Checking Your Model Number

The inshruchons fn this manual are for three models listed below. Before you start reading and operating, check your model number by looking at the bottom of your camcorder. The CCD-FX230 is the model used for illustration purposes. Otherwise, the model name is indicated in the illustrations. Any differences in operation are clearly indicated in the text, for example, "CCD-FX330 only". As you read through this manual, buttons and settings on the camcorder are shown in capital letters, e.g. Turn the POWER switch to CAMERA.

Installing the Battery Pack

B Inserting a Cassette

Make sure that a power source such as battery pack is installed.

Open the cassette holder.

While pressing the small blue button on the EJECT knob, slide it in the direction of the arrow. The cassette holder automatically lifts up and opens.

2 Insert a cassette.

The window faces out.
3 close the cassette
holder.
Press the "PUSH" mark
on the cassette holder.
Caution
The cassette holder goes down automatically. Do not force It down by hand, as this may causes a malfunction.

Lens
Before you use the camcorder for the first time or after someone else has used it, focus the viewfinder lens. Make sure that the power source is attached to the camcorder.
1 While pressing the green
button on the POWER switch, turn it to CAMERA.

3 Turn the viewfinder lens adjustment ring/
lever so that the indicator in the viewfinder come into sharp focus.

To adjust the brightness
- For model with the color viewfinder (CCD-FX330
only)
Turn the screw on the
viewfinder slowly using a screwdriver (not supplied).

Camera Recording

Make sure that the power source is installed and a cassette is inserted. Before you record one-time events^ you may want to make a trial recording to make sure that the camcorder is working correctly.
Remove the lens cap^ and attach it to the grip strap.

2 Turn on the power.

Using the Zoom Feature
Press the power zoom button (irmly (or a high-speed zoom, or press it softly for a relatively slow zoom (Dual speed zooming) 'T" side: for telephoto (subject
appears closer)
"W" side: for wdde-angle
(subject appears farther away)
For more professional-looking recordings, use the zoom function sparingly

Note on the tape counter

The tape counter indicates the recording or playback time.
Use it as a guide. There will be a time lag of several seconds from the actual time. To set the counter to zero, press COU.VTER RESET

To conserve battery power

Turn STANDBY down while not recording
When you finish recordirtg
Eject tlie cassette, turn the POWER sw itch to OTF nnd romove the battery p.K'k.

After five minutes in standby mode

If you leave the camcorder with STANDBY rum up (Standby mode) for five minutes, the camairder goes off automatically. This prevents exhaustion of the battery and wear of the tape. To resume standby mode, slide STANDB\ down onco and slide it up again.

Useful Information on Recording

For Hand-held Shots

You can also rotoal in a low positioir to get an interesting recording angle. Lift the viewfinder up for recording from a low position. (You can turn it to ISO degrees.)
