Edits for Playlist titles

RWVR
For DVD-RWs (VR mode), you can edit a Playlist while retaining original titles (actual recordings on the disc). A Playlist is a group of Playlist titles created from the original title for editing purposes. When you create a Playlist, only the control information necessary for playback, such as the playback order, is stored on the disc. Since the original titles are left unaltered, Playlist titles can be re-edited.
Example: You have recorded the final few matches of a football tournament on a DVD-RW (VR mode). You want to create a digest with the goal scenes and other highlights, but you also want to keep the original recording.

DV Dubbing

Before DV Dubbing

This section explains dubbing with a digital video camera via the DV IN jack on the front panel. If you want to dub by way of the LINE IN jacks, see “Recording From a VCR or Similar Device” (page
41).
To record from the DV IN jack
The DV IN jack on this recorder conforms to the i.LINK standard. You can connect any other equipment that has an i.LINK (DV) jack, and record digital signals. Follow the instructions in “Connecting a Digital Video Camera to the DV IN Jack,” and then move on to the section on dubbing. For more information about i.LINK, see “About i.LINK” (page 81).
z Hint
If you plan to do additional editing on a disc after the initial dub, use the DV IN jack and record on a DVD-R W (VR mode).
b Notes
• The DV IN jack is for input only. It will not output signals.
• You cannot use the DV IN jack when: – your digital video camera does not work with this
recorder. Connect the camera to the LINE IN jack and follow the instructions of “Recording From a VCR or Similar Device” (page 41).
– the input signal is not in DVC-SD format. Do not

Notes About This Recorder

On operation
• If the recorder is brought directly from a cold to a warm location, or is placed in a very damp room, moisture may condense on the lenses inside the recorder. Should this occur, the recorder may not operate properly. In this case, if the recorder is on, leave it on (if it is off, leave it off) for about an hour until the moisture evaporates.
• When you move the recorder, take out any discs to avoid damaging the disc.
On adjusting volume
Do not turn up the volume while listening to a section with very low level inputs or no audio signals. If you do, the speakers may be damaged when a peak level section is played.
Notes about the discs
• To keep the disc clean, handle the disc by its edge. Do not touch the surface. Dust, fingerprints, or scratches on the disc may cause it to malfunction.
• Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight or heat sources such as hot air ducts, or leave it in a car parked in direct sunlight as the temperature may rise considerably inside the car.
• After playing, store the disc in its case.
• Clean the disc with a cleaning cloth. Wipe the disc from the centre out.
On cleaning
Clean the cabinet, panel, and controls with a soft cloth slightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do not use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent such as alcohol or benzine.
On cleaning discs, disc/lens cleaners
Do not use cleaning discs or disc/lens cleaners (including wet or spray types). These may cause the recorder to malfunction.
• Do not use solvents such as benzine, thinner, commercially available cleaners, or anti-static spray intended for vinyl LPs.
• Do not use the following discs. – A disc that has a non-standard shape (e.g.,
card, heart). – A disc with a label or sticker on it. – A disc that has cellophane tape or sticker
adhesive on it.
On replacement of parts
In the event that this unit is repaired, repaired parts may be collected for reuse or recycling purposes.

Notes on MP3 Audio Tracks, JPEG Image Files, and i.Link

About MP3 audio tracks and JPEG image files
MP3 is an audio compression technology that satisfies certain ISO/MPEG regulations. JPEG is an image compression technology. You can play MP3 (MPEG1 Audio Layer 3) format audio tracks on DATA CDs (CD-ROMs/ CD-Rs/CD-RWs) or DATA DVDs (DVD-ROMs/ DVD-RWs/DVD-Rs/DVD+RWs/DVD+Rs/ DVD-RAMs) or play JPEG image files on DATA CDs (CD-ROMs/CD-Rs/CD-RWs) or DATA DVDs (DVD-ROMs/DVD-RWs/DVD-Rs). DATA DVDs must be recorded according to ISO9660 Level 1 or Level 2 format for the recorder to recognise the MP3 tracks and JPEG image files. DATA CDs must be recorded according to ISO9660 Level 1, Level 2, or Joliet format for the recorder to recognise the MP3 tracks and JPEG image files. You can also play discs recorded in MultiSession/ Border. Refer to the instructions supplied with the disc drives and the recording software (not supplied) for details on the recording format.

b Notes
• The recorder will play any data with the extension “.mp3,” “.jpeg,” or “.jpg,” even if they are not in MP3 or JPEG. Playing these data may generate a loud noise which could damage your speaker system.
• Depending on the disc, normal playback may not be possible. For example, the picture may be unclear, playback may not appear smooth, the sound may skip, and so on.
• Depending on the disc, playback may take some time to start.
• Some files cannot be played.
• For MP3 audio tracks, the recorder can play up to a total number of 650 albums and files.
• For JPEG image files, the recorder can load up to a total number of 650 albums and files a DATA CD/DATA DVD or the connected USB device at a time. To view unloaded albums, reload them.
• Proc eeding to the next or another album may t ake some time.
• The image size that can be displayed is limited. The following image sizes can be displayed: width 6000 pixels by height 4499 pixels (less than 4 MB).
• This recorder supports MP3 audio tracks recorded with a sampling frequency of 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, and 48 kHz.
• No more than a 1 GB MP3 audio track can be played.
• The recorder does not conform to audio tracks in mp3PRO format.
