Safety Instructions
During installation and operation of this measurement system in explosive environments adhere strictly to the operating instructions of the manufacturer, take into account all local applicable safety instructions, standards and technical recommendations. Take primary ignition prevention measures (e.g. sufficient air circulation, avoid electrostatic charging and discharging, …). Take into account the technical recommendations for connecting together intrinsically safe circuits as per EN 60079-14. SECU-BAR 125 shall be used for applications only described in this document. For improper use or applications it is not designated for and also for the resulting damages the manufacturer cannot overtake any responsibility. Modifications on the product, esp. modifications which might have an impact on the level of ignition prevention are prohibited. SECU-BAR 125 instruments shall be installed and operated by persons only who are authorised and trained by the plant operator/manager and if they have studied and understood these operating instructions. The operator of the plant is responsible for instructing the users.
Product description
Barriers limit the energy which is fed into intrinsically safe lines in a way that ignition of explosive gas mixtures are impossible. Neither sparks nor excessive surface temperatures can cause explosions. The barrier is installed outside the hazardous area. The output provides an intrinsically safe power line for electrical equipment in the Ex-zone. The maximum input voltage UM must not be exceeded to ensure the ignition prevention level. SECU-BAR 125 is an active barrier for supplying intrinsically safe appliances in Ex-zones, like SECU-DATA instruments. The unsafe DC-power supply in the range 18 … 36 V is connected to the input IN of the SECU-BAR
125. The output current is electronically limited to max. 130 mA (rated value: 125 mA) and the output voltage is limited to max. 25.2 V to achieve the intrinsic safety as per EN 50020. SECU-BAR 125 is protected against reverse polarity and provides an output voltage with ignition prevention level “ia“ and an output current with ignition prevention level “ib. SECU-BAR 125 provides extra high current output current and stable output voltage independent from the load current in comparison to classic, passive diode barriers which opens universal fields of applications.

Features
ATEX certified
Rated output voltage: 24 V electronically stabilised/limited
Rated output current In = 125 mA, electronically limited
Wide input voltage range: 18 – 36 V
Easy installation in distribution board on DIN-rails
Applications
SECU-BAR 125 is installed outside of the Ex-zone and provides an intrinsi-
cally safe output voltage with ignition prevention level “ia” and an output current with ignition prevention level “ib” for electrical equipment installed in hazardous, flammable environments like
Industrial sensors for:
Pressure, temperature, humidity, proximity, length, weight
Limit switch position, transducers for non-electrical parameters ...
Electrical equipment in the chemical, petro-chemical industry, tank
:
farms
Level indication, overfill prevention, pressure, temperature
Fuelling stations:
Level control systems, overfill prevention systems
Principle of operation
The input voltage is passed via a fuse to a DC-DC-voltage converter which stabilises the output voltage. Via two electronic current limiting devices in series the voltage is fed to the output of the barrier. Additional protective devices provide a power supply for probes in Ex-zone 0. The output voltage is limited under all circumstances to maximal 25.2 V and the output current to 131 mA max.
Checking the contents of delivery
Please, check the contents of delivery immediately after receipt and unpacking. In case of missing components or transport damages contact your local dealer or a SECU-TECH representative. Please keep the original packing material if you have to send the instrument to a service facility. For damages resulting from improper packing the manufacturer cannot overtake any liability. Keep these operating instructions in case you hand over the instruments to other persons or if operating personnel has to be trained.

Setup
Important: Only qualified personnel with appropriate training and authorisation by the installation manager is entitled to connect SECU-BAR 125 to an existing installation. Adhere to all applicable, local safety regulations.
Connection terminals of SECU-BAR 125
Hints:
SECU-BAR 125 features an isolating housing suitable for DIN-rail mounting. This isolation ensures highest protection level: short circuits via the housing, indirect touching of live conductors is impossible. Adhere to local regulations re electrical installation like (DIN VDE 0100, VBG4, etc.) and instructions of the manufacturer and plant operators. The wiring is done with terminals with plus-minus screws. First of all connect the electrical equipment in the Ex-zone to the SECUBAR 125 and afterwards the power supply. Snap the SECU-BAR 125 to the DIN-rail and power on the system. The green LED on the SECU-BAR 125 indicates the operation of the power supply. Verify the whole system for plausibility.

SECU-BAR 125 must not be disposed of via the municipal waste system. The manufacturer takes back worn out units for a small fee and will dispose the instruments via the legal waste collection system. The appropriate symbol is attached visibly and permanently on the instrument.
Training
A training as per EU-directive 94/9/EC is not required.
Maintenance
SECU-BAR 125 is maintenance-free, no user serviceable components are within the housing.
Warranty
For the actual services and conditions see www.secu-tech.at, see the GTCS – General Terms and Conditions of Sale.

Troubleshooting
Problem: No power supply of the attached equipment. Solution:
Check the wiring and the input voltage of SECU-BAR 125. If the green LED is still not lit, the internal fuse could be blown. SECU-BAR 125 is mouldered internally and therefore cannot be repaired.
