XL-B
Lithium Ion Battery Pack for
7-Series Recorder
Description
The rechargeable lithium ion XL-B2 is a replacement battery
pack for Sound Devices 7-Series Audio Recorders. The 7.2 V,
4500 mAh battery pack can be used as the primary power
source for the recorder or as an onboard backup supply. It is
charged by the recorder’s charging circuitry when external
DC is connected to the recorder.
The battery pack may or may not have charge upon receipt.
You must charge the battery pack fully before operation.
Charging and Operating Times
• Refer to your product instructions for information on charging and operating times.
• You will get longer runtime if you turn the product off when
it is not in operation.
• Charging and operating times will vary– it is good practice
to have two or three times as many battery packs as you
thing you will need.
• Operating time will be shorter low temperatures than at
room temperature. You can use the battery pack between
0° and 40° C (32° to 104° F), but it works best between
10° and 30° C (50° to 86° F).
• If the battery pack starts to provide less operating time than
usual (at normal temperatures) it has reached the end of its
life and should be replaced.
When to Recharge
You can recharge a lithium ion battery pack whenever it is
convenient. Unlike Ni-Cad and NiMh batteries, the XL-B2
does not have to be fully discharged before charging. However, as the battery pack will naturally discharge itself over
time, it is best to charge it the same day you plan to use it, or
the day before.
In addition, there is the possibility of damage to the battery
pack and reduced usage time if fully charged batteries are
stored for a period of months.
Care
• Do not allow metal objects to touch the terminals, as this
can cause a short circuit and damage the battery pack.
• Keep terminals clean.
• The battery pack, charger circuitry, or the product itself will
not work properly if the terminals are dirty. Check them
before use, and wipe them with a dry cloth or tissue, if
necessary.
• Disconnect the battery pack when not in use. When it is
turned off, the unit the battery pack is attached to will continue to slowly drain power from the battery pack.
• When you plan to store a battery pack aim to use its complete charge fi rst, before disconnecting it.
• Store the battery pack in an area which is free of moisture,
and where the temperature is no higher than 30° C (86° F).
