Scrapbook
Use this application to create your own digital scrapbook
with content from webpages, videos and more.

Creating Categories
Touc h
Create category, select a
layout from the list, enter a name, and then touch OK.
Collecting Items
While viewing webpages, or videos, with the S Pen
button pressed, draw a line around an area to select it.
Touch Scrapbook from the list of applications that
appears at the bottom of the screen, and then select a
category to add the selected area.
Alternatively, press the S Pen button while hovering
over the screen, touch Scrap booker on the general air
commands, draw a line around an area, and then
touch .
Viewing Items
Select a category, and then select an item. While
viewing an item, touch Link to go to the source it was
collected from.
Screen Saver
When your tablet screen automatically times out, instead of a
blank screen, enable the Galaxy Note Screen Saver, which is
actually an action-packed video tour of all the fantastic
features that you will find on your Galaxy Tab.

About Settings
Use this application to configure the device, set application
options, and add accounts.

Settings Tabs
The Settings are divided into four main groups. When the
Settings screen displays, the tabs are located at the top of
the screen.
Connections
Control your device’s wireless connections.
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that provides
access to local area networks. Your device supports Wi-Fi
802.11 a/b/g/n/ac.
For more information about using your device’s Wi-Fi
features, see “Wi-Fi” on page 83.
Wi-Fi Direct Settings
Wi-Fi Direct allows device-to-device connections so you
can transfer large amounts of data over a Wi-Fi connection.

Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications
technology for exchanging information over a distance of
about 30 feet. You do not need to line up the devices to send
information with Bluetooth. If the devices are in range, you
can exchange information between themeven if they are
in different rooms.

on page 87.

Airplane Mode
Airplane mode allows you to use many of your tablet’s
features, such as Camera, Games, and more, when you are
in an airplane or in any other area where accessing data is
prohibited.
Important!
When your tablet is in Airplane Mode, it cannot
access online information or applications.

Location Services
You value your privacy. So, by default, your device only
acquires your location when you allow it. To use
Location-Based Services, you must first enable location
services on your device.
Before you use applications such as Google Maps and find
your location or search for places of interest, you must
enable the Use wireless networks option or enable the GPS
satellites.

Adding a VPN
Before you add a VPN you must determine which VPN
protocol to use: PPTP, L2TP/IPSec PSK, L2TP/IPSec RSA,
IPSec Xauth PSK, IPSec Xauth RSA, or IPSec Hybrid RSA.
Note:
You must also set a screen unlock PIN or password
before you can use credential storage. For more
information, refer to “Screen Security” on page 124.

Nearby Devices
This option allows you to share your media files with nearby
DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) enabled devices.
Warning!
If file sharing is enabled, other devices can access
your data. Use the Wi-Fi network and this option
with care.
To configure this option:

: Indicate the devices not accessible
to your device.

: Set whether to download data to Device or
SD card.
Upload from other devices
: If a nearby device attempts to
upload data, this setting indicates the response. Options are:
Always accept, Always ask, and Always reject.
Screen Mirroring
To share your device’s screen with another device, enable
Screen Mirroring.

Set the volume level for all types of sounds.

Use the Display settings to configure the way your device’s
screen operates.

Reading mode
: Use Reading mode to optimize the screen for
reading from selected applications. Touch the

: Set the device to launch a screensaver when your

Lock Screen
Screen Security
Choose settings for unlocking your screen. For more
information about using the lock and unlock features, see
“Securing Your Device” on page 14.

: No pattern, PIN, or password is required.

Swipe Options
The options available when Screen lock is set to Swipe are:
Multiple widgets
: Display multiple widgets on your lock screen.
Appears as an options after a lock mode is enabled.
Clock widget options
: Set the size of the Clock widget that is
displayed on your home screens, and whether to show the date.
Shortcuts
: Set shortcuts to appear at the bottom of the Lock
screen. Touch the

Personal message
: Edit the personal message and touch the

: Enable or disable whether to show owner

: Set the device to launch action

Show help information on the Lock screen.
Additional Pattern, PIN, and Password Options
These additional options are available when Screen lock is
set to Pattern, PIN, or Password:
Make pattern visible
: See the pattern as you draw it.
Lock automatically
: Set how quickly to lock the screen after the
screen automatically turns off.
Lock instantly with power key
: Use this option to enable the
lock screen when the power key is pressed. If this option is not
enabled, the screen dims or brightens when the power key is
pressed.
Wallpaper
You can choose a picture to display on the Home Screen,
Lock screen, or to both the Home and lock screens. Choose
from preloaded wallpaper images or select a photo you have
downloaded or taken with the Camera.

: When this option is checked, the screen

downward, to display the Quick Settings screen. Touch

Screen timeout
: Select the screen delay time the screen delays
shutting off after inactivity for the selected period of time.
Lock Automatically

This option only appears depending on
the Screen lock setting. For more information, refer to
“Screen Security”

Speak passwords
: Speaks passwords to enter them.
Easy touch mode
: Enable this option to stop or snooze alarms,
calendar events, and timer alerts, and to accept or reject
incoming calls.
•Show shortcut
: Set this option to display an Accessibility
shortcut on the Device options pop-up when you press and
hold the power key.
Manage accessibility
: Save and update your accessibility
settings or share them with another device. You can export your
settings, import a previously saved file, or share your file with
another device.
Services
TalkBack
: Activate the TalkBack feature.
Note:
TalkBack, when installed and enabled, speaks feedback
to help blind and low-vision users.
Important!
TalkBack can collect all of the text you enter,
except passwords, including personal data and
credit card numbers. It may also log your user
interface interactions with the device.
Vision
•Font size
: Set the font size.
Magnification gestures
: Use exaggerated gestures such as
triple-tapping, double pinching, and dragging two fingers
across the screen.
Negative colors
: Reverse the display of on-screen colors
from White text on a Black background to Black text on a White
background.

: Adjust the display colors, if you are color
blind and have difficulty reading the display because of the

To configure the Samsung keyboard:

Select input languages
: Used to set a default text entry
language. Touch this field, scroll through the options, and touch
the desired input language. When activated, a check appears
in the box.
•Predictive text
: Enable or disable XT9 predictive text. When
enabled the system suggests words matching your text entries,
and, optionally, completes common words automatically.
When XT9 is enabled, touch the
Predictive text

: Automatically update with popular new
words every day.
Personalized data
: Enter personalized data to improve
prediction results.

Clear remote data
: Delete your anonymous data stored on the

Auto replacement
: Complete or replace the word you are
typing with the most probable word when you touch the space
bar or a punctuation mark.
Auto capitalization
automatically capitalizes the first letter of
the first word in each sentence (standard English style).
Auto spacing:
automatically inserts spaces between words.
Auto punctuate
automatically inserts a full stop in a sentence
by touching the space bar twice when using the on-screen
QWERTY keyboard.

When enabled, you can enter text by sliding your finger across

navigation feature to move the cursor by scrolling the keyboard.
Key-tap feedback
: Select one or more of the following:

: Enable or disable auditory feedback when you touch an
on-screen key.

Character preview
: Provide an automatic preview of the
current character selection within the text string. This is helpful
when multiple characters are available within one key.

Motions
Activate the motion recognition feature and change the
settings that control motion recognition on your device.

General
This tab provides the ability to create and modify your
accounts. It also provides access to settings for Cloud
accounts, the backup and reset features, date and time,
Accessory, Application manager, Battery,
Power saving mode, Storage, Security, Developer options,
and About device.
Accounts
Set up and manage accounts, including your Google
accounts, Samsung accounts, and email accounts.
Your device provides the ability to synchronize information
from a variety of accounts, including Email, Facebook,
Google, and your Samsung account. Depending on the
account, you can choose to synchronize your calendar,
contacts, and other types of content.
With synchronization, you can ensure that the information on
your device is updated with any information that changes in
your accounts.
Managing Accounts
To view the accounts you have added:
1. From the
Settings
screen, touch
General
tab
(account).
The (account) is either Google, Samsung account, or
some other account you have added, such as Email.
Each of your accounts (Google, Samsung, and so on)
are listed under Accounts.
2. Tou ch
Sync all
to synchronize all accounts listed. Touch
Cancel sync
to stop the synchronization.
3. Touch an account to view the sync settings for that
account.
Touch
Sync now
to synchronize all data for the selected
account.

Cloud

as well as your music, photos, videos, and other files. If you
reset the tablet in this way, the next time you turn on your
tablet you are prompted to reenter the same kind of
information as when you first started Android.
