Using the operating instructions
Before connecting the receiver,please read the safety notes in chapter 3.
Chapters 4 and 5 describe the connection procedure and the adapting of
the receiver to the outdoor unit (dish,LNB, ...), to the TV, etc. These settings
only need to be carried out once,and further adjustments only need to be
made if anything on the outdoor unit is changed or if additional units.e.g.
decoders, are connected.
Chapter 6 describes all the functions which are important for everyday use,
e.g. selection of program or adjustment of volume.
Chapter 7 contains information on how to set new programs or how to
change the sequence of programs.
Chapter 8 contains - among other information - the lists of the pre-set programs.
Technical terms which are used in the operating instructions are explained
in chapter 9.
Important notes regarding operation
Thanks to the use of an „On screen display“,the receiver is easier to use and
there are fewer remote control keys.All the functions are displayed on the
screen and can be activated by using only a few keys.
Functions which belong together are combined as a „menu“.
A cursor shows which functions can be activated.

MENÜ
For your own safety you should read the safety instructions carefully before
putting your new unit into operation.
The manufacturer can accept no r esponsibility f or damage which is caused
by improper operation and by failure to pay attention to the safety precautions.
Please ensure that the flat batteries are not placed in household refuse but
are disposed of correctly (returned to the place of purchase,special refuse
disposal,etc.).
No use has been made of styropor packing because of en vir onmental considerations.The packing material can be recycled according to the requirements of the new packing regulations.
Never open the unit because of the danger of an electrical shock. Any
repairs should only be carried out by trained personnel.
Stoppages: during storms, or if it will not be used for a longer period of time,
the unit should be disconnected from the mains.
In the following cases you should disconnect the unit from the mains and
consult a qualified maintenance engineer:
- the mains cable and/or the plug are damaged
- the unit was exposed to humidity and/or w ater or other liquids hav e penetrated it
- more than one malfunction
- considerable external damage.

4.1 Outdoor unit
a) Using a suita ble coaxial cable, connect the LNB input of the receiver to
the LNB of your reception unit.In the event that the LNB input is overloaded after switching on the unit, the message „Sh C“ is shown in the display. If there is a short circuit at the LNB input,the receiver switches off (a
ticking sound can be heard).In either case,switch off the receiv er b y disconnecting the mains plug and arrange for the cause of the fault to be
dealt with.Note also 5 „Installation“.
4.2 Television
b) Connect the receiver to a 240 V/50 Hz soc k et and switch on at the m ains
switch.
c) Connect the receiver (SCART socket TV) and the TV (SCART sock et) using
a SCART cable. If your television does not automatically switch to AV
(audio/video) operation,you must do this manually.
d) If your TV does not hav e a SCART socket,you can also connect the recei-
ver’s modulator output TV to the television’s antenna input using an
antenna cable.Insert the cable which comes from the antenna into the
modulator input ANT.
Set your TV to the receiver’s send channel. Select a free program on the
television and set it to channel 39.
If channel 39 is already being used to receive a program which you receive via antenna,you can select another send channel between 30 and 46.

tions for television)
> Set switch on rear of receiver to receive test pattern
> Using a small screwdriver, turn modulator channel (CHANNEL) on the
receiver until a picture appears

e) In order to receive the best sound quality,you can connect the receiver
to a hi-fi amplif ier.Connect cinch socket B(R)-A UDIO-(L)A on the r eceiver
to a suitable amplifier input (e.g.CD or AUX.Note: the phono input is not
suitable!).
4.4 Video-cassette recorder (VCR)
f) Connect the video recorder to the SCART socket VCR/DECODER.
When play-back starts, the video recorder sends a switch signal to the
receiver,transmitting audio and video signals to the SC ART sock et TV and to
the modulator output TV, provided the receiver is not switched off at the
mains switch.
If your video recorder does not supply any turn-on voltage, then for playback it is necessary to set the receiver to „ready“ with .The receiver must be set to AV operation when it is connected to the SCART socket.
4.5 Decoder
g) Connect the decoder to the SCART socket DECODER.
In order to adapt different types of decoders, you can switch between 6
decoder signals.

The decoder’s operating instructions will state which signal it needs, and
you should set it according to 7.3.
One program (no.317 in the case of Ger man pre-programming,see 5.1) is
especially designed for connecting the adapter (which is used particularly
in Spain) for use with a Canal-Plus decoder. By copying (see 7.1) it is possible to move this program slot as much as is required.

Calling up the installation menu
This menu can only be called up by

5.1 Language
You can choose between nine onscreen display languages.
Each language is assigned countryspecific pre-programming (see 8.3)
and a specific outdoor unit. This is
described in the table below.
However, it can also be altered individually (see 5.2 to 5.4).

5.3 Standard outdoor unit
The outdoor units which are most frequently used (dish or flat antenna +
LNB) are summarized in list 8.1. By selecting the appropriate letter you can
easily and quickly tune the receiver to your outdoor unit.
The outdoor unit E (ASTRA with 9750 MHz LNB and Eutelsat 13° East with
10000 MHz LNB) is factory set.

5.4 Special outdoor unit
5.4.1 Swapping LNB voltage 14/18 Volt
In the case of receiver units with multi-switches,the standard arrangement
of the LNB voltage and the polarisation level (14V=vertical, 18V=horizontal)
may have been swapped. In order to avoid the necessity of changing
every single program,the arrangement can easily be swapped.This swapping procedure is separately adjustable for all programs with modulation
and all programs without modulation (see 8.1).

In order to swap the LNB voltage in
the case of programs with modulation, select a program with modulation
and repeat the above setting procedure.

5.4.2 LOF setting
In order to set local oscillator frequencies (LOF) which are not provided for
in the pre-programming,or in order to compensate for the LNB’s frequency
deviations,the LOF can be altered as required by using the keys.If
this results in intermediate frequencies („1.IF“) which are outside the receiver frequency range of 920 to 2050 MHz,question marks will be displayed
instead of the intermediate frequency. Direct entering of the LOF by means

of the numerical keyboard only functions if the values are within the receiver’s frequency range.
Altering the „LOF“ applies to all programs with the same settings with regard
to the frequency range and 22 kHz modulation as the program indicated.
As a result,it is not necessary to set each program individually.
Example: - Outdoor unit E (ASTRA with 9750 MHz LNB and Eutelsat 13°
East with 10000 MHz LNB (see 8.1) is set
- Program 3, Eurosport from ASTRA is indicated
- Your LNB has an LOF of 9800 MHz
- The receiver’s LOF setting must be changed to 9800 MHz

For a period of approx.5 seconds you

5.4.3 Individual satellite combination
The receiver offers you the possibility of easily setting any required combination of 2 V/H LNBs or 4 single LNBs.There is a wide range of combination
possibilities, especially in the case of multi-feed units for receiving several
satellites. The settings available in addition to the pre-programmed outdoor
units (see 8.1) are described in the following example:
Previously you have received the ASTRA satellite with a 9750 MHz V/H-LNB.
This was the ex-factory setting (letter E) and did therefore not need to be
changed during initial installation.
In addition you now wish to receiv e the „Arte“ channel on Kopernikus.T o do
this, the outdoor unit is augmented by a 12.5 GHz single LNB and a 22 kHz
change-over switch.

As described above, you can install every satellite in your program list, or

sense if they can also be received by your outdoor unit.

6.3 Videocrypt operation
6.3.1 Normal operation

After a few seconds the uncoded picture will be displayed

- Please insert card: Ensure that the card was inserted correctly
- Please wait: The uncoded picture will appear shortly
- Your card is invalid: Please check to see if your card is damaged in
any way
- Your card is expired: You need a new decoder card
- Channel blocked: Your card cannot decode this progr am,alternatively the card is defective.
If any of the last three messages is shown,disconnect the receiver from the
mains supply for approx.one minute and try again.If this is still unsuccessful,
please contact your card distributor.
6.3.2 „Pay-per-view“
Providers of programs which use the Videocrypt encoding system are able
to encode individual programs in such a way that cards which are normally suitable do not function.Y ou need a special card in order to receiv e these
programs.The systems works in a similar way to a telephone card.The card
contains a number of pre-paid units. When such an encoded program is
being transmitted,a message will appear on the screen.

Units will then be deducted from your card,and the program is decoded.
You can cancel activation of the PPV impulse by pressing within
approx. 2 seconds; „PPU“ changes to „PPU_“.
6.2.4 Marking a program

Deleting a program:
Programs marked accordingly cannot be set using the keys
on the receiver and the keys on the remote control unit.In addition,
they do not appear in the program list (see 6.2.1) and can only be accessed by entering the program number by means of the numerical keyboard.

Programs marked with the child-proofing facility cannot be set with the
keys on the receiver.

stereo televisions,the speakers are very close together,which results in poor

The following settings make it possible to set the receiver to deal with new
programs or altered satellite settings,and also to deal with individual requirements regarding settings.
7.1 Copying a program
You can copy progr ams fr om the pre-pr ogr amming (table 1,see 8.3) or programs you have programmed yourself (free program, table F) to another
free program.

Setting TV and/or radio programs
The pre-programming determines how many radio programs and how
many TV programs are av ailable.If ,f or example,you wish to stor e additional
radio programs, copy an existing radio program to a program which was
previously occupied by a TV program, and then alter the relevant settings
(see 7.3).
Example: We are assuming that on the „Premiere“ transponder, another
radio program with the frequencies 7.74 MHz and 7.92 MHz is to
be copied in addition to the existing „N-Joy Radio“ radio pro-
gram. The new program is to be stored on program 64.

7.3 New programs
Programs which have not been taken into consideration in the pre-programming can be set by using the „Program data“ menu.
All settings,with the exception of the audio type,apply in each case to one
program only.
The procedure is explained by means of the following example:
The „Premiere“ program is to be installed in program 2.The data
are taken from table 8.3,program 29.
A V/H-LNB with 9750 MHz LOF is assumed to be the outside unit (type E,see
8.1).

7.4 Automatic frequency control (AFC)
The receiver is equipped with an automatic frequency control device
which sets the best possible reception frequency. In the case of very weak

Connecting cable between satellite receiver modulator and TV antenna
input socket as an alternative if a SCART socket is not available.
Audio bandwidth:
Separability between two subcarriers is determined by the satellite’s transmission parameters; if the audio bandwidth is too wide, the required subcarrier is affected by neighbouring subcarriers , and if the audio bandwidth
is too narrow, distortion will occur.
Outdoor unit:
Description of the total system mounted outdoors, consisting of a parabolic
dish and one or more LNB’s for receiving programs from one or more satel-
lites.

DBS:
(Direct Broadcasting Satellite),satellites with very high transmitting power in

Decoder:

Parabolic dish:
Parabolic-shaped dish made of metal or coated plastic for directing the
electromagnetic waves from the satellite to a focal point.
Polarisation level:
In order to improve the utilization of the available frequency range,satelli-
tes send adjacent programs with opposed polarisation (horizontally and
vertically, or counter-clockwise and clockwise).Two single LNBs or one V/H-
LNB are needed to receive both planes of polarisation.
Radio programs:
In the case of satellite transmissions,the television programs - in addition to
the sound which accompanies the pictures - there are also additional radio
programs which are transmitted on subcarriers.As well as the subcarrier frequency, further parameters need to be set: audio bandwidth, deemphasis
and mode.

Subcarriers:
Carrier frequencies for sound to accompany television pictures or radio
programs which are transmitted in addition to the television picture; for a
stereo program two subcarriers are needed, e.g. 7.38 and 7.56 MHz.
V/H-LNB:
Low noise block converter for receiving both levels of polarisation in one or
two frequency ranges, polarisation switching by means of supply voltage
14/18 V (18V = horizontal level, 14V = vertical level), switching of the frequency range by means of 22 kHz modulation (from 11 GHz range to = DBS
