Quick Start Guide Network Configuration Using a Router
The Quick Start Guide briefly explains the connections and settings of the camera for viewing the camera image via Internet when connecting to the network using a router. For the installation and operations of the camera, please refer to the Installation Manual and the User’s Guide in the supplied CD-ROM.

System Configuration

You can monitor the image of the camera via LAN and Internet.
For viewing the camera image via Internet, a global IP address
provided by ISP is required.
The SNC-M1/M1W/M3/M3W network cameras do not support
PPPoE. Use a router compliant with PPPoE if you use ISP with PPPoE connection.

The Network Camera system and related service is not a security service. It is provided only as a convenience to allow you to easily
access the images and audio picked up by your cameras via the Internet.
You should keep in mind that the images or audio you are monitoring may be protected by privacy and other legal rights, and the
responsibility for making sure you are complying with applicable laws is yours alone.
Access to the images and audio is protected only by a user name and the password you set up. No further authentication is provided
nor should you presume that any other protective filtering is done by the service. Since the service is Internet-based, there is a risk that the image or audio you are monitoring can be viewed or used by a third-party via the network.

4 Turn on the Power of the Camera

Insert the DC plug of the supplied AC power adaptor into the DC IN 5V jack on the camera.
To make the network setting on the camera, connect the camera to the router using a commercially available network cable. The setting of the camera should be performed using the computer connected to the router.
Notes
• Before setting, turn on the power of the router and computer and connect them to the Internet.
• Use a commercially available category 5, straight network cable.
• The illustrations used in this guide show the SNC-M1 network camera.

Remove the cap of the camera.

Connect the power cord to the AC power adaptor.

5 Install the IP Setup Program from
the CD-ROM
This section explains how to install the IP Setup Program from the CD-ROM supplied with the camera. The IP Setup Program is required for detecting the camera. The other supplied programs can be installed in the same procedures.

An easy-recording software program, “Network Camera Recorder,” is available for the SNC-M1/M1W/M3/M3W network cameras. “Network Camera Recorder” allows manual or scheduled recordings of camera images and the sound picked up by the microphone built in the camera. If you click “Save this program to disk,” you cannot install correctly. In this case, delete the downloaded file, and click the “IP Setup” icon again.

Select “Program” from the “Start” menu of Windows, then select “IP Setup Program.”
The IP Setup Program runs and displays all the cameras connected to the network in the camera list.

Click on the camera in which you want to assign an IP address.
When multiple cameras are connected to the same network, check the model name and serial number on the rear of the camera.
The program is installed. After the installation, “Setup Complete” dialog is displayed.

The IP Setup Program installation is completed.

6 Set up the Camera

To connect the camera to a network, you need to assign a new IP address to the camera. This section explains how to assign an IP address to the camera using the installed IP Setup Program and how to configure other network settings.
Notes
• For viewing the camera image via Internet, a global IP address provided by ISP is required.
• This section explains the usual settings using “Obtain an IP address automatically” or “Use the following IP address,” “Obtain DNS server address automatically” and “HTTP port No. 80.” If you need other settings, refer to the User’s Guide stored in the supplied CD-ROM.
Click on the camera to assign an IP address.
The network settings for the selected camera are displayed.

Click on “Obtain an IP address automatically.”
By selecting “Obtain an IP address automatically,” an IP address is automatically assigned by the DHCP server. The “Subnet mask” and “Default gateway” are also assigned.

To assign a static IP address
Click on “Use the following IP address” and enter the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway.

Click on “Obtain DNS server address automatically.”
By selecting “Obtain DNS server address automatically,” the DNS server addresses are automatically assigned.

7 Set Port Forwarding on the Router

To view the camera image via Internet, you need to set port forwarding on the router. Skip this step if you are not viewing the image via Internet.

Perform the port forwarding setting on the router.
For details, refer to the operation manual supplied with the router.

Type “admin” in both the “Administrator name” and “Administrator password” boxes.
The default settings of both items are “admin.” You can change the administrator name and password later using the “User setting” menu.

“Setting OK” is displayed. The network setting of the camera is completed.

8 Monitor the Image of the Camera

You can monitor the image of the camera using Internet Explorer as the Web browser.

Accessing from Internet Explorer

Type the IP address in the URL box of Internet Explorer.
To view the image via LAN:
Enter the IP address recorded in step 7 on page

To view the image via Internet:
Enter the global IP address of the router and the port number for the camera recorded in step 2 of “Set Port Forwarding on the Router” on page 6.

To use the camera in a wireless network via an access point, set as follows. Use the network cable for connection when you assign a new IP address to the SNC-M1W/M3W wireless network camera.

Setting for Dynamic DNS Service

Sony offers a free Dynamic DNS (Domain Name System) service to the customers who have purchased Sony Network Cameras. The Dynamic DNS service allows you an easy access to the camera via the Internet, without using a static IP address, and to specify your preferred name to the camera. For details of the service, access http://www.register-snccam.net.

Setting up the IP addresses of the Camera and the Router

Connect the camera to the router following the procedure of “Connect the Camera to the Router” on page 3.

From computer A, set the camera’s IP address to a fixed private IP address (for example, 192.168.1.110) to be used on the LAN, following the procedure of “Set up the Camera” on page 5.
Enter the subnet mask according to the router’s setup (for example, 255.255.255.0).
Enter the LAN side IP address of the router as the default gateway address (for example,
192.168.1.1).

Enter the IP addresses of the DNS servers that your ISP has specified as the Primary/Secondary DNS servers.

Notes
Refer to the User’s Guide provided with the router for
details of port forwarding setup. Port forwarding may not be supported on some routers, or may be called by a different name. If necessary, contact the router manufacturer for details.
If using a port other than 80, set the same por t number
(in the range 1024 to 65535) on the camera’s setting menu and for port forwarding on the router.

On the router’s setup menus, check the global IP address (for example, xyz.37.128.50 in the above diagram) on the WAN side currently assigned by your ISP.

Enter this global IP address in the browser on computer B to verify access to the camera.
Note
To specify a port number other than 80 for port forwarding, enter a colon (:) after the global IP address and before the port number (for example, xyz.37.128.50:1024).

After the above setup, the camera can be accessed from any computer connected to the Internet (that is, it is open to everyone on the Internet). If you want to restrict access to the camera, perform the user setting and security setting procedures on the camera setting menus.
Note
If you cannot access the camera after performing the above setup, consider the following possibilities.
• The IP address that your ISP assigns may not be a “global” IP address.

• The port number (for example, 80) set for port forwarding may be blocked by the ISP.
t Verify with the ISP.
• The port number set for port forwarding may be blocked by security software or a firewall installed on computer.
t Verify the settings of the security software or

After verifying access from the Internet, register the camera for the Dynamic DNS Service using the camera’s setting menu.

A message appears, advising that your registration request was accepted and that a confirmation e-mail has been sent.
The confirmation e-mail should soon arrive at the e-mail address you specified for your registration. Within one hour after clicking the “Request Registration” button, access the URL provided in the e-mail.
Registration is now complete.

After reading and agreeing to the Terms of Service, click “I agree.”

Modifying Registration or Unregistering

Access the camera from Internet Explorer and display the “DDNS Setting” menu following steps 1 to 4 of “Registering the Camera for the Dynamic DNS Service” on page 10.

Click “Modify/Unregister.”

After modifying the desired items, click “Next.”
To unregister from the DDNS, click “Unregister.”

Verify your changes to the registration information, and click “Modify.”
The “Modify/Unregister” page of the registration site will open automatically.

Enter the same DDNS ID and password as those set on the camera’s “DDNS Setting” menu, then click “Next.”
Note
If the registration site does not open automatically, go to the home page of the registration site and click the “Modify Registration/Unregister” button.
A message appears, advising that changes to your registration have been made and that a confirmation e-mail has been sent.
The confirmation e-mail should soon arrive at the registered e-mail address.
Modification is now complete.
