Warning on power connections

• Use the supplied power cord. If you use a different power cord,

be sure that it is compatible with your local power supply.

For the customers in the UK

If you use the monitor in t he UK, be sure to use the supplied UK power cable.

Use of the tilt-swivel

This monitor can be adjusted within the angles shown below. To find the center of the mon itor’s t urning ra dius, a lign the center o f the monitor’s screen with the centeri ng dot on the stand. Hold the monitor at the bott om with bo th ha nd s whe n yo u tu rn it horizontally or vertically. Be careful not to pinch your fingers a t the back of the monitor when you tilt the monitor up vertically.

• Before disconnecting the power cord, wait at least 30 se conds

after turning off the power to allow the static electric ity on the screen’s surface to discharge.

• After the power is turned on, the screen is demagnetized

(degaussed) for about a few seconds. This g enerates a strong magnetic field around the screen which may affect data stored on magnetic tapes and disks placed near the monitor. Be sure to keep magnetic recording equipment, tapes, and dis ks away from the monitor.

The equipment should be in stalled near an easily accessible outlet.

Installation

Do not install the monitor in the following places:

• on surfaces (rugs, blankets, etc.) or near materials (curtains,

draperies, etc.) that may block the ventilation holes

• near heat sources such as radiators or air ducts, or in a place

subject to direct sunlight

• in a place subject to severe temperature changes

• in a place subject to mechanical vibration or shock

• on an unstable surface

• near equipment which generates magnetism, such as a

transformer or high volta g e po w er lin es

• near or on an electrically charged metal surface

Maintenance

• Clean the screen with a soft cloth. If you use a glass cleaning

liquid, do not use any typ e of cleaner containing an anti-static solution or similar additive as this may scratch the screen’s coating.

• Do not rub, touch, or tap the surface of the screen with sharp or

abrasive items suc h as a ballpoint pen or screwdriver. This type of contact may resu lt in a scratched picture tube.

• Clean the cabin e t, pane l and co nt rols wi th a soft cloth ligh tly

moistened with a mild detergent soluti on . Do no t use any t ype of abrasive pa d, sc ouring powder or solv ent, s uch as a lcohol o r benzene.

Transportation

When you transport this monitor for repair or shipment, use the original carton and packing materials.

Step 1:Connect your monitor to

Turn off the monitor and computer before connecting.

Notes

• Do not touch the pins of the video signal cable connector as this might bend the pins.

• When connecti ng t he video signal cable, check the alignment of the HD15 connector. Do not force the connector in the wr ong w a y or the pins might bend.

Step 2:Connect the power cord

With the monitor and computer switched off, first connect the power cord to the monitor, then connect it to a power outlet.

Step 3:Turn on the monitor and

computer

First turn on the monitor, then turn on the computer.

The installation of your monitor is complete. If necessary, use the monitor’s controls to adjust the picture.

If no picture appears on your screen

• Check that the monitor is correctly connected to the computer.

• If NO SIGNAL appears on the screen, try changing the input signal (page 9), and confirm that your computer’s graphics board is completely seated in the correct bus slot.

• If you are replacing an old monitor with this model and OUT OF SCAN RANGE appears on the screen, reconnect the old monitor. Then adjust the computer’s graphics board so that the horizontal frequency is between 30 – 130 kHz and the vertical frequency is between 48 – 170 Hz.

Setup on various OS (Operating System)

This monitor complies with the “DDC” Plug & Play standard and automatically detect s a ll the monitor ’ s in formation. No specific dr iver needs to be installed to the computer. If you connect the monitor to your PC, and then boot your PC for the first time, the setup Wizard may be displayed on the screen. Click on “Next” several times according to the instructions from the Wizard until the Plug & Play Monitor is auto matic al ly se lect ed so th at y ou can use t his moni tor.

Connecting Universal Serial Bus (USB) compliant peripherals

Your monitor has one upstr eam and four downstream USB connectors . They provide a f as t and easy way to co nn e ct USB compliant peripher al devices (such as keyboards, mice, printers and scanners) to your computer using a sta ndardized USB cable. To use your mo nitor as a hub for your p eripher al devi ces, conn ect the USBs as illustrated below.

1 Turn on the monitor and computer. 2 Connect your computer to the square upstream

connector using the supplied USB cable.

For customers using Window s

If a message appears on your screen, follow the on-screen instructions and select Generic USB Hub as the default setting.

3 Connect your USB compliant peripheral devices to

the rectangular downstream USB connectors.

Notes

• Not all computers and/or oper ating systems support USB configurations. Check your computer’s instruction manual to see if you can connect US B devices.

• In most cases, USB driver so ft w are ne eds t o be installed on the host computer. Refer to the peripher al device’s instruction manual fo r further details.

• The monitor functions as a USB hub as long as the monitor is either “on” or in power saving mode.

• If you connect a keyboard or mouse to the USB conn ectors and then boot your computer for th e fi rst time, the peripheral devices m ay not function. First connect the keyboard a nd m ouse directly to the computer and set up the USB c omplian t device s. Then connect them to this monitor.

You can connect two computers to this monitor using the video input 1 (HD 15) and video input 2 (BNC) connectors. T o select one of the two computers, us e th e INPUT switch.

Move the INPUT switch.

The selected connector appears on the screen for 3 seconds.

1 Display the menu.

Press the MENU button to di splay the menu on the screen.

Each time you press the button, the three picture modes cyclically change as follows.

You cannot adjust the contrast (6) or brightness ( ) on this screen. If you want to adjust them, select a mode other than sRGB in the COLOR MODE ( ) of the OPTION ( ) menu.

You can easily adjust the picture to fill the screen by using the SIZE/CENTER menu.

1 Press the MENU button.

The menu appears on the screen.

2 Move the control button up or down to highlight

The SIZE/CENTER menu appears on the screen.

3 Move the control button up or down to select

(AUTO). Then press the control button.

The adjustment window ap pears on the screen.

4 Move the control button up or down to select OK.

Then press the control button.

The picture automatically fills the screen.

Notes

• If you do not want to use the AUTO function, select CANCEL in step 4.

• This function is intended for use with a computer running Windows or similar graphic user interface software that provides a full-screen picture. It may not work properly if the background color is dark or if the input picture does not fill the s creen to the edges (s uch as an MSDOS prompt).

• The displayed image moves for a few seconds while this function is performed. This is not a malf unction.

(GEOMETRY)

The GEOMETRY settings allow you to adjust the rotation and shape of the picture. The (rotation) setting is stored in memory for all in put signals. All other settings are stored in memory for the current input signal.

1 Press the MENU button.

The menu appears on the screen.

2 Move the control button up or down to highlight

GEOMETRY and press the control button.

The GEOMETRY menu appears on the screen.

3 Move the control button up or down to select the

desired adjustment item. Then press the control button.

The CONVERGENCE settings allow you to adjust the quality of the picture by controlling the convergence. The convergence refers to the alignment of the red, green, and blue color signals. If you see red or blue shadows around letters or line s, adjust the convergence. These settings are stored in memory for all input signals.

• If the color is not uniform or picture is fuzzy, degauss the monitor (DEGAUSS).

• If elliptical or wavy patterns appear on the screen, cancel the moire (CANCEL MOIRE).

• If the color is irregular at the co rners of the screen, adjust the landing (LANDING).

The monitor is automatically demagnetized (degaussed) when the power is turned on. The screen is degaussed for about 2 seconds. If a second degauss cycle is needed, allow a minimum interval of 20 minutes for the best result.

The CANCEL MOIRE setting is stored in memory for the current input signal. All other settings are stored in memory for all inpu t signals.

Adjusting the color of the picture (COLOR)

The COLOR settings allow you to adjust the picture’s color temperature by changing the color level of the white color field. Colors appear reddish if the temperature is low, and bluish if the temperature is high. This ad ju stment is useful for matching the monitor’s color to a printed picture’s colors. You can set the color temperature for each of the video input connectors.

x Select the COLOR mode

There are 4 types of adjustment modes, EASY, PRESET, EXPERT, and sRGB. The default setting is EASY which can be adjustable from 5000K to 11000K. If you want to set another mode (other than EASY), select the desired mode in the OPTION ( ) menu. Then adjust the

selected mode in each COLOR ( ) menu.

x sRGB mode

The sRGB color setting is an industry standard color space protocol designed to correla te the displa yed a nd pr inted c olors of sRGB compliant computer products. To adjust the colors to the sRGB profile, simply select the sRGB mode in the COLOR

MODE ( ) menu of the OPTION ( ) menu. However, in order to display the sRGB colors correctly (γ = 2.2, 6500K), you must set the PICTURE EFFECT mode to

PROFESSIONAL (page 11) and your computer to the sRGB profile. If you select this mode, you cannot operate the CONTRAST/BRIGHT menu adjustments.

The preset color temperatures are 5000K, 6500K, and 9300K. Since the default setting is 9300K, the whites will change from a bluish hue to a reddish hue as the temperature is lowered to 6500K and 5000K.

Restoring the color from the EASY, PRESET, or sRGB modes (IMAGE RESTORATION)

The colors of most display monitors tend to gradually change brilliance over several years of service. The IMAGE RESTORATION feature found in the EASY, PRESET, and sRGB menus allows you to restore the co lor to the ori ginal factory quality levels. The explanatio n b elow explain s how t o restore th e monitor’s color from the EASY mode for example.

First, select the EASY, PRESET , or sRGB mode in the OPTI ON menu (page 15).

Preset and user modes

When the monitor receives an input signal, it automatically matches the signal to one of the factory preset modes stored in the monitor’s memory to provide a high quality picture at the center of the screen. (See Appendix for a list of the factory preset modes.) For input signals that do not match one of the factory preset modes, the digital Multiscan technology of this monitor ensures that a clear picture appears on the screen for any timing in the monitor’s frequency range (horizontal: 30 – 130 kHz, vertical: 48 – 170 Hz). If the picture is adjusted, the adjustment data is stored as a user mode and auto mat ically recalled whenever the same input signal is received.

Note for Windows users

For Windows users, check your graphics board manu al or the utility program which comes with y our graph ics board and se lect the highest available refresh rate to maximize monitor performance.

Power saving function

This monitor meets the power-saving guidelines set by VESA,

ENERGY STAR, and NUTEK. If no signal is input to the

monitor from your computer, the monitor will automatically reduce power consumption as shown below.

If thin lines appear on your screen (damper wires)

The visible lines on your screen especially when the background screen color is light (usually white), are normal for the Trinitron monitor. This is not a malfunction. These are shadows from the damper wires used to stabilize the aperture grille. The aperture grille is the essential element that makes a Trinitron picture tube unique by allowing more light to reach the screen, resulting in a brighter, more detailed picture.

CHANGE SIGNAL TIMING appears on the screen. If you are replacing an old monitor with this monitor, reco nn ect the old monitor. Then adjust the co mputer’s graphics board so that the horizontal frequency is between 30 – 130 kHz and the vertical frequency is between 48 - 170 Hz.

Then reconnect th e k eyboard or mouse to t he m on ito r. If you connect a keyboard or mouse to the USB connectors and then boot your computer for the first time, the peripheral devices may not function.

A hum is heard right after the power is turned on

* If a seco nd degauss cycle is needed, allow a m in im um interval of 20 minutes for the best result. A humming noise may be hea rd, but this is not a

malfunction.

• This is the sound of the auto-degauss cycle. When the power is turned on, the monitor is automatically degaussed for a few seconds.

Self-diagnosis function

This monitor is equipped with a self-diagnosis func tion. If there is a problem with your monitor or computer(s), the screen will go blank and the ! (power) indicator will either light up green or flash orange. If the ! (power) indicator is lit in orange, the computer is in power saving mode. Try pressing any key on the keyboard or movi ng the mouse.

Avertissement relatif au raccordement secteur

• Utilisez le cordon d’alimentation fourni. Si vous utilisez un

cordon d’alimentation différent, assurez-vous que ce dernier est compatible avec votre réseau d’alimentation électrique.

Pour les utilisateurs au Royaume-Uni

Si vous utilisez le moniteur au Royaume-Uni, assurez-vous d’utiliser le cordon d’alimentation fourni.

Exemple de types de prises

Transport

Lorsque vous transportez ce moniteur pour l’expédier ou le fa ire réparer, utilisez le carton et les matériaux d’emballage d’origine.

Utilisation du pied pivotant

Ce moniteur peut être ajusté selon les angles illustrés ci-dessous. Pour trouver le centre du rayon d’ajustement du moniteur, alignez le centre de l’écran avec l e point de centrage situé sur le pied. Tenez avec vos deux mains le moni te ur par sa partie inférieure lorsque vous le faites pivo ter horizontalement ou verticalement. Veillez à ne pas vous coincer les doigts à l’arrière du moniteur lorsque vous le régl ez verticalement vers le haut.

• Avant de débrancher le cordon d’alimentation, attendez au

moins 30 secondes avant de couper l’alimentation afin de permettre le déchargement de l’électricité statique de la surface de l’écran.

• Après la mise sous tension, l’écran est démagnét isé pendant

quelques seco ndes. Ceci gén ère un champ mag nétique puis sant autour de l’écran, susceptible d’altérer les données stockées sur les cassettes ou disquettes placées à proximité du moniteur. Assurez-vous de ne pas placer d’équipement d’enregistrement magnétique, de cassettes ou de disqu e ttes à proximité du moniteur.

La prise électrique doit être installée à proximité de l’appareil et facile d’accès.

N’installez pas le moniteur dans les endroits suivants :

• sur des surfaces textiles (tapis, couvertures, etc.) ni à proximité

de tissus (rideaux, draperies, etc.) qui risquent d’obstruer les orifices de ventilation

• près de sources de chaleur telles que des radiateurs ou des

conduits d’air chaud ou à un emplacement exposé aux rayons directs du soleil

• dans un endroit sujet à de fortes variations de température

• dans un endroit sujet à des vibrations mécaniques ou à des

chocs

• sur une surface instable

• près d’un appareil générant un champ magnétique, te l qu’un

transformateur ou des lignes à haute tension

Entretien

• Nettoyez l’écran en utilisant un chiffon doux. Si vous utilisez

un nettoyant pour vitres, n’utilisez pas de produits contenant une solution antistatique ou une solution similaire qui risque d’abîmer le revêtement de l’écran.

• Ne frottez pas, ne tou chez pas et ne frappez pas la surface de

l’écran avec des objets pointus ou abrasifs, tels que la pointe d’un stylo ou un tournevis. Vous pourriez en effet rayer le tube de l’écran.

• Nettoyez le boîtier, l’écran et les commandes à l’aide d’un

chiffon doux légèrement imbibé d’une solution détergente non agressive. N’utilisez pas d’éponge abrasive, de poudre à récurer ou de solvant tel que de l’alcool ou de la benzine.

5 Commutateur et indicateur ! (alimentation)

Cette touche permet d’allumer et d’éteindre le moniteur. L’indicateur d’alimentation s’allume en vert lorsque le moniteur est sous tension et en orange lorsque le moniteur est en mode d’économie d’énergie.

Etape 1 : Raccordez votre moni teur

à votre ordinateur

Mettez le moniteur et l’or dina teur hors t ensio n avant d e pro céder au raccordement.

Remarques

• Ne touchez pas les broches du conne ct eur du câble de signal vidéo. Vous risquez en effet de les plier et de les rendre inutilisables.

• Lors du raccordement du câble de signal vidéo, vérifiez l’alignement du connecteur HD15. N’essayez pas d’insérer de force le connecteur dans le mauvais sens. Vous risquez en effet de pl ier le s broc he s et de les rendre inutilisables.

Si aucune image n’apparaît à l’écran

• Assurez-vous que le mon ite ur es t ra cc o r dé correctement à l’ordinateur.

• Si l’indication PAS DE VIDEO apparaît à l’écran, essayez de modifier le signal d’entrée (page 9), et assurez-vous que votre carte graphique est correctement et totalement insérée dans le connecteur de bus adéqua t.

• Si vous re mplacez un ancien moniteur par ce modèle et que l’indication HORS PLAGE DE BALAYAGE apparaît à l’écran, rebranchez l’ancien moniteur. Ajustez ensuite la carte graphique de l’ordinateur de sorte que la fréquence horizontale soit comprise entre 30 – 130 kHz et que la fréqu ence verticale soit comprise entre 48 – 170 Hz.

Configuration sous différents systèmes d’exploitation

Ce moniteur est confo rme à la norme Plug & Play “DCC” e t dé te cte automatiquement l’ensemble des informations relatives au moniteur. Il n’est pas nécessaire d’installer un pilote spécifique sur l’ordinateur. Si vous raccordez le moniteur à vot re PC et si vous démarrez votre PC pour la première fois, il se p eut que l’assis tant d’instal lation s’affi che à l’écran. Cliquez plusieurs fois de suite sur “Next” suivant les instructions de l’assistant jusqu’à ce que le moniteur Plug & Play soit automatiquement sélectionné de façon à ce que vous puissiez utiliser ce moniteur.

Raccordement de périphériques compatibles Bus Série Universel (USB)

Votre moniteur possède un connecteur d’envoi et quatre connecteurs de réception USB. Ces connecteurs offrent un moyen simple et rapide de raccorder des périphériques compatibles USB (tels que des claviers, des souris, des imprimantes et des scanners) à votre ordinateur, en utilisant un câble USB standard. Pour utiliser votre moniteur comme concentrateur (hub) de vos périphériques, raccordez les prises USB comme illustré cidessous.

3 Raccordez vos périphériques USB aux connecteurs

Remarques

• Tous les ordinateurs et/ou système s d’e xpl oi ta tion ne prennent pas en charge les configurati ons U S B. V ér ifi ez dans le mode d’emploi de votre ordinateur qu ’il vous e st possible de racc order des périphériques USB.

• Dans la plupart des cas, un pilo te USB doit être installé sur l’ ordinate ur hôte. Reportez-vous au mode d’emploi de votre périphérique pour obtenir plus d’ informations à ce sujet.

• Le moniteur fonctionne comme concentrateur USB tant qu’il est allumé ou en mode d’économie d’ énergie.

• Si vous raccordez un cl a vie r ou une souris aux connecteu rs US B pui s amorcez votre ordinateur pour la première fois, il est possible que les périphériques ne fonctionnent pas. Raccordez dans un premier temps le clavier et la souris directem ent à l’ordinateur puis configu rez les périphériques conformes USB. Raccordez-les ensuite au moniteur.

Pour raccorder deux ordinateurs à ce moniteur, utiliser les connecteurs d’entrée vidéo 1 (HD 15) et d’entrée vidéo 2 (BNC). Pour sélectionner l’un des deux ordinateurs, utilisez le commutateur INPUT.

Déplacez le commutateur INPUT.

L’indication du connect eur sélectionné apparaît sur l’écran du moniteur pendant 3 sec on des.

Remarque
