To reduce the risk of injury, follow the specified
safety precautions.
Read and follow all safety precautions in the
instruction manual. Improper use can lead to
serious or fatal personal injury or property
damage.
To reduce the risk of eye injury, always wear
proper eye protection, @ 5.4.
To reduce the risk of personal injury from thrown
objects, inspect the work area and remove
stones, glass, pieces of metal and other objects
that could be thrown by the cutting attachment.
@ 5.6.4.

from thrown objects, keep bystanders
at least 50 ft. (15 m) away, @ 5.6.4.
To reduce the risk of injury or property damage
from unintended activation, remove the battery
any time the trimmer is not in use, @ 5.6.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not
expose the trimmer to rain, water or excessive
moisture. Store it indoors. If it is exposed to rain
or very damp conditions, take it to your
authorized STIHL servicing dealer before further
operation, @ 5.5.
To reduce the risk of personal injury or property
damage from fire or electric shock, keep the
charger dry. Protect it from rain, water, liquids
and damp conditions. For indoor use only, @ 7.
To reduce the risk of personal injury or property
damage from fire, explosion or burns, including
chemical burns, do not disassemble, crush,
drop, damage or heat the battery above 212 °F
(100 °C). Never expose it to fire or incinerate,
@ 6.
To reduce the risk of personal injury or property
damage from a short circuit, fire or explosion,
keep the battery dry. Protect it from rain, water,
liquids and damp conditions. Never immerse the
battery in water or other liquids, @ 6.
To reduce the risk of personal injury or property
damage from fire, use and store the battery only
within an ambient temperature range of 14 °F to
122 °F (- 10 °C to 50 °C), @ 6.
4.2 Deflectors for Mowing Heads
The following symbols may be found on deflectors designed
for use with mowing heads:
The deflector may be used in combination with
the AutoCut and DuroCut mowing head.

5 IMPORTANT SAFETY
INSTRUCTIONS
5.1 General Safety Warnings and Instructions
This section contains the prescribed general safety
warnings and instructions for handheld, motor-operated
electric trimmers. Additional important warnings and
instructions are provided in subsequent sections of this
manual.
WARNING
￭ When using electric trimmers, basic safety precautions
should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire,
electric shock and personal injury, including the following:
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THE
TRIMMER!
1)Avoid Dangerous Environment – Don’t use trimmers in
damp or wet locations.
2)Don’t Use In Rain.
3)Keep Children Away – All bystanders should be kept at a
distance from work area.
4)Dress Properly – Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry.
They can be caught in moving parts. Heavy-duty work
gloves (e.g. made of leather or other wear resistant
material) and substantial footwear are recommended
when working outdoors. Wear protective hair covering to
contain long hair.
5)Use Safety Glasses – Always use face or dust mask if
operation is dusty.
6)Use Right Tool – Do not use tool for any job except that for
which it is intended.
7)Avoid Unintentional Starting – Do not carry trimmer with
finger on the trigger switch. Be sure the trimmer is off
when inserting the battery.
8)Don’t Force Trimmer – It will do the job better and with less
likelihood of a risk of injury at the rate for which it was
designed.

9)Don’t Overreach – Keep proper footing and balance at all
times.
10)Stay Alert – Watch what you are doing. Use common
sense. Do not operate trimmer when you are tired.
11)Store Trimmer Indoors – When not in use, trimmer should
be stored indoors in a dry, locked place out of reach of
children with the battery removed.
12)Maintain Trimmer With Care – Keep cutting attachment
clean for best performance and to reduce the risk of injury.
Follow instructions for changing accessories. Keep
handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.
13)Check Damaged Parts – Before further use of the
trimmer, a guard or other part that is damaged should be
carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly
and perform its intended function. Check for alignment of
moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts,
mounting, and any other condition that may affect its
operation. A guard or other part that is damaged should be
properly repaired or replaced by an authorized service
center unless indicated elsewhere in this manual.
14)Keep guards in place and in working order.
15)Keep hands and feet away from cutting area and cutting
attachment.

5.2 Intended Use
WARNING
￭ This trimmer is designed for light-duty cutting of grass and
similar material in yards and gardens around the home.
Use of the trimmer for operations different than intended
could result in serious injury or death.
– Use the trimmer only for light-duty trimming tasks
around the home and garden.
– Cut grass and similar material only. Do not use the
trimmer for cutting brush, shrubs, bushes or other
types of heavy vegetation.

￭ Improper use could result in personal injury or property
damage, including damage to the trimmer.
– Use the trimmer, battery and charger only as
described in this manual.
– Never attempt to modify or override the trimmer's
controls or safety devices in any way.
– Never use a trimmer that has been modified or
altered from its original design.
￭ The STIHL AK series battery is designed for use only with
compatible STIHL power tools and may be charged only
with a STIHL AL 101, AL 300 or AL 500 charger.
5.3 Operator
WARNING
￭ Working with the trimmer can be strenuous. The operator
must be in good physical condition and mental health. To
reduce the risk of personal injury from fatigue and loss of
control:
– Check with your doctor before using the trimmer if
you have any health condition that may be
aggravated by strenuous work.
– Do not operate the trimmer while under the influence
of any substance (drug, alcohol or medication, etc.)
that might impair vision, balance, dexterity or
judgment.
– Be alert. Do not operate the trimmer when you are
tired. Take a break if you become tired.
– Do not permit minors to use the trimmer.
￭ According to STIHL's current knowledge, the electric
motor of this trimmer should not interfere with a
pacemaker.
– However, persons with a pacemaker or other
implanted medical device should consult their
physician and device manufacturer before operating
this trimmer.
5.4 Personal Protective Equipment
WARNING
￭ Even a properly installed and adjusted deflector may not
protect the operator from all foreign objects thrown back
by the cutting attachment. Thrown objects may also
ricochet and strike the operator. To reduce the risk of
personal injury:
– Always wear proper clothing and protective apparel,
including proper eye protection.
￭ Loss of control and severe cut injuries may result if hair,
clothing or apparel make contact with the moving cutting
attachment or otherwise become entangled in the
components of the trimmer. To reduce the risk of severe
personal injury:
– Wear sturdy and snug-fitting clothing that
also allows complete freedom of
movement.
– Wear overalls or long pants made of
heavy material to help protect your legs.
Do not wear shorts.
– Avoid loose-fitting jackets, scarves, neckties, flared
or cuffed pants, jewelry and any other apparel that
could be caught on branches, brush or the moving
cutting attachment.
– Secure hair above shoulder level before starting
work.
￭ To reduce the risk of eye injury:
– Always wear goggles or close-fitting
protective glasses with adequate side
protection that are impact-rated and
marked as complying with CSA Z94.
– If there is a risk of facial injury, STIHL recommends
that you also wear a face shield or face screen over
your goggles or protective glasses.
– Wear an approved protective helmet, when there is
a risk of head injury.
￭ Good footing is very important. To help maintain a secure
footing and reduce the risk of injury while working:

– Wear substantial footwear with non-slip
soles. Do not wear sandals, flip-flops,
open-toed or similar footwear.
￭ To improve your grip and help protect your hands:
– Always wear heavy-duty non-slip work
gloves made of leather or another wearresistant material when handling the
trimmer.
5.5 Trimmer
WARNING
￭ To reduce the risk of electric shock:
– Do not expose the trimmer to rain, water
or excessive moisture.
– Store the trimmer indoors.
￭ If the moving cutting attachment contacts you, it will result
in serious laceration injuries. To reduce the risk of such
injuries:
– Keep hands, feet and other parts of your body away
from the cutting attachment.
– Never touch the moving cutting attachment with your
hand or any other part of your body.
– Never operate the trimmer with a damaged or
missing deflector.
￭ To reduce the risk of personal injury to the operator and
bystanders from blade or line contact and thrown objects:
– Make sure your unit is equipped with the
proper deflector for the type of cutting
attachment being used. Keep the
deflector properly adjusted at all times.
– Use of some cutting attachments will require you to
change the deflector. See chapter @ 25.1 of this
manual for approved cutting attachment and
deflector configurations.
￭ This battery-powered trimmer is intended only for light-
duty garden and landscape maintenance around the
home. Use for other purposes may increase the risk of
personal injury and property damage.
– Cut grass and similar material only. Do not use the
trimmer for cutting brush, shrubs, bushes or other
types of heavy vegetation.
– Read and follow the operating instructions in this
manual for approved applications, @ 17.
￭ To reduce the risk of personal injury to the operator and
bystanders:
– Always release the trigger switch and
remove the battery before assembling,
transporting, adjusting, inspecting,
cleaning, servicing, maintaining or
storing the trimmer and any other time it
is not in use.
– Never leave the power tool unattended when the
battery is inserted.
￭ Although certain unauthorized attachments may fit your
STIHL trimmer, their use may be extremely dangerous.
Only attachments supplied by STIHL or expressly
approved by STIHL for use with this specific model are
recommended.
– Use only attachments supplied or expressly
approved by STIHL.
– Never attempt to mount a metal blade for use on the
trimmer.
– Never modify this trimmer in any way.
– Never attempt to modify or override the trimmer's
controls or safety devices in any way.
– Never use a trimmer that has been modified or
altered from its original design.
￭ If the trimmer is dropped or subjected to similar heavy
impacts:
– Check that it is undamaged, in good condition and
functioning properly before continuing work.
– Check that the controls and safety devices are
working properly.

– Check the LEDs for error messages, @ 11.1.2.
– Check that the battery has not been damaged.
Never use or charge a malfunctioning, damaged,
cracked, leaking or deformed battery.
– Never work with a damaged or malfunctioning
trimmer. In case of doubt, have the trimmer checked
by your authorized STIHL servicing dealer.
￭ If the trimmer or battery is damaged, not working properly,
has been left outdoors, exposed to rain or damp
conditions or dropped into water or other liquid, its
components may no longer function properly and safety
devices may be inoperative. To reduce the risk of personal
injury and property damage:
– Take the trimmer and battery to your authorized
STIHL servicing dealer to be checked before further
operation.
￭ Genuine STIHL replacement parts are specifically
designed to match your trimmer and meet safety and
performance requirements. Use of parts that are not
authorized or approved by STIHL may cause serious or
fatal injury or property damage.
– STIHL recommends that only identical STIHL
replacement parts be used.
5.6 Using the Trimmer
5.6.1 Before Operation
WARNING
￭ Misuse or unauthorized use may result in personal injury
and property damage.
– Use the trimmer only as described in this instruction
manual.
￭ For proper assembly of the cutting attachment, deflector
and handle:
– Read and follow the instructions on mounting the
cutting attachment, deflector and handle, @ 12.
￭ The cutting attachment and deflector must be an
approved combination. Before replacing:
– Read and follow the instructions on selecting the
proper cutting attachment and deflector, @ 25.1.
￭ The cutting attachment must be properly installed and
tightened before starting work. Failure to use the proper
parts to mount the cutting attachment may cause the head
to fly off and seriously injure the operator or bystanders.
– Never mount a cutting attachment to the trimmer

￭ Using only the approved combination of cutting
attachment and deflector is extremely important to
maximize cutting performance and reduce the risk of
personal injury from thrown objects or contact with the
cutting attachment:
– To reduce the risk of serious injury, never use wire
or metal-reinforced line or other material in place of
the recommended nylon cutting line. Pieces of wire
could break off and be thrown at high speed toward
the operator or bystanders.
￭ Using a trimmer that is modified, damaged, improperly
adjusted or not completely and securely assembled can
lead to a malfunction and increase the risk of serious
personal injury or death.
– Never operate a trimmer that is modified, damaged,
improperly maintained or not completely and
securely assembled.
– Always check your trimmer for proper condition and
operation, particularly the retaining latch, ErgoLever, trigger switch, deflector and cutting
attachment.
– Ensure that the retaining latch, Ergo-Lever and
trigger switch move freely and spring back into place
when released. The trigger switch must not engage
until the retaining latch is unlocked.
– Never attempt to modify or override the controls or
safety devices.
– The cutting attachment must engage only when the
battery is inserted, the retaining latch is unlocked
and the Ergo-Lever and trigger switch are
depressed.
– If your trimmer or any part is damaged or does not
function properly, take it to your authorized STIHL
servicing dealer. Do not use the trimmer until the
problem has been corrected.
￭ Before inserting the battery:
– Check the electrical contacts in the battery
compartment for corrosion or other foreign matter
and keep clean.
– Never insert or use a malfunctioning, damaged,

5.6.2 Holding and Controlling the Trimmer
WARNING
￭ To maintain a firm grip and properly control your trimmer:
– Keep the handles clean and dry at all times. Keep
them free of moisture, pitch, oil, grease and resin.
￭ To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries to the
operator or bystanders from loss of control:
– Always hold the trimmer firmly with both hands when
you are working.
– Wrap your fingers tightly around the handles,
keeping the handles cradled between your thumb
and forefinger (see illustration).
– Position the trimmer in such a way that all parts of
your body are clear of the cutting attachment
whenever the battery is inserted.
￭ Working with the cutting attachment above ground level or
perpendicular to the ground increases the risk of severe
injury from thrown objects. It also exposes more of the
cutting attachment and makes the trimmer more difficult to
control, increasing the risk of injury. To reduce the risk of
serious or fatal injury from loss of control or thrown objects
when trimming:
– Keep the cutting attachment at ground level, parallel
to the ground.
￭ To reduce the risk of serious or fatal cut injuries to the
operator or bystanders from contact with the cutting
attachment:
– Keep hands, feet and other body parts
away from the cutting attachment.
– Never touch a moving cutting attachment
with your hand or any other part of your
body

risks associated with the particular substances you
are cutting or with which you are working.
￭ Inhalation of certain dusts, especially organic dusts such
as mold or pollen, can cause susceptible persons to have
an allergic or asthmatic reaction. Substantial or repeated
inhalation of dust or other airborne contaminants,
especially those with a smaller particle size, may cause
respiratory or other illnesses.
– Control dust at the source where possible.
– To the extent possible, operate the trimmer so that
the wind or operating process directs any dust, mist
or other particulate matter raised by the trimmer
away from the operator.
– When respirable dust or other particulate matter
cannot be kept at or near background levels, always
wear a respirator that is approved by PHAC and
rated for worksite-specific conditions. Follow the
recommendations of governmental authorities (e.g.,
CCOHS/PHAC/MSHA) and occupational and trade
associations.

coated with a chemical substance, such as a pesticide or
herbicide:

accompanied the substance coating the vegetation

￭ The cutting attachment continues to rotate for a short
period after the trigger switch is fully released. This is
known as the "flywheel effect." To reduce the risk of
serious personal injury from contact with the cutting
attachment:
– Wait for the cutting attachment to stop
before walking with the trimmer or
putting it down.
￭ The rotating cutting attachment may fling foreign objects
directly or by ricochet a great distance. Thrown objects,

– Inspect the work area. Remove stones,

that could be thrown by the cutting

the work area. Any persons who
must enter the restricted area
must also wear proper eye

– To reduce the risk of damage to property, also
maintain this distance from such objects as vehicles
and windows.
– Maintaining a minimum distance of 50 ft. (15 m)
cannot eliminate the potential risk of personal injury
and property damage from thrown objects.
– Switch off the motor immediately if you are
approached while working with the trimmer.
￭ Your trimmer is equipped with a deflector. To reduce the
risk of personal injury from thrown objects and contact
with the cutting attachment:
– Never operate the trimmer with a
damaged or missing deflector.
– The cutting attachment and deflector
must be an approved combination.
– Keep the deflector properly adjusted at
all times.
￭ Use of metal cutting attachments, wire or metal-reinforced
line or other non-approved cutting attachments is not
authorized and could be extremely dangerous.
– Never use metal blades or metal-

the cutting attachments recommended in

– If the mowing head or cutting attachment loosens
after being properly tightened, stop work
immediately and have the trimmer inspected by your

agents such as garden chemicals and de-icing salts.
– Protect the battery from exposure to conductive
liquids such as salt water.
– Do not attempt to repair, open or disassemble the
battery. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
￭ Leaking battery fluid is potentially harmful and can cause
skin and eye irritation, chemical burns and other serious
personal injury.
– Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
– Use an inert absorbent such as sand on spilled
battery fluid.
– In the event of accidental contact, immediately rinse
the contact area thoroughly with mild soap and
water.
– If fluid gets into your eye(s): Do not rub. Rinse water
over the open eye(s) for at least 15 minutes and
seek medical attention.
￭ A battery fire can be dangerous. To reduce the risk of
severe personal injury and property damage in the event
of fire:
– Evacuate the area. Fire can spread rapidly. Stay
clear of any vapors generated and maintain a safe
distance.
– Contact the fire department.
– Although water can be used to put out a battery fire,
use of a multi-purpose dry chemical fire extinguisher

– Consult the fire department regarding proper
disposal of a burned battery.

Never insert a wet battery or use a wet

– Never use an extension cord with a wattage rating
lower than the wattage on your charger's rating

– Never use an extension cord if the blades on its plug
are different from the blades on the charger plug in
number, size or shape.

emits smoke, an unusual smell, feels hot or appears

To set up the charger:
► Insert the plug (3) into a properly installed wall outlet (4)
matching the voltage and electrical frequency stated on
the rating plate on the charger.
The charger runs a self-test immediately after it is plugged
in. The charger LED (1) will glow green for about 1 second,
then it will glow red briefly before going out. Once the LED
goes out, the self-test is complete and the charger is ready
to charge the battery.
► Position the power supply cord (2) so that it will not be
stepped on, tripped over, come in contact with sharp
objects or moving parts or otherwise be subjected to
damage or stress.
10.2 Charging
WARNING
STIHL batteries contain safety features and devices which,
if damaged, may allow the battery to generate heat, rupture,
leak, ignite or explode. Never charge a malfunctioning,
damaged, cracked, leaking or deformed battery or use a
charger that has been damaged. For indoor use only. Keep
the charger dry. Protect it from rain, water, liquids and damp
conditions. Never insert a wet battery. Never use a wet
charger, @ 7.
To charge the battery:
► Push the battery (2) into the charger (3) until it stops.
The LED on the charger (4) glows green when the battery
is charging.
The LEDs (1) on the battery glow green and show the
state of charge.
The charging process is complete when the LED on the
charger and the LEDs on the battery go out.
The charger turns itself off when the battery is fully
charged. The battery can be removed from the charger.
► Disconnect the power supply cord from the electrical
outlet when the charger is not in use.
A battery is not fully charged when it ships from the factory.
STIHL recommends that you fully charge the battery before
using it the first time.
Operate the charger only indoors, in dry rooms and within an
ambient temperature range of 41 °F to 104 °F (5 °C to
40 °C).
The battery heats up during operation of the trimmer. If a hot
battery is inserted into the charger, it may be necessary for
it to cool down before charging starts. The charging process
begins only after the battery has cooled down sufficiently.
Charging time depends on a number of factors, including
battery condition and ambient temperature. For a complete

11.1.1 Battery Status Four LEDs show the status of the battery. These LEDs can
glow or flash green or red.
If one LED glows red continuously : the battery

► Position the other clamp (6) against the underside of the
drive tube (5) and line up the holes in the loop handle and
clamps.
► Put washers (2) on the screws (1) and insert the screws

► Attach the square nuts (7) and tighten securely. Ensure
that the handle is tight and will not move during operation.
12.2 Mounting the Bump Guard
To mount the bump guard:

To adjust the position of the loop handle:

In this position, the arrows (3) on the battery are still
visible and the battery is locked in the battery
compartment. There is no electrical contact between the

► To supply power to the trimmer, push the battery into the
battery compartment until it stops.
The battery is properly inserted when you hear a second
audible click and the battery is flush with the top of the
housing. In this position, there is electrical contact
between the battery and the trimmer.

the cutting attachment while the battery is inserted. Never
touch the moving cutting attachment with your hand or any

Never operate your trimmer if it is modified, damaged,
improperly adjusted or maintained, not completely and
securely assembled or not functioning properly, @ 5.5. To
reduce the risk of personal injury, always wear proper
clothing and protective apparel, including proper eye
protection, when operating your trimmer, @ 5.4. To reduce
the risk of serious or fatal injury from loss of control, always
hold the trimmer with both hands when you are working,
@ 5.6.2.
Before switching on:
► Make sure other persons are out of the general work area.
► Make sure you have a secure and firm footing.
► Stand upright.
► Always hold and operate the trimmer with one hand firmly
on the rear or control handle and the other hand firmly on
the loop handle.
► Press down on the locking lever (1) to eject the battery (2)
from the battery compartment.
NOTICE
Avoid exposing the battery to excessive heat or prolonged
periods of direct sunlight. Use or storage outside the
recommended ambient temperature range can reduce the
performance and/or service life of the battery.

► Unlock the retaining latch (1) by pushing it forward with
your thumb. Hold it in this unlocked position.
► While holding the retaining latch, squeeze the trigger
switch (2) with your index finger.
The cutting attachment will start moving.
The motor will not switch on unless the retaining latch is
pushed forward and the trigger switch is pressed at the
same time. Once the trigger switch is activated, you may
release the retaining latch. Holding the Ergo-Lever (3) down
keeps the trigger switch unlocked.
If you release the trigger switch and Ergo-Lever, you have to
unlock the tool again with the retaining latch.
To switch the trimmer off:
► Release the trigger switch and Ergo-Lever so that the
trigger switch springs back to the locked position. In the
locked position, activation of the trigger switch is once
again blocked by the retaining latch.
The cutting attachment will continue to move for a short time
after the trigger switch is released. Take care to avoid
contact after releasing the trigger switch and when setting
down the trimmer.

17 During Operation
To test the controls:
► Remove the battery.
► Attempt to depress the trigger switch.
If the trigger switch can be depressed without first
unlocking the retaining latch, take the trimmer to an
authorized STIHL servicing dealer to be repaired before
use.
► Press down on the Ergo-Lever. Make sure it moves freely
and springs back into place when released.
► Unlock the retaining latch by pushing it forward.
When you release the retaining latch it should return to the
locked position.
► Unlock the retaining latch and depress the Ergo-Lever at
the same time to keep the retaining latch unlocked.
When you release the retaining latch, it should remain
unlocked as long as you hold down the Ergo-Lever.
► Release the retaining latch and Ergo-Lever.
► Insert the battery.
► Hold the trimmer firmly with one hand on the control
handle and with the other hand firmly on the loop handle.
While pushing the retaining latch forward, squeeze the
trigger switch with your index finger.
The trimmer should switch on. If it does not, take the
trimmer to an authorized STIHL servicing dealer to be
repaired before use.
► Release the trigger switch.
The trimmer should switch off.
If the cutting attachment does not stop after you release
the trigger switch, remove the battery and take the trimmer
to an authorized STIHL servicing dealer to be repaired
before use.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury, never work with the
trimmer in the rain or in wet or damp conditions, @ 5.5.
Always wear proper clothing and protective apparel,
including proper eye protection, when operating your
trimmer, @ 5.4. Keep bystanders at least 50 ft. (15 m) away
from the work area, @ 5.6.4. Work carefully and maintain
proper control of the trimmer, @ 5.6.2.
The trimmer is designed for two-handed operation.
► Swing the trimmer back and forth carefully in a controlled
arc parallel to the ground.
► Move forward slowly, keeping two hands on the trimmer at
all times.
When trimming, a bump guard (1) limits the cutting range of
the mowing line and helps prevent unwanted damage to
vegetation in certain circumstances (see illustration).
Always remove the battery before mounting or adjusting the
bump guard.
Observe all applicable laws, regulations, standards and
ordinances.

► While pressing the trigger switch, tap the rotating mowing
head on the ground.
Approximately 1.2 in. (30 mm) of fresh nylon line will be
advanced with each tap.
The line limiting blade in the deflector trims the mowing line
to the proper length.
The bump feed mechanism will not advance additional line
if the mowing line is shorter than 0.1 in. (25 mm). To feed
additional line manually:
► Switch off the trimmer and remove the battery.
► Depress and hold the button on the mowing head.
► Pull out the mowing line by hand.
► If the mowing line cannot be pulled out to the required
length, install a new spool of line.
STIHL recommends keeping nylon line or polymer blades in
a water bath for at least 12 to 24 hours before use to
increase their useful life.

When transporting the battery:
► Place the battery in a non-metal container or carton and
secure it against impact or damage. Never transport the
battery in a metal or other container that is capable of
conducting electricity, or near metal objects (e.g., paper
clips, nails, coins, keys).
► If you are transporting the battery in a vehicle, secure it
and its container to prevent turnover, impact and damage.
STIHL batteries comply with the requirements set forth in
UN-Manual ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.5/Part III, Subsection
38.3.
Commercial air, vessel and ground transportation of lithium
ion cells and batteries is regulated. The battery is classified
as a UN 3480, Class 9, packaging group II product. Shipping
it, either as a complete tool or the battery, requires
compliance with all applicable shipping regulations. Check
with the ground, vessel, air cargo or passenger airline to
determine if transport is prohibited or subject to restrictions
or exemptions prior to shipping or travel.
Normally, no further conditions have to be met by the user in
order to transport STIHL batteries by road to the power tool's
operating site. Check and comply with any special
regulations that may apply to your situation.

Handle discharged/depleted batteries carefully. Even if
believed to be discharged, lithium ion batteries may never
totally discharge and still may deliver a dangerous short
circuit current. If damaged or exposed to extreme
temperatures, they may leak, generate heat, catch fire or
explode.

IMPORTANTES
5.1 Avertissements et instructions générales de sécurité
Ce chapitre contient les consignes et instructions de
sécurité générales règlementaires pour les outils et les
coupe-herbe à moteur portatifs électriques. Des
avertissements et instructions importants supplémentaires
se trouvent dans les sections suivantes du présent manuel.
AVERTISSEMENT
￭ Lorsque vous utilisez un coupe-herbe électrique, vous
devez toujours respecter les consignes de sécurité afin de
réduire le risque de feu, de décharge électrique et de
blessures, dont :
LISEZ TOUTES LES INSTRUCTIONS AVANT D’UTILISER
LE COUPE-HERBE !
1)Évitez les environnements dangereux – N’utilisez pas le
coupe-herbe dans des endroits humides ou mouillés.
2)Ne pas utiliser sous la pluie.
3)Gardez les enfants à l’écart – Tous les spectateurs
doivent se tenir à distance de la zone de travail.
4)Habillez-vous de manière appropriée – Ne portez pas de
vêtements amples ni de bijoux. Ils peuvent être pris dans
des pièces mobiles. Des gants de travail résistants (par
ex. en cuir ou autre matière résistante à l’usure) ainsi que
des chaussures solides sont recommandés pour les
travaux extérieurs. Portez un couvre-chef protecteur pour
contenir les cheveux longs.
5)Utilisez des lunettes de sécurité – Utilisez toujours une
visière ou un masque anti-poussière dans un
environnement de travail poussiéreux.
6)Utilisez les outils appropriés – Ne pas utiliser un outil pour
une autre utilisation que celle pour lequel il est prévu.
7)Évitez le démarrage involontaire – Ne portez pas le
coupe-herbe avec le doigt sur la gâchette. Assurez-vous
que la débroussailleuse est éteinte lorsque vous insérez
la batterie.
8)Ne forcez pas le coupe-herbe – Il fera un meilleur travail
et présentera moins de risque de blessure s’il est utilisé au
régime prévu.
9)Ne vous penchez pas outre mesure - Gardez une bonne
tenue sur pieds et un bon équilibre à tout moment.
10)Restez vigilant – Faites attention à ce que vous faites.
Faites preuve de bon sens. N’utilisez pas le coupe-herbe
lorsque vous êtes fatigué.
11)Entreposez le coupe-herbe à l’intérieur – Lorsque le
coupe-herbe n’est pas utilisé, il doit être entreposé à
l’intérieur, à un endroit sec et fermé à clé, à l’écart des
enfants, avec la batterie retirée.
12)Entretenez le coupe-herbe avec soin – Gardez l’outil de
coupe propre pour une performance optimale et un risque
de blessure minimal. Suivez les instructions pour le
changement d’accessoires. Gardez les poignées sèches,
propres et exemptes d’huile et de graisse.
13)Vérifiez l’absence de pièces endommagées – Avant de
continuer à utiliser le coupe-herbe, toute protection ou
autre pièce endommagée doit être inspectée avec soin
pour s’assurer qu’elle fonctionnera correctement et
remplira sa fonction prévue. Vérifiez l’alignement des
parties mobiles ainsi que l’absence de grippage des
parties mobiles, de pièces cassées et tout autre état qui
pourrait compromettre le bon fonctionnement. Toute
protection ou autre pièce endommagée doit être réparée
dans les règles ou remplacées par un centre SAV agréé
sauf indication contraire dans ce manuel.

5.2 Utilisation prévue
AVERTISSEMENT
￭ Ce coupe-herbe est conçu pour la coupe légère d’herbe
ou similaire dans les parcs et jardins autour de la maison.
L’utilisation du coupe-herbe pour des opérations
différentes de celles pour lesquelles elle a été conçue
peut entraîner de graves blessures et même la mort.
– Utilisez ce coupe-herbe uniquement pour des
opérations de taille légères autour de la maison et
au jardin.
– Coupez uniquement de l’herbe ou similaire avec
cette machine. N'utilisez pas le coupe-herbe pour
couper les broussailles, arbustes, buissons ou
autres types de végétation dense.
￭ Un usage incorrect risque d’entraîner des lésions
corporelles ou des dommages matériels, y compris des
dommages au coupe-herbe.
– Utilisez le coupe-herbe, la batterie et le chargeur
uniquement de la manière décrite dans le présent
manuel.
– N’essayez jamais de modifier ou de neutraliser
d’une manière quelconque les dispositifs de
commande et de sécurité du coupe-herbe.
– N’utilisez jamais un coupe-herbe qui a été modifié
ou transformé par rapport à sa conception originale.
￭ La batterie STIHL série AK est conçue pour être utilisée
exclusivement avec des outils électriques STIHL
compatibles et ne peut être chargé qu'avec un chargeur
STIHL AL 101, AL 300 ou AL 500.
5.3 Opérateur
AVERTISSEMENT
￭ Le travail avec le coupe-herbe peut être fatigant.
L’opérateur doit être en bonne condition physique et
mentale. Pour réduire tout risque de blessure résultant de
la fatigue ou d’une perte de contrôle :
– Consultez votre médecin avant d’utiliser le coupe-
herbe si vous avez un problème de santé qui peutêtre être aggravé par un travail pénible.
– N’utilisez pas le coupe-herbe pendant que vous êtes
sous l’influence d’une substance quelconque
(drogue, alcool, médicaments, etc.) qui peut altérer
la vision, l’équilibre, la dextérité ou le jugement.
– Soyez vigilant. N’utilisez pas le coupe-herbe lorsque
vous êtes fatigué. Faites une pause lorsque vous
vous sentez fatigué.
– N’autorisez pas les mineurs à utiliser le coupe-
herbe.
￭ D’après les connaissances actuelles de STIHL, le moteur
électrique de ce coupe-herbe ne devrait pas provoquer
d’interférences avec un stimulateur cardiaque.
– Il convient cependant que les porteurs de
stimulateur cardiaque ou d’un autre dispositif
médical implanté consultent leur médecin et le
fabricant du dispositif avant d’utiliser ce coupeherbe.

5.4 Équipement de protection individuelle
AVERTISSEMENT
￭ Même un capot protecteur installé et réglé de manière
appropriée ne protègera pas l’opérateur contre tous les
corps étrangers projetés par l’outil de coupe. Les objets
projetés peuvent également rebondir et frapper
l’opérateur. Pour réduire les risques de lésion corporelle :
– Portez toujours des vêtements adéquats et une
combinaison de protection ainsi qu’une protection
oculaire appropriée.
￭ Le contact des cheveux, des vêtements ou de la
combinaison avec l’outil de coupe en mouvement ou leur
happement par d’autres composants du coupe-herbe peut
entraîner une perte de contrôle et de graves coupures.
Pour réduire les risques de lésion corporelle grave :
– Portez des vêtements robustes et bien
ajustés qui offrent également une totale
liberté de mouvement.
– Portez des salopettes ou des pantalons
en matériau lourd pour protéger vos
jambes. Ne portez pas de shorts.
– Évitez les vestes amples, les foulards, les cravates,
les pantalons à pattes d’éléphant ou à revers, les
bijoux et les autres accessoires qui pourraient rester
accrochés aux branches, aux buissons ou à l’outil de
coupe en mouvement.
– Attachez les cheveux au-dessus des épaules avant
de commencer le travail.
￭ Pour réduire les risques de lésion oculaire :
– Portez toujours des lunettes protectrices
ou des lunettes de sécurité étanches
avec protection latérale adéquate qui
sont résistantes aux chocs et marqués
comme étant conforme à la norme CSA
Z94.
– S’il existe un risque de lésion au visage, STIHL vous
recommande de porter également un écran facial ou
un masque de sécurité au-dessus de vos lunettes
protectrices ou lunettes de sécurité.
– Portez un casque de protection homologué s’il
existe un risque de blessure à la tête.
￭ Une bonne tenue sur pieds est très importante. Pour aider
à garder une bonne tenue sur pieds et réduire le risque de
blessures en travaillant :
– Portez des chaussures conséquentes
équipées de semelles antidérapantes.
Ne portez pas de sandales, de tongs, de
chaussures à bout ouvert ou similaire.
￭ Pour améliorer votre préhension et aider à protéger vos
mains :
– Portez toujours des gants de travail
antidérapants robustes en cuir ou en un
autre matériau résistant à l’usure lors de
la manipulation du coupe-herbe.
5.5 Coupe-herbe
AVERTISSEMENT
￭ Pour réduire le risque d’électrocution :
– N’exposez pas le coupe-herbe à la pluie,
à l’eau ou à une humidité excessive.
– Entreposez le coupe-herbe à l’intérieur.
￭ Le contact avec l’outil de coupe en mouvement entraînera
de graves coupures. Pour réduire les risques de telles
blessures :
– Gardez les mains, les pieds et les autres parties du
corps à distance de l’outil de coupe.
– Ne touchez jamais l’outil de coupe en mouvement
avec votre main ou toute autre partie de votre corps.
– N’utilisez jamais le coupe-herbe avec un capot
protecteur endommagé ou manquant.
￭ Pour réduire le risque de blessure à l’opérateur résultant
d’un contact avec le couteau ou le fil de coupe et par des
objets projetés :

équipé du capot approprié pour le type
d’outil de coupe utilisé. Gardez le capot
protecteur correctement ajusté à tout

– L’utilisation de certains outils de coupe vous
imposera de changer le capot protecteur. Voir le
chapitre @ 25.1 du présent manuel pour les
configurations approuvées d’outil de coupe et de
capot protecteur.
￭ Ce coupe-herbe à batterie est destiné uniquement à
l'entretien des jardins et du paysage. Une utilisation à
d’autres fins peut augmenter le risque de lésions
corporelles et de dommages matériels.
– Coupez uniquement de l’herbe ou similaire avec
cette machine. N'utilisez pas le coupe-herbe pour
couper les broussailles, arbustes, buissons ou
autres types de végétation dense.
– Lisez et observez les instructions d’utilisation du
présent manuel pour les applications approuvées,
@ 17.
￭ Pour réduire le risque de blessure à l’utilisateur et aux
spectateurs pendant l’utilisation :
– Relâchez toujours la gâchette et retirez
la batterie avant tout assemblage,
transport, réglage, inspection,
nettoyage, réparation, entretien ou avant
d’entreposer le coupe-herbe et à tout
moment lorsqu’il n’est pas utilisé.
– Ne laissez jamais l'outil électrique sans surveillance
lorsque la batterie est insérée.
￭ Même si certains accessoires non autorisés s'adaptent
sur votre coupe-herbe STIHL, leur utilisation peut être
extrêmement dangereuse. Seuls sont recommandés les
accessoires fournis par STIHL ou expressément autorisés
par STIHL pour une utilisation avec ce modèle spécifique.
– Utilisez uniquement les accessoires livrés ou
expressément autorisés par STIHL.
– N’essayez jamais de monter un couteau métallique
sur le coupe-herbe.
– N’apportez jamais aucune modification au coupe-
herbe, quelle qu’elle soit.
– N’essayez jamais de modifier ou de neutraliser
d’une manière quelconque les dispositifs de
commande et de sécurité du coupe-herbe.
– N’utilisez jamais un coupe-herbe qui a été modifié
ou transformé par rapport à sa conception originale.
￭ Si le coupe-herbe chute ou est soumis à des chocs
importants similaires :
– Vérifiez qu'il n'est pas endommagé et qu’il
fonctionne normalement avant de poursuivre le
travail.
– Vérifiez que les commandes et les dispositifs de
sécurité fonctionnent correctement.
– Vérifiez les éventuels messages d’erreur des DEL,
@ 11.1.2.
– Vérifiez que la batterie n’a pas été endommagée.
N’utilisez et ne chargez jamais une batterie
défectueuse, endommagée, fissurée, fuyante ou
déformée.
– Ne travaillez jamais avec un coupe-herbe
endommagé ou qui ne fonctionne pas. En cas de
doute, faites vérifier le coupe-herbe par votre
revendeur agréé STIHL.
￭ Si le coupe-herbe ou la batterie est endommagé, ne
fonctionne pas correctement, a été laissé à l’extérieur,
exposé à la pluie ou à des conditions humides ou s’il est
tombé dans l’eau ou tout autre liquide, les composants
peuvent ne plus fonctionner correctement et les dispositifs
de sécurité peuvent être inopérants. Pour réduire les
risques de lésion corporelle et de dommages matériels :
– Faites vérifier le coupe-herbe et la batterie par votre
distributeur agréé STIHL avant toute autre
opération.
￭ Les pièces de rechange STIHL authentiques sont
conçues spécifiquement pour correspondre à votre
coupe-herbe et répondent aux exigences de sécurité et de

autorisées ou homologuées par STIHL peut causer des

– STIHL recommande d’utiliser exclusivement des
pièces de rechange STIHL identiques.
5.6 Utilisation du coupe-herbe
5.6.1 Avant l’utilisation
AVERTISSEMENT
￭ Une utilisation incorrecte ou non autorisée peut causer
des lésions corporelles ou des dommages matériels.
– Utilisez le coupe-herbe uniquement de la manière
décrite dans le présent manuel.
￭ Pour assurer le montage correct de l’outil de coupe, du
capot protecteur et de la poignée :
– Lisez et observez les instructions relatives au
montage de l’outil de coupe, du capot protecteur et
de la poignée, @ 12.
￭ La combinaison de l’outil de coupe et du capot protecteur
doit être approuvée. Avant un remplacement :
– Lisez et observez les instructions pour choisir l’outil
de coupe et le capot protecteur appropriés, @ 25.1.
￭ L’outil de coupe doit être monté et fixé correctement avant
de commencer le travail. Si l’outil de coupe n’est pas fixé
avec les pièces appropriées, la tête risque de se détacher
et d’être projeté, entraînant de graves blessures à
l’opérateur ou aux spectateurs.
– Ne montez jamais un outil de coupe sur le coupe-
herbe sans avoir installé correctement toutes les
pièces nécessaires (par exemple écrous, vis,
rondelle de butée, plaque de butée, etc.).
– Avant de commencer le travail, vérifiez qu’aucune
pièce n’est desserrée (écrous, vis, etc.) et aussi que
la tête n’est pas fissurée ou endommagée.
– Remplacez les têtes endommagés ou épuisées
avant d’utiliser l'outil électrique.
￭ L’utilisation de la combinaison approuvée de l’outil de
coupe et du capot protecteur est extrêmement importante
pour maximiser les performances de coupe et réduire le
risque de blessures par des objets projetés ou entrant en
contact avec l’outil de coupe :
– Afin de réduire le risque de blessures graves,
n’utilisez jamais un fil de coupe métallique ou
renforcé par du métal à la place du fil de coupe en
nylon recommandé. Des parties du fil métallique
pourraient se casser et être projetées à une grande
vitesse vers l’utilisateur ou des spectateurs.
￭ L’utilisation d’un coupe-herbe modifié, endommagé, mal
réglé ou mal entretenu ou qui n’est pas assemblé
entièrement et de manière sûr peut entraîner un
dysfonctionnement et accroître le risque de blessures
graves ou de mort.
– N’utilisez jamais un coupe-herbe qui est modifié,
endommagé, mal entretenu ou qui n’est pas
assemblé entièrement et de manière sécurisée.
– Vérifiez toujours si votre coupe-herbe est en bon
état et fonctionne bien avant de commencer le
travail, notamment le verrou de retenue, la gâchette,
le capot protecteur et les outils de coupe.
– Assurez-vous que le verrou de retenue, le levier
Ergo et la gâchette bougent librement et retournent
toujours en position d’arrêt en les relâchant. La
gâchette ne doit pas venir en prise tant que le verrou
de retenue est débloqué.
– N’essayez jamais de modifier ou de neutraliser les
dispositifs de commande et de sécurité.
– L'outil de coupe ne doit s'enclencher que lorsque la
batterie est insérée, que le verrou de retenue est
déverrouillé et que levier Ergo et la gâchette sont
enfoncés.
– Si votre coupe-herbe ou une partie de celui-ci est
endommagé ou ne fonctionne pas correctement,
amenez-le à votre distributeur agréé STIHL.
N’utilisez pas le coupe-herbe avant d’avoir corrigé le
problème.

￭ Avant d’insérer la batterie :
– Vérifiez que les contacts dans le logement de la
batterie ne présentent aucune trace de corrosion ni
d’autres corps étrangers et tenez-les propres.
– N’insérez ni n’utilisez jamais une batterie
défectueuse, endommagée, fissurée, fuyante ou
déformée.
– Lisez et observez les instructions relatives à la mise
en marche du coupe-herbe, @ 15.1.
￭ Pour contribuer à réduire les risques de blessure grave ou
mortelle résultant d’un démarrage involontaire :
– Veillez à ce que le verrou de retenue se trouve en
position bloquée avant d’insérer la batterie.
– Ne transportez jamais le coupe-herbe avec le doigt
sur la gâchette.
– Relâchez la gâchette avant de retirer la batterie.
– Retirez la batterie avant tout
assemblage, transport, réglage,
inspection, nettoyage, réparation,
entretien ou avant d’entreposer le
coupe-herbe et à tout moment lorsqu’il
n’est pas utilisé.
– Ne laissez jamais le coupe-herbe sans surveillance
lorsque la batterie est insérée.
– Ne stockez jamais la batterie dans le coupe-herbe.
￭ Avant de mettre votre coupe-herbe en marche, prenez les
mesures suivantes pour réduire le risque de blessures par
des objets projetés, de perte de contrôle ou de contact
accidentel avec l’outil de coupe :
– Assurez-vous que l’outil de coupe est éloigné de
vous-même ainsi que de tous les autres obstacles et
objets, y compris le sol.
– Lisez et observez les instructions relatives à la mise
en marche du coupe-herbe, @ 15.1.
5.6.2 Tenue et contrôle du coupe-herbe

AVERTISSEMENT
￭ Pour maintenir une prise ferme et bien contrôler votre
coupe-herbe :
– Gardez les poignées propres et sèches à tout
moment. Gardez-les exemptes d’humidité, de poix,
d’huile, de graisse et de résine.
￭ Pour réduire le risque de blessures graves ou mortelles à
l’opérateur et aux spectateurs suite à une perte de
contrôle :
– Tenez toujours le coupe-herbe fermement avec les
deux mains lorsque vous travaillez.
– Enroulez étroitement vos doigts autour des
poignées, en gardant les poignées prises en tenaille
entre le pouce et l’index (voir l’illustration).
– Positionnez le coupe-herbe de manière à ce que
toutes les parties de votre corps soient dégagées de
l'outil de coupe lorsque la batterie est insérée.
￭ Le fait de travailler avec l’outil de coupe au-dessus du
niveau du sol ou perpendiculairement au sol accroît le
risque de blessures graves provoquées par des objets
projetés. L’outil de coupe est aussi davantage exposé et
rend le coupe-herbe plus difficile à contrôler, ce qui
augmente le risque de blessure. Pour réduire le risque de

blessures graves ou mortelles en cas de perte de contrôle
ou de projection d’objets lors de l’utilisation du coupeherbe :
– Tenez l’outil de coupe au niveau du sol, parallèle au
sol.
￭ Pour réduire le risque de coupures graves ou mortelles à
l’utilisateur ou aux spectateurs par un contact avec l’outil
de coupe :
– Gardez les mains, les pieds et les autres
parties du corps à distance de l’outil de
coupe.
– Ne touchez jamais un outil de coupe en
mouvement avec votre main ou toute
autre partie de votre corps
– Ne touchez par l'outil de coupe lorsque la batterie
est insérée.
￭ L’utilisation du coupe-herbe d’une seule main peut
entraîner une perte de contrôle et est extrêmement
dangereux. Pour réduire le risque de blessures graves ou
mortelles à l’opérateur et aux spectateurs suite à une
perte de contrôle :
– N’essayez jamais d’utiliser le coupe-
herbe d’une seule main.
￭ Pour réduire le risque de coupures graves ou mortelles à
l’opérateur et aux spectateurs suite à une perte de
contrôle, gardez une bonne tenue sur pieds et un bon
équilibre à tout moment :
– Assurez-vous à tout moment d’avoir un bon équilibre
et une garde au sol bien stable.
– Soyez particulièrement attentif aux obstacles
humides ou cachés, tels que des souches d’arbres,
les racines, les rochers, les trous et les fossés pour
éviter de trébucher ou de chuter si le terrain est
envahi par la végétation.
– Soyez extrêmement prudent lorsque vous travaillez
sur des pentes ou un sol irrégulier.
– Pour une meilleure tenue sur pieds, écartez toujours
les branches tombées au sol, les broussailles, les
chutes et autres matériels, objets ou végétations qui
augmentent le risque de glissade, de trébuchement
ou de chute.
– N’utilisez jamais le coupe-herbe au-dessus de la
hauteur de la ceinture.
– Ne vous penchez pas trop.
￭ Pour un meilleur contrôle et une moindre fatigue, il est
conseillé de tenir le coupe-herbe bien équilibré.
– Réglez la position de la poignée tubulaire pour
obtenir et conserver une position de travail
confortable et efficace, @ 13.
5.6.3 Conditions de travail
AVERTISSEMENT
￭ N’utilisez votre coupe-herbe que dans de bonnes
conditions de visibilité à la lumière du jour.
– Reportez le travail si le temps est venteux, brumeux,
pluvieux ou peu clément.
￭ Votre coupe-herbe est une machine pour une seule
personne.
– Les spectateurs, en particulier les enfants, et les
animaux ne devraient pas être autorisés dans la
zone où il est utilisé.
– Arrêtez immédiatement le coupe-herbe si quelqu’un
s’approche de vous.
￭ Pour réduire le risque de blessure aux spectateurs et
utilisateurs non autorisés :
– Ne laissez jamais le coupe-herbe sans surveillance
lorsque la batterie est insérée.
– Éteignez le coupe-herbe et retirez la clé d’activation
pendant les interruptions du travail ou à tout autre
moment lorsque le coupe-herbe n’est pas utilisé.

￭ Si la végétation coupée ou la terre environnante est
recouverte d’une substance chimique comme un pesticide
ou un herbicide :
– Lisez et observez les instructions et les
avertissements accompagnant la substance qui
recouvre la végétation ou la terre environnante.
5.6.4 Instructions d’utilisation

– Arrêtez immédiatement le moteur et retirez la

￭ L’outil de coupe continue de tourner pendant une courte
période après le relâchement complet de la gâchette. Ceci

métalliques ou de fils renforcés par du métal ou encore
d’outils de coupe non approuvés est interdite et peut

– N’utilisez jamais des couteaux en métal
ou un fil renforcé par du métal sur ce
coupe-herbe. Utilisez seulement les
outils de coupe recommandés dans le

se détacher du coupe-herbe et entraîner des blessures
graves voire mortelles.
– Assurez que l’outil de coupe et la tête faucheuse
sont correctement fixés avant d’utiliser votre coupeherbe.
– Vérifiez la bonne tenue et l’état de l’outil de coupe et
de la tête faucheuse avant de commencer le travail
et à chaque fois que le comportement de taillage
change pendant l’utilisation. Éteignez toujours le
moteur et attendez que l’outil de coupe se soit
immobilisé, puis retirez la batterie avant d’inspecter
le coupe-herbe ou son outil de coupe.
– Si la tête faucheuse ou l’outil de coupe se desserre
après avoir été correctement serré, arrêtez
immédiatement d’utiliser le coupe-herbe et
apportez-le pour inspection à un distributeur STIHL
agréé.
– N’utilisez jamais un coupe-herbe dont la tête
faucheuse ou l’outil de coupe est desserré ou
endommagé.
￭ Une tête faucheuse fissurée, endommagée ou usée peut
se casser à une vitesse élevée et provoquer des
blessures graves, voire mortelles.
– Une tête faucheuse fissurée, endommagée ou usée
doit être remplacée immédiatement, même si le
dommage semble se limiter à des fissures
superficielles.

recommandée peut également réduire la durée de vie et
les performances de la batterie.
– Utilisez et stockez la batterie uniquement
dans une plage de températures
ambiantes de 14 °F à 122 °F (-10 °C à
50 °C).
– N’entreposez jamais la batterie en plein
soleil ou à l’intérieur d’un véhicule par
temps chaud.

matériels dans le cas où la batterie émet de la fumée, une

ou d’autres liquides.
– Ne court-circuitez jamais les bornes de la batterie

objets métalliques (trombones, clous, pièces de
monnaie, clés).
– Ne transportez ou n’entreposez jamais la batterie
dans une boîte métallique.
– Entreposez la batterie à l’intérieur dans un local sec.
– N’entreposez jamais la batterie dans des
environnements humides ou corrosifs, ni dans des
conditions qui pourraient provoquer la corrosion de
ses composants métalliques.
– Ne stockez jamais la batterie dans le coupe-herbe
ou le chargeur.
– Protégez la batterie contre une exposition à des
agents corrosifs tels que les produits chimiques de
jardins et des sels de déneigement.
– Protégez la batterie contre une exposition à des
liquides conducteurs tels que l’eau salée.
– N’essayez pas de réparer, d’ouvrir ou de démonter
la batterie. Aucune pièce réparable par l’utilisateur
ne s’y trouve.
￭ Une fuite de liquide de la batterie est potentiellement
dangereuse et peut provoquer une irritation de la peau et
des yeux, des brûlures chimiques et d’autres blessures
graves.
– Évitez tout contact avec la peau et les yeux.
– Utilisez un absorbant inerte comme le sable sur les
liquides de batterie déversés.
– En cas de contact accidentel, rincez immédiatement

– Bien qu’il soit possible d’utiliser de l’eau pour
éteindre un feu de batterie, l’utilisation d’un
extincteur chimique sec multi-usages est préférable.
– Consultez les pompiers concernant une mise au
rebut appropriée d’une batterie brûlée.
￭ Faire tomber la batterie pourrait causer des lésions
corporelles ou des dommages matériels. Pour prévenir
que la batterie ne tombe lors de son retrait :
– Placez le coupe-herbe sur une surface plane.
– Placez votre main derrière la batterie lorsque vous
appuyez sur le levier de verrouillage. Soyez prudent
lorsque vous éjectez la batterie.

sont pas endommagés. En présence
d’un dommage, débranchez
immédiatement la fiche de la prise

– Faites remplacer un cordon d’alimentation
endommagé par un distributeur agréé STIHL.
– Débranchez le cordon d’alimentation de la prise
lorsque le chargeur n’est pas en cours d’utilisation.
– Ne tirez jamais sur le cordon d’alimentation par
saccades pour le débrancher de la prise électrique.
Pour débrancher, saisissez la fiche et non le cordon
d’alimentation.

ou repéré de manière à ce qu’il ne risque pas d’être

￭ Il convient de ne pas utiliser de câble prolongateur, sauf
si cela est absolument nécessaire. Le fait de surcharger
un câble prolongateur peut entraîner une surchauffe et un
incendie. Si l’utilisation d’un câble prolongateur est
indispensable :
– Utilisez uniquement un câble prolongateur de calibre
approprié (AWG 16 ou plus).
– Ne raccordez jamais plus d’un chargeur ou un autre
appareil à un câble prolongateur.
– N’utilisez jamais un câble prolongateur dont la
puissance nominale est inférieure à la puissance
figurant sur la plaque signalétique de votre chargeur.
– N’utilisez jamais un câble prolongateur dont les
broches de la fiche sont différentes de celles de la

10 Recharge de la batterie
10.1 Installation du chargeur
AVERTISSEMENT
Lisez et observez les consignes de sécurité de la batterie et
du chargeur dans le présent manuel, @ 6et @ 7 Pour
réduire le risque de court-circuit, ce qui pourrait provoquer
une électrocution, un incendie ou une explosion, assurezvous que le chargeur et ses composants sont secs et non
endommagés ; utilisez le chargeur à l’intérieur à une
température ambiante appropriée, @ 7.
AVERTISSEMENT
Du fait que la batterie et le chargeur chauffent pendant le
processus de charge, n’utilisez pas le chargeur sur une
surface combustible ou à un endroit où se trouvent des gaz,
liquides, vapeurs, poussières ou autres matières et
substances inflammables, @ 7.
Pour installer le chargeur :
► Insérez la fiche (3) dans une prise murale (4) installée
conformément aux normes et dont la tension et la
fréquence électriques coïncident avec celles indiquées
sur la plaque signalétique sur le chargeur.
Le chargeur exécute un auto-test immédiatement après
avoir été branché. La DEL (1) du chargeur s’allumera en vert
pendant environ 1 seconde, puis s’allumera brièvement en
rouge avant de s’éteindre. Une fois que la DEL s’éteint,
l’auto-test terminé et le chargeur est prêt à charger la
batterie.
► Positionnez le cordon d’alimentation (2) de manière à ce
qu’il ne risque pas d’être piétiné, de provoquer un
trébuchement ou d’entrer en contact avec des objets
tranchants ou des pièces mobiles, ni subir d’autres
dommages ou contraintes.
10.2 Charge
AVERTISSEMENT
Les batteries STIHL contiennent des caractéristiques et des

Pour charger la batterie :
► Enfoncez la batterie (2) dans le chargeur (3) jusqu’en
butée.
Lorsque la batterie est chargée, la DEL sur le chargeur (4)
s’allume en vert.
Les DEL (1) de la batterie AP s'allument en vert et
indiquent l'état de charge.
Le processus de charge est terminé lorsque la DEL sur le
chargeur et les DEL sur la batterie s’éteignent.
Le chargeur s’éteint automatiquement lorsque la batterie
est pleinement chargée. La batterie peut être retirée du
chargeur.
► Débranchez le cordon d'alimentation de la prise électrique
lorsque le chargeur n'est pas utilisé.
Une batterie n'est pas complètement chargée lorsqu'elle est
expédiée de l'usine. STIHL vous recommande de charger
complètement la batterie avant de l’utiliser la première fois.
Utilisez le chargeur uniquement à l’intérieur, dans des
locaux secs, dans une plage de températures ambiantes de
41 °F à 104 °F (5 °C à 40 °C).
La batterie chauffe pendant le fonctionnement du coupeherbe. Si vous insérez une batterie chaude dans le
chargeur, il sera peut-être nécessaire de la laisser refroidir
avant le début de la charge. Le processus de charge
commence seulement une fois que la batterie a
suffisamment refroidi.
Le temps de charge dépend de plusieurs facteurs,
notamment l’état de la batterie et de la température
ambiante. Pour une liste complète des temps de charge
approximatifs, voir www.stihl.com/charging-times.
10.3 Montage du chargeur sur un mur
Avant le montage, assurez-vous qu'aucun câble électrique,
tuyau ou autre ligne de service ne passe dans le mur
derrière le chargeur.

► Installez le chargeur à l'intérieur, dans un endroit sec,
près d'une prise électrique.
► Serrez les vis à fleur dans un montant de cloison. Si aucun
montant de cloison n’est disponible, utilisez des éléments
d’ancrage mural à visser appropriés ou d’autres
dispositifs de fixation similaires.
► Alignez le chargeur comme illustré ci-dessus. Montez-le
sur un mur ayant les dimensions suivantes :
– a = minimum 18 in. (450 mm)
– b = minimum 3,9 in. (100 mm)
– c (pour AL 101) = 3,0 in. (75 mm)
– c (pour AL 300 et AL 500) = 4,7 in. (120 mm)
– d = 0,2 in. (4,5 mm)

11.1 DEL sur la batterie
11.1.1 État de la batterie L’état de la batterie est indiqué par quatre DEL. Ces DEL
peuvent être allumées ou clignoter en vert ou en rouge.
Si une DEL qui reste continuellement allumée
en rouge : la batterie est trop chaude ou trop
froide. Laissez la batterie se réchauffer ou
refroidir progressivement à une température
ambiante d’environ 50 °F à 68 °F (10 °C à
20 °C).
Si toutes les 4 DEL clignotent en rouge : la
batterie est défaillante et doit être remplacée.
N’essayez pas de charger, d’utiliser ou
d’entreposer la batterie.
11.1.2 État du coupe-herbe
Lorsque la batterie est insérée dans le coupe-herbe, les
mêmes DEL sur la batterie indiqueront l’état du coupeherbe.
Si trois DEL restent continuellement allumées en rouge : le
moteur du coupe-herbe est trop chaud. Laissez refroidir le
moteur.
Si les trois DEL clignotent lorsque vous actionnez la
gâchette : le coupe-herbe présente un dysfonctionnement
électrique. N’utilisez pas le coupe-herbe. Faites-la vérifier
par un distributeur agréé STIHL avant de l’utiliser ou de
l’entreposer.

11.1.3 État de charge
Les DEL sur la batterie indiquent également l’état de charge
de cette dernière.
Pour déterminer l’état de charge de la batterie :
► Appuyez sur le bouton (1) sur la batterie.
Les DEL sur la batterie s’allumeront ou clignoteront en
vert pendant 5 secondes environ et indiqueront ainsi l’état
de charge (voir l’illustration).
Par exemple :
Si quatre DEL vertes s’allument en continu : pleine charge.
Si une DEL verte clignote : il reste moins de 20 % de charge.
11.2 DEL sur le chargeur
Une DEL indique l’état du chargeur. La DEL peut être
allumée en vert ou clignoter en rouge.
Si la DEL reste continuellement allumée en vert :
la batterie est en cours de charge.
ou
La batterie est trop chaude ou trop froide pour
être chargée. Pour le savoir, vérifiez les DEL sur
la batterie. Si un voyant rouge est allumé, laissez
la batterie se réchauffer ou refroidir
progressivement à une température ambiante
d’environ 50 °F à 68 °F (10 °C à 20 °C).

12.1 Montage de la poignée tubulaire
AVERTISSEMENT
Pour réduire le risque de blessure résultant d’une perte de
contrôle, assurez-vous que la poignée tubulaire est montée
correctement et de manière sécurisée avant de commencer
le travail.
► Placez une pince (4) dans la poignée tubulaire (3).
► Placez l’autre pince (6) contre le dessous du tube
d’entraînement (5) et alignez les trous dans la poignée
tubulaire et les pinces.
► Placez des rondelles (2) sur les vis (1) et insérez les vis à
travers les trous dans la poignée tubulaire et les pinces.
► Montez les écrous carrés (7) et serrez-les fermement.
Vérifiez que la poignée est bien serrée et ne risque pas de
bouger pendant le fonctionnement.
12.2 Monter la pièce d’écartement

hauteur et de la portée de l'opérateur.
Pour ajuster la position de la poignée tubulaire :

► Retirez la batterie, @ 14.2.

ambiantes de 14 °F à 122 °F (- 10 °C à 50 °C), @ 6.

Pour réduire tout risque d’activation involontaire,
n’entreposez jamais la batterie dans le coupe-herbe,
@ 20.2.
Pour insérer la batterie :
► Pour alimenter le coupe-herbe, poussez la batterie dans
son logement jusqu’en butée.
La batterie est bien insérée lorsque vous entendez un
second déclic et que la batterie est à fleur du dessus du
boîtier. Dans cette position, il existe un contact électrique
entre la batterie et le coupe-herbe.
Comme une batterie neuve n’est pas entièrement chargée,
STIHL recommande de charger complètement la batterie
avant de l’utiliser pour la première fois, @ 10.
14.2 Retrait de la batterie
AVERTISSEMENT
Pour réduire tout risque de blessure grave résultant d’une
activation involontaire, retirez toujours la batterie avant tout
assemblage, transport, réglage, nettoyage, réparation,
entretien ou avant d’entreposer le coupe-herbe et à tout
moment lorsqu’il n’est pas utilisé.
AVERTISSEMENT
Soyez prudent en éjectant la batterie pour éviter qu’elle ne
chute et provoque des lésions corporelles ou des
dommages matériels.
Pour retirer la batterie :
► Relâchez la gâchette.
► Placez le coupe-herbe sur une surface plane.
► Placez votre main derrière la batterie.
► Placez le coupe-herbe sur une surface plane.
► Insérez la batterie (1) dans son logement (2) jusqu’à ce
que vous entendiez un déclic.
Dans cette position, les flèches (3) sur la batterie sont
toujours visibles et la batterie est verrouillée dans son
logement. Il n’existe aucun contact électrique entre la
batterie et le coupe-herbe.

L’utilisation ou l’entreposage hors de la plage de
températures ambiante recommandée peut réduire les
performances et/ou la durée de vie de la batterie.

15.1 Mise en marche
AVERTISSEMENT
Pour réduire le risque de coupures graves ou mortelles à
l’opérateur ou aux spectateurs, tenez les mains, les pieds et
les autres parties du corps éloignés de l’outil de coupe,
@ 5.6.2. Ne touchez par l'outil de coupe lorsque la batterie
est insérée. Ne touchez jamais l’outil de coupe en
mouvement avec votre main ou toute autre partie de votre
corps, @ 5.6.4.
AVERTISSEMENT
N’utilisez jamais votre coupe-herbe s’il est modifié,
endommagé, mal réglé ou mal entretenu ou s’il n’est pas
assemblé entièrement ou de manière sécurisée ou encore
s’il ne fonctionne pas correctement, @ 5.5. Pour réduire
tout risque de blessure, portez toujours des vêtements
adaptés et une combinaison de protection, y compris une
protection oculaire appropriée, lorsque vous utilisez votre
coupe-herbe, @ 5.4. Pour réduire le risque de blessures
graves ou mortelles en cas de perte de contrôle, maintenez
toujours le coupe-herbe avec les deux mains lorsque vous
travaillez, @ 5.6.2.
Avant la mise en marche :
► Assurez-vous que les autres personnes ne se trouvent
pas dans la zone de travail générale.
► Assurez-vous d’avoir une position stable et sécurisée.
► Tenez-vous droit.
► Tenez et actionnez toujours le coupe-herbe avec une
main fermement sur la poignée de commande et l'autre
main fermement sur la poignée tubulaire ou la poignée
avant.
Pour allumer le coupe-herbe :

► Déverrouillez le verrou de retenue (1) en le poussant vers
l'avant avec votre pouce. Maintenez-le en position
débloquée.
► Tout en maintenant le verrou de retenue, enfoncez la
gâchette (2) avec votre index.
L’outil de coupe se met en mouvement.
Le moteur ne s’allumera pas, sauf si le verrou de retenue est
poussé vers l'avant et la gâchette est enfoncée en même
temps. Vous pouvez relâcher le verrou de retenue une fois
que la gâchette est activée. En maintenant le levier Ergo (3)
enfoncé, la gâchette reste déverrouillée.
Si vous relâchez la gâchette et le levier Ergo, vous devez à
nouveau déverrouiller l'outil avec le verrou de retenue.
15.2 Mise à l’arrêt
AVERTISSEMENT
L’outil de coupe continuera de tourner pendant une courte
période après avoir relâché la gâchette. Pour éviter des
blessures graves ou mortelles, évitez tout contact avec les
outils de coupe en mouvement. Pour réduire tout risque de
blessure résultant d’une activation involontaire ou non

autorisée, coupez le moteur, assurez-vous que l’outil de
coupe est arrêté et retirez la batterie avant de transporter ou
poser le coupe-herbe.
Pour éteindre le coupe-herbe :
► Relâchez la gâchette et le levier Ergo pour que la gâchette
soit rappelée en position verrouillée. En position
verrouillée, l’activation de la gâchette est de nouveau
bloquée par le le verrou de retenue.
L’outil de coupe continuera de tourner pendant une courte
période après avoir relâché la gâchette. Veillez à éviter tout
contact après avoir relâché la gâchette et lors du réglage du
coupe-herbe.
16 Vérification du coupe-herbe
16.1 Vérification des commandes
Avant de commencer le travail, vérifiez que le verrou de
retenue (1), la gâchette (2) et le levier Ergo (3) ne sont pas
endommagés et fonctionnent correctement.

► Retirez la batterie.
► Essayez d’enfoncer la gâchette.
S'il est possible d'appuyer sur la gâchette sans
déverrouiller au préalable le verrou de retenue en le
poussant vers l'avant, apportez le coupe-herbe à un
distributeur agréé STIHL pour le faire réparer avant de
l'utiliser.
► Appuyez sur le levier Ergo. Assurez-vous qu'il bouge
librement et qu'il se remet en place lorsqu'il est relâché.
► Déverrouillez le verrou de retenue en le poussant vers
l'avant.
Lorsque vous relâchez le verrou de retenue, il doit revenir
à la position verrouillée.
► Déverrouillez le verrou de retenue et appuyez en même
temps sur le levier Erog pour maintenir le verrou de
retenue déverrouillé.
Lorsque vous relâchez le verrou de retenue, il doit rester
déverrouillé aussi longtemps que vous maintenez le levier
Ergo.
► Déverrouillez le verrou de retenue et le levier Ergo.
► Insérez la batterie.
► Tenez le coupe-herbe fermement d'une main sur la
poignée de commande et de l'autre main sur la poignée
avant ou la poignée tubulaire. Tout en poussant le verrou
de retenue vers l’avant, enfoncez la gâchette avec votre
index.
Le coupe-herbe devrait démarrer. Si ce n’est pas le cas,
apportez le coupe-herbe chez un distributeur agréé STIHL

pour le faire réparer avant de l’utiliser.
► Relâchez la gâchette.
Le coupe-herbe doit s'éteindre.
Si l’outil de coupe ne s’arrête pas après que vous ayez
relâché la gâchette, retirez la batterie et apportez le
coupe-herbe chez un distributeur agréé STIHL pour le
faire réparer avant de l’utiliser.

17.2 Réglage du fil de coupe en nylon
AVERTISSEMENT
Pour réduire tout risque de blessure résultant d’une
activation involontaire, vous devez toujours couper le
moteur et retirer la batterie avant d’ajouter ou d’ajuster
manuellement du fil nylon.
► Tout en appuyant sur la gâchette, tapotez avec la tête
faucheuse en rotation sur le sol.
A chaque tapotement, vous ferez avancer environ 1.2 in.
(30 mm) de fil de coupe neuf.
Le couteau rogneur dans le couteau rogneur coupe le fil de
coupe à la bonne longueur.
Le mécanisme d’avancement ne fera plus avancer du fil si la
longueur du fil de coupe est inférieure à 0.1 in. (25 mm).
Pour ajouter manuellement du fil :
► Arrêtez le coupe-herbe et retirez la batterie.
► Enfoncez et maintenez le bouton sur la tête faucheuse.
► Tirez du fil de coupe à la main.
► Si vous ne pouvez pas tirer la longueur souhaitée,
installez une nouvelle bobine de fil.
STIHL recommande de faire tremper le fil nylon ou les
couteaux en polymère dans l’eau pendant au moins 12 à 24
heures avant l’utilisation afin de prolonger leur durée de vie.
► Amenez avec prudence le coupe-herbe en avant et en
arrière en décrivant un arc parallèle.
► Progressez lentement en gardant constamment les deux
mains sur le coupe-herbe.
Lors de la coupe, une pièce d’écartement (1) limite l’étendue
de la zone de fauchage afin d’éviter d’endommager
involontairement la végétation dans certaines circonstances
(voir l’illustration). Retirez la batterie avant tout montage ou
réglage de la pièce d’écartement.

coupe en mouvement, @ 5.6.4. Assurez-vous que l’outil de
coupe s’est immobilisé avant de l’abaisser, @ 5.6.4.
Lorsque vous transportez le coupe-herbe :
► Lorsque vous transportez le coupe-herbe à la main, tenez
le tube d'entraînement de manière à équilibrer le coupe-
herbe horizontalement. Tenez l’outil de coupe pointant
vers l’arrière, dans le sens opposé de celui dans lequel
vous marchez.
► Si vous transportez le coupe-herbe dans un véhicule,
bloquez-le dans une position où il ne risque ni de se
retourner, ni de subir des chocs ou des dommages.
19.2 Batterie

entraîner une décharge électrique, un incendie et une
explosion, ne transportez jamais la batterie dans un
récipient en métal ou à proximité d’objets métalliques (par
exemple trombones, clous, pièces de monnaie, clés), @ 6.
Lors du transport de la batterie :
► Placez la batterie dans un récipient non-métallique ou une
boîte en carton et protégez-la contre les chocs ou les
dommages. Ne transportez jamais la batterie dans un
récipient métallique ou autre qui est conducteur
d’électricité, ni à proximité d’objets métalliques (par
exemple trombones, clous, pièces de monnaie, clés).
► Si vous transportez la batterie dans un véhicule, bloquez-
la ainsi que son récipient afin d’éviter qu’elle se renverse
et aussi pour prévenir les chocs et les dommages.
Les batteries STIHL répondent aux exigences énoncées
dans le Manuel ONU ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.5/Partie III,
paragraphe 38.3.
Le transport des piles et des batteries au lithium-ion par voie
aérienne commerciale, maritime et terrestre est réglementé.
La batterie est classifiée en tant que produit ONU 3480,
Classe 9, groupe d’emballage II. L’expédition, que ce soit
sous la forme d’un outil complet ou de la batterie seule,
exige la conformité avec tous les règlements d’expédition en
vigueur. Vérifiez avec la compagnie de transport terrestre,
maritime, de fret aérien ou de transport de passagers pour
déterminer si le transport est interdit ou soumis à des
restrictions ou des exemptions avant l’expédition ou le
voyage.

uniquement dans une plage de températures ambiantes de
14 °F à 122 °F (- 10 °C à 50 °C), @ 6. N’entreposez jamais
la batterie en plein soleil ou à l’intérieur d’un véhicule par
temps chaud, @ 6.

la batterie à une température ambiante comprise entre
50 °F et 68 °F (10 °C et 20 °C) avec une charge comprise
entre 40 % et 60 % (2 DEL vertes).
► Ne laissez pas les batteries de rechange inutilisées.
Utilisez-les en alternance.

avec un chiffon légèrement humidifié. N’utilisez pas de

► N'utilisez pas de nettoyeur à pression pour nettoyer le
coupe-herbe ou ne le vaporisez pas avec de l'eau ou
d'autres liquides.
► Gardez le boîtier et les guides de la batterie exempts de
corps étrangers et nettoyez si nécessaire avec un pinceau
doux ou un chiffon doux et sec.

27.2 Recyclage de la batterie
AVERTISSEMENT
Manipulez les batteries déchargées/épuisées avec
précaution. Même lorsqu’elles sont supposées déchargées,
les batteries au lithium-ion ne peuvent jamais se décharger
totalement et peuvent encore délivrer un courant de courtcircuit dangereux. Si elles sont endommagées ou exposées
à des températures extrêmes, elles peuvent fuir, génèrent
de la chaleur, s’enflammer ou exploser.
► Respectez toutes les réglementations fédérales,
nationales et locales en matière de mise au rebut.
