instrument such as a pacemaker has been installed in your body, or if you are in a location where use of electronic instruments is restricted, such as an aircraft cabin.
19. Children’s misuse
Do not put this product or HDD Card in your mouth. Keep this product out of reach of children.

20. Traffic
Do not use this product while driving. Do not operate this product while walking. You may become distracted and cause a traffic accident.
21. Servicing
Do not attempt to service this product yourself. Opening or removing covers may expose you to high temperature or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
22. Replacement Parts
When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, unit overheating, or other hazards.
23. Safety Check
Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the product is in proper working order.

Features of this Player
Can play compressed audio data in MP3, WMA, or WAV format.
With the 5 GB HDD Card, allows you to save and carry
approximately 1000* songs (audio data files). (Assuming average 5-minute length, 128 Kbps audio data saved in individual files in MP3 or WMA format)
Supports USB 2.0 high-speed 480 Mbps data rate permitting you to transfer all audio data of a standard CD to the HDD Card in approximately 30* seconds.
A built-in advanced lithium-ion rechargeable battery permits 18*-hour (approx.) continuous playback. (Assuming playback of 44.1 kHz, 128 Kbps audio data in WMA format at room temperature (25°C), with the backlight off, with audio volume set to the medium level, and the battery has been charged until the charge indicator has turned green.)
Is equipped with a backlight LCD so that you can also easily recognize music titles and related information in the dark.
Allows you to select on-screen displays from five languages, English, French, Spanish, German, and Japanese.

Using Your Player Correctly
Handling the Player
Do not subject the player to strong impact; the player may be broken and/or the recorded data may be destroyed.
Do not apply an excessive force to the display of the product; the display may be damaged.
Do not expose the player to insecticide or other volatile liquids. Also player contact with rubber or vinyl products for a long period of time. Neglecting these may result in discoloration or deterioration of the finish.
Do not place the product in pants pockets. When you sit down, the product may be broken.
About Problems Regarding the Locations
Using this player near a radio, TV, or cellular phone may cause interference. If this happens, operate this player at sufficient distances from these devices.
Operating the unit at high volume in a public location may annoy people around you.

Condensation
A sudden change in temperature, such as when you move the player from a cold location to a warm one, may result in condensation (water droplets) forming on the inside of the player.
When this occurs, switch the player off, and wait an hour before using the player. If condensation forms on the HDD Card, remove the HDD Card, wipe off any condensation and wait a short time before using it again.
Cleaning the Player
Wipe away dirt on the player with a soft cloth.
If dirt is heavy, first use a cloth soaked in diluted neutral detergent and wringed out. Then use a dry cloth to finish. Never use benzene or paint thinner, as discoloration and/or finish deterioration may occur.
If you want to use a chemical cleaning cloth, follow the instructions provided.
About the Recorded Audio Data
Audio data damaged or erased through malfunction of this product or your personal computer cannot be restored.
Because audio data saved to the HDD Card has been encrypted for copyright protection, it cannot be played back using a device other than MOBILPHILE.
The encrypted audio data in the HDD Card is not decoded when it is copied to a personal computer.
Copy protection protocols do not permit audio data from one HDD Card to be copied to another HDD Card.

Copyright
You must not use audio data that you have recorded, for reasons other than your personal enjoyment, without the permission of the copyright holder as per copyright laws.
About the Built-in Battery
The built-in battery discharges gradually when the player is not in use. After leaving the player for an extended period of time, you may find that the battery has become completely discharged. If this happens, recharge the battery prior to use.
Actual recharging time may differ depending on battery condition and ambient temperature.
At room temperature (25°C), and using the supplied AC adapter, recharging is complete in about 3 and half hours*.
* This value is for reference only, it is not guaranteed.
Playback time is reduced when the player is operated at low temperature.
The built-in battery can be recharged up to 500 times (approx.). (Actual recharges may
differ depending on conditions and environment under which the product is used.)
If the operation time diminishes, the battery may have deteriorated. Replace the battery with a new one.
For battery replacement, consult the store of purchase.
Toshiba Corporation is not liable for data damage or loss caused by product
malfunction, repair, or complete discharge of the built-in battery.
About the Disposing of the Built-in Battery
An advanced lithium-ion rechargeable battery has been used as the built-in battery. An advanced lithium-ion rechargeable battery is recyclable valuable resource. When you dispose of this player, remove the battery, and please recycle according to the local regulations.
Do not disassemble the unit, except to dispose of the battery.
See page 36 on how to remove the battery.
