3. Safety with Silk'n Jewel
With Silk'n Jewel safety comes first
Home Pulsed Light™ (HPL) technology in Silk'n Jewel provides superior safety with lower energy levels. HPL achieves long-term hair removal results at a fraction of the energy level used in other light-based hair removal equipment. The low energy reduces the risk of harm or complications, and contributes to your overall safety.

4. Get to know your Silk'n Jewel
Silk'n Jewel is a light-based device for permanent hair reduction designed for home use. It is a powerful electrical device and should be used with special attention to safety. Be sure to read all warnings, contraindications and safety precautions before use, and follow them strictly. We recommend you re-familiarize yourself with the instructions before each treatment.

4.3 Intended use
Silk'n Jewel is intended to remove unwanted hair and effect longterm, or permanent hair reduction. Permanent hair reduction is defined as a long-term stable reduction in the number of hairs re-growing after a treatment regime. You may use Silk'n Jewel to remove unwanted body hair. Ideal body areas include the underarms, bikini line, arms, legs, face, back, shoulders and chest.
Do not use for any purpose other than as described in this manual.
4.4 Reading & storing the user manual
This user manual is based on the standards and rules in force in the European Union. When abroad, you must also observe country-specific guidelines and laws.
Before first use, please read this user manual in full, and keep it for future use. We recommend you refamiliarise yourself with the instructions before each treatment.
5. Safety tips
This section has information to help you use your device safely.
5.1 Exposure to the sun
The lowest energy level (1) is designed for safe use even
U
after sun exposure. If you use energy levels 2-5, avoid further exposure to
U
the sun for 4 weeks before and 2 weeks after your treatment. This is because higher quantities of melanin expose the skin to greater risk when using any method of light-based hair removal. This applies to all skin types, even those that don't seem to tan quickly.
ENEN
11
We don't advise it, but if you have to go out in the sun after
U
a treatment, be sure to apply sunscreen SPF30 or higher to the treated area. Do this for 2 weeks after a treatment.
5.2 Exposure of pulse light to the eyes
Although you can use the device to treat facial hair, take
U
extra care to avoid contact with the eyes, and use only below the cheekbones.
The device will only emit repeated pulses when it is in firm
a
contact with your skin, and you keep moving it across your skin.
5.3 Wounds or infections
Wait for the affected area to heal before further use.
U
6. Possible side effects
If you follow the instructions fully and pay attention to all warnings and contraindications, complications and side effects are uncommon. However every cosmetic procedure, including those designed for home use, involves some degree of risk. Therefore, it is important that you understand and accept the risks and complications that may occur with pulsed light hair removal systems designed for home use.
Minor skin discomfort
Home pulsed light hair removal is generally well-tolerated. However, some users feel mild discomfort during use. This is best described as a mild stinging sensation on the treated skin areas. The stinging sensation may last during or after treatment.
This means that you should use Silk'n Jewel at a lower energy level, and if that doesn't help, you should stop using the device.
12
Skin redness
Your skin may become red immediately after using the device or within 24 hours. Redness generally clears up within 24 hours.
See your doctor if redness does not go away within 2 to 3 days.
Make sure you use the energy level that is comfortable for you and suitable for your skin colour.
Increased sensitivity of the skin
The skin of the treated area is more sensitive so you may encounter dryness or aking of the skin.
Pigment changes
Silk'n Jewel targets the hair shaft, in particular the pigmented
cells in the hair follicle and the hair follicle itself. Nevertheless there is a risk of temporary hyper-pigmentation (increased pigment or brown discolouration) or hypo-pigmentation (whitening) to the surrounding skin. Risk of changes in skin pigmentation is higher for people with darker skin tones or heavily tanned skin. Usually discolouration or changes to skin pigment are temporary, and permanent hyper-pigmentation or hypo-pigmentation are rare.
Excessive redness and swelling
In rare cases, treated skin may become very red and swollen. This is more common in sensitive areas of the body. The redness and swelling should subside within 2 to 7 days and should be treated with frequent applications of ice. Gentle cleansing is OK, but avoid exposure to the sun.
Blisters or burns
Cool the aected area and apply anti-burn cream. Wait until the area has healed completely before another treatment, and use a lower energy level. If the skin does not return to normal within 3 days, consult your physician.
ENEN
13
7. Long-term hair removal the Silk'n way
The efficiency of hair removal varies from person to person according to body area, hair colour, and how Silk'n Jewel is used. A typical full hair growth cycle may take 18-24 months. During this time, multiple treatment sessions are required to achieve permanent hair removal.
A typical Silk'n Jewel hair removal plan during a full hair growth cycle includes:
Treatments 1-4: Plan two weeks apart.
U
Treatments 5-7: Plan four weeks apart.
U
Treatments 8+: Treat as needed, until desired results are
U
achieved.
7.1 Expected treatment outcomes
Individual response depends on hair type as well as biological factors that may affect hair growth patterns. Some users may respond quicker or slower than the average number of treatments.

7. 2 Energy levels
The energy level determines the intensity of the light pulse delivered to your skin. As the energy level increases, so do hair removal results, as well as the risk of possible side effects and complications.
The device has 5 levels of energy from 1 (the lowest) to
U
5 (the highest), represented by 5 energy level indicator lights.
When the device is turned on, the energy level is set to
U
level 1 automatically. Only one energy level indicator light will be on.
To change the energy level, press the control button
U
repeatedly to increase the energy level from 1 to 5. Once at level 5, press the control button again to reduce the energy level from 5 back to 1.
ENEN
To determine the right energy level for your treatment area,
a
refer to section 8.1 Before your first treatment.
15
7. 3 Pulsing and gliding
Pulsing is the best technique for treating specific spots or
small areas.
Press the treatment surface against your skin. Work in
U
rows (either across or down as shown in the image). Start at one end of each row and progress to the other end.
The treatment surface creates temporary pressure marks
U
on the treated area so you can see areas you have treated. After each pulse, move the treatment surface to the next
U
spot. Keep doing this pulsing action for the area you are treating.
Avoid gaps or overlaps as you use the device.
U
Gliding is the best technique for treating larger parts of the body.
Press the treatment surface firmly against your skin and
U
slowly glide over your skin (either across or down as shown in the image). Make sure that the treatment surface is always touching your skin.
At lower energy levels, the device takes only 1-1.5 seconds
U
to recharge between pulses. This generates a nonstop sequence of flashes.
Glide at a speed so that you avoid gaps or overlaps.
U
Do not treat the same area of skin more than once per hair
C
removal session.
16
Stop use immediately if you have any discomfort.
C
7.4 The skin colour sensor
Light-based hair removal on darker skin tones may result in adverse effects such as burns, blisters, and skin colour changes (hyper- or hypo-pigmentation). Your Silk'n Jewel has a skin colour sensor that detects the colour of your skin automatically. The skin colour sensor checks your skin colour at the start of, and occasionally during, each treatment.
If your skin tone is too dark for safe use, the device will not
a
operate, and the skin colour sensor light will blink.
7. 5 What to expect when treating with Silk'n
For many people, using Silk'n Jewel may be their first experience with a light-based device. During a treatment session it is normal to experience or feel:
Noise: The cooling fan makes noise similar to a hair dryer.
U
This is normal. A popping sound: With each flash of HPL™ light.
U
A sensation of warmth and tingling: During each light
U
pulse. Some redness: It is not uncommon to see some very mild,
U
pink-like skin colouration during or just after a treatment. This is usually most noticeable around the hairs themselves.
Stop use immediately if you see your skin is very red.
C
ENEN
Contact your physician immediately, if you experience any
C
complication.
17
8. Get started
To use your Silk'n Jewel, follow these steps:
1. Remove the device and other components from box.
2. Plug the adapter plug into the device socket and plug the adapter into an electrical outlet. All energy level
indicator lights will turn on, and then go off.
8.1 Before your first treatment
Remove all jewellery before use.
C
You must decide which energy level is right for your skin, and the area you want to treat. The device has 5 levels of energy from 1 (the lowest) to 5 (the highest). For example, you might treat one area at energy level 1, and another at level 4. For information on energy levels, refer to section 7.2 En erg y levels.
To choose the right energy level, test each treatment area separately (refer to the skin colour chart at the front of this manual).
1. Press the control button to turn on the device. The level 1 energy level indicator light will go on.
2. Place the treatment surface on your skin to deliver one pulse. If you do not experience abnormal discomfort press the control button again. This will increase the energy level. Deliver one pulse on a different spot at energy level 2.
3. Continue testing at increased energy levels. Use the energy levels indicated on the skin colour chart. When you find the highest energy level that is comfortable for that treatment area, you can start your treatment.
Use a lower energy level if you experience any discomfort.
C
18
Repeat this test for each part of the body you wish to treat.
You are now ready to use your Silk'n Jewel.
Before treating an area, the skin should be shaved, clean, dry and free of any powders, antiperspirants or deodorants. Do not wax, pluck or tweeze the hair out.
1. Be sure to cover up moles, warts or other marks on the skin that should not be treated.
2. Press the control button. The device will turn on, the level 1 energy indicator light will be on, and a fan sound will start.
3. Approximately 1 second after pressing the control button, the ready light will turn on. The device is then ready to use at the lowest energy level.
4. Set the energy level. Press the control button repeatedly to increase the energy level until you have the level you want. The energy level indicator lights indicate the energy level setting (refer to section 7.2 Energy levels).
5. Decide if you wish to treat the area by Gliding or Pulsing (refer to section 7.3 Pulsing and gliding).
6. Apply the treatment surface to the skin. Make sure that the skin is spread evenly and smoothly. When the treatment surface is in full contact with the skin, the ready light will start blinking slowly.
7. The device will first determine the colour of your skin automatically and it will flash a pulse of light onto your skin. You will feel a mild sensation of warmth and tingling, and you may hear a popping sound.
ENEN
19
8. If you are pulsing, remove the device from your skin. The device will immediately recharge for the next pulse. After a few seconds (depending on the energy level) the ready light will turn on again, and start blinking slowly when pressed against the skin.
9. If you are pulsing, repeat the process. If you are gliding, simply continue. Continue to pulse or glide until you have treated the area fully.
Stop use immediately, if your skin blisters or burns.
C
9. After treatment
When you have finished your treatment session:
1. Turn the device off by giving the control button an extended press. Remember the last energy level setting you used, because it will not be restored when you turn the device on again.
2. Remove the adapter from the electrical outlet.
10. Maintenance
It is important to clean your Silk'n Jewel device after each treatment.
Unplug the device.
U
To clean the device including the treatment surface,
U
wipe with a clean, dry cloth. Never use acetone or other abrasive fluids, because they will damage your device.
After cleaning, we recommend you store the device in its
U
original box.
Never immerse your Silk'n Jewel or any of its parts in water.
C
20
