Thiel CS-2.3 Brochure

CS2.3
The THIEL CS2.3 reflects our highest standards for sonic reproduction, regardless of price or class.

principles used in larger and more expensive THIEL models, but does so at a lower price and in a moderately sized cabinet. The CS2.3 employs a 1-inch metal dome tweeter coaxially mounted with a 3.5-inch midrange driver, and an 8-inch metal diaphragm woofer, with a passive radiator.
THIEL’s unique design provides greater realism
The CS2.3’s outstanding performance is achieved in part by THIEL’s Coherent Source design technology which preserves the music’s time and phase information for much greater realism. Phase correct crossover design and time correct driver mounting provide natural three-dimensional imaging and greater clarity. The CS2.3’s high performance also results from our extremely thorough engineering, rugged construction, and use of unusually high quality components.

lower distortion.
Tweeter/Midrange Driver
The CS2.3’s most innovative design feature is a coaxial tweeter/midrange driver where the two
drivers share the coil. The drivers incorporate a mechanical crossover to direct the correct frequencies to each diaphragm, eliminating the need for the high frequency section of the electrical network. The coaxial mounting results in improved imaging and clarity, regardless of listener postion.

Woofer
The 8-inch woofer uses a very low distortion short coil/long gap motor system, damped by a 2.5 pound magnet. The rigid aluminum diaphragm eliminates
resonance coloration, a special copper pole sleeve reduces inductance distortion, and a heavy copper ring maintains an ultrastable magnetic field. In combination with the bass radiator, the woofer produces exceptionally clean bass down to 35Hz.
The Thiel CS2.3 is a superb loudspeaker, and an eloquent
testimonial to Jim Thiel’s design expertise and his
company’s manufacturing skills…I recommend it highly.

Electrical crossover
The CS2.3 electrical crossover provides completely phase accurate transitions between drivers to
preserve the recording’s spatial information. The network utilizes polypropylene and custom-made polystyrene capacitors, and low-oxygen copper, air-core inductors for very low distortion.
