Information about the COM port
Information about the COM port
A COM port is a serial interface on the PC. It can be used to connect external devices
such as a mouse with the PC.
A PC has several COM ports:
u COM 1, COM 2: Hardware-side, sockets on the PC for connecting devices with a
serial connection
u COM 3 etc.: software side, virtual interfaces that can be assigned to devices with
USB connections
Your Gigaset USB Adapter uses one of the software-side interfaces, e.g. COM 3 or
COM 4.
Information about operating the adapter
If you use a Gigaset USB Adapter, you cannot use the channel bundling and fax functions
of your Gigaset base station. Two PCs (one wireless, the other via USB) can however surf
the Internet at the same time.

Checking the preconditions
In the event of problems, check the following first:
u All cables have been properly connected.
u Is the distance between the base station and the portable part too large? If this could
be the case, place the devices next to each other for testing. If the connection can
now be set up, gradually increase the distance and check the connection quality in
the Connection tab of the configuration program. You will find more information in
Chapter "Information about positioning the adapter" on page 4.
