Getting started Update Service
Update Service
With the Update Service PC application you can update your phone over the Internet. You can update
whenever you want to, and always keep your phone software up to date. You will be guided smoothly
through the process. To start using Update Service, download and install it on your computer.
Quick start-up to easy handset updates
Follow these simple steps to get started:
1. Download and install Update Service from www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice on your PC.
2. Start the application by clicking the icon on your desktop.
3. Software application updates will be downloaded to your PC when you start the program.
4. Make sure the hardware accessories are properly connected.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Done!
Whenever you need to update phone software, simply click on the icon on your desktop and follow
the on-screen instructions.

Changes to phone content and software
Operator branded phones
When you connect an operator branded phone to Update Server, only the latest approved software
for that operator will be available.

Getting started Update Service
Personal content
In most cases the personal content in a phone, phone book, ring tones, images, music and so on, is
intact after an update. The exception to this are Sony Ericsson smartphones, for example P990 and M600.
When smartphones are updated the personal content will be deleted. You should always use the PC Suite
to create a backup of all the content of the phone before you update it.
Recommended System requirements
Operating system
Microsoft® Windows® 2000 (SP3 or higher) or Microsoft® Windows® XP (SP1 or higher).
Recommended system requirements
• Pentium 4, 2.0 GHz or higher.
• 2 GB free hard drive space.
• 512 MB RAM.
• 1 available USB 2.0 port
• Internet Explorer 4.0 Service pack 1, or later.
• Adobe™ Flash™ Player 8, or later.
The Adobe Flash Player must be installed using Internet Explorer. The application will not work
if you install Adobe Flash Player using another Internet browser.
Internet connection
• 0.5 Mbit/second minimum.
Firewall settings
Make sure that your firewall is correctly set and allows Update Service and ma3platform.exe to access
the Internet.
Proxy settings
If you use a proxy server, make sure that you have the correct settings, % 6 Proxy settings.
