Setting Up the Remote Commander

Befote you can start using the Remote Commander, you must first set it up. This booklet describes everything you need to know to setup the Commander, induding:
■ Installing the batteries (instructions are on page 5)
■ Presetting die Commander wiúi the codes for your TV, VCR, and cable box (instructions begin on page 6)
About Prosotting the Commander
This Remote Commander is preset at die foctory to operate
Sony brand TVs (using code na 01) and Sony brand VHS
VCRs (using code na 01). If you're using diisCbnunander
with a Sony TV and a Sony VHS VCR, you won't need to
preset the Commander bd(»e you start using it To set up this Remote Commander to use with other (non­Sony) manufacturer's TVs, VCRs, and cable bwces, you'll need to follow the instructions in diis booklet to preset the Remote Commander with the correct code number for your TV, VCR.

Note
The Commander can be set tq> to operate only one component
ofeach category (TV, VCR, od>le box) at a time—unless their
code numbers tuqipen to be the same. For example, you cannot
set up the Commander to operate a Sony TV and a Panasonic TV at the same dme (because they use different code numbers).

Installing the Batteries
■ Slide open the battery craxipartment and insert two size AA batteries (not supplied).
Be sure to line up tfve and - on the batteries witf\ the ♦ and
- on the battery compartment
NotM on Batteries
■ Under nonnal conditions, batteries will last up to six months. If the Remote Commander does not operate properly, the batteries might be worn out. When replacing batteries, rq>lace bodtof dtem with new ones.
■ E>o not mix old batteries widi new ones or mix different types of batteries together.
■ Whenever you remove the batteries—to replace them, for
example—the code numbers you've set are automadadly erased and must be reset
■ If the electrtdyte inside the battery should leak, ttw
contaminated area of the battery compartment with a cloth and rqjlace the old batteries with new ones. To prevent the
electrotyte âx>m leakh^ lemove the batteries when fou plân to rtot use the Commander for a kng period of dme.

Setting the Code
Step 1: Entering th« Code Number
1 Power off component you want
to set up. Then set the slide switdi on the iwmote Commander to VCR (to set up a VCR), CABLE (to set up
a cable box), or TV (to set up a TV).
2 Turn to "Compment Code Numbers* on page 12, and find
the two-character code number for your component. If mc»re than one code number is listed, use the number
that's listed Rist to complete the steps dut follow.
For example, if you're setting up a №uip's VCR,
you wotud use code munberOS.
If yoiu- component is not listed, see "Seaidiing for the Correct Code* on page 8.

3 Press and release the S (SET) button.

4 Enter die cmnponent's code number.
FPr example, if you're entering the code for a flip's VCR, you would press and release 0, then press and releases.

2 When the component powers on,

If die Commander Doetn*t Seem to Be Working...
■ First, try repeating these setup procedures udng die other codes listed for your component (see page 12).
■ If—after trying all the codes listed for your component— you still cannot get the Commander to woric properly, try die search mediod described under "Searching for die Correct Code" on page 8. '
If tha Commandar Soam* to Ba Working Proparly...
■ You're finished setting up die Commander for diis component
■ If you're setting up more than <wie component (or a TV/VCR cmnbination), you'll need to cmnplete diese procedures for each comptaient you plan to use with die Commander.
■ Use die label (supplied) to write down die code numbers of your components. Then affix die label to the back of die Commander.

Searching for the Conrect Code
If you've tried all the code numbers listed for your component aiid you stQl cannot get №e Commander to work (or if your
componentisnot lisM in this manual), try these steps: 1 Power off the component you want cable
to set up. Then set the slide switch vcW'S^ir-TV on dte Remote Coaoiunander to VCR (to set up a VCR), CABLE (to set up
a cable pox), or TV (to set up a TV).

Using the Remote Commander

Turning On/Off a Component
1 Set the slide swifcdi on the Remote
Commander to VCR (to turn on/otf a VCR), CABLE (to turn on/off a cable box), or TV (to turn on/off on a TV).

» Some buttons on dve Commander work exclusively with
specific components. These buttons also function
independent of die position of die slide switch. For example,
you can use die tape transport buttons (rewind, play, fast-
forward, record, stop, and pause) to control the VCR even if
die switch is set to TV or CABLE. Fte a cootqilefe list of
the buttons that work independendy, see the Hghlighted buttons in die table on the following pages.

■ Using tills Ccnninander will not increase the functions of your TV, VCR, or cable box. The functions of the Commander are limited to tile functions of the TV, VCR, or cable bm itself. Fbr example, if your TV does not have a RECALL functkxi, tiie RECALL button on tills Commander will not function with your TV.
■ If your cable box can control vdume, be sure to set its volume switdi to a medium position. If the volume on the cable box is turned down completely, you will not be able to
adjust your TV's volume wiöi die Commander.
