INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing the Samson S40 Powered Subwoofer.The S40 is a compact true high fidelity sound system.The S40 incorporates a highly advanced 50 watt power amplifier with a heavy duty 6.5
low frequency speaker housed in a specially designed ported tuned cabinet. It was developed specifi­cally for use with keyboard setups, project studios, and computer multimedia systems lacking low end.The S40 incorporates audio technology that improves and enhances the sound of your entire system.To get more details for setting up and operating the S40, please refer to this manual thoroughly.
In this manual, you’ll find a more detailed description of the features of your S40 Powered Subwoofer, as well as setting up and operating instructions and com­plete specifications.You’ll also find a warranty card enclosed—don’t forget to fill it out and mail it in! This will enable you to receive online technical support and will allow us to send you updated information about other Samson products in the future.
With proper care, your S40 will operate trouble free for many years.We recom­mend you record your serial number in the space provided on the following page for future reference.

Serial number: Date of purchase: Should your S40 ever require servicing, a Return Authorization number (RA)
must be obtained before shipping your unit to Samson.Without this number, the unit will not be accepted. Please call Samson at 1-800-3SAMSON (1-800-372-
6766) for a Return Authorization number prior to shipping your unit. Please retain the original packing material and, if possible, return the S40 in its original carton and packing materials.

OPERATING NOTES

Do not connect speakers and turn on power until you have read this manual
thoroughly.
Do not expose the S40 to dust or moisture and be sure to wipe it clean of
any dust regularly.
Do not connect an amplifier to the S40 subwoofer speaker or the warranty
will be void.

CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS

1. AC INLET
Connects to the supplied 3-pin IEC power cord.

Turns the S40 on or off.

3. SENSITIVITY
Controls the relative volume of the S40.
4. MONO INPUT
Accepts line level output specified for a powered subwoofer only. The SUB MONO OUT from th Samson DMS80 would connect to the MONO INPUT.
5. STEREO INPUT FILTER (LEFT)
Accepts line level out from the left channel of a stereo source.The built-in low pass filter cuts frequencies from 100 Hz up, therefore making it possible to use the S40 with any stereo line source.

STEREO INPUT FILTER (RIGHT) Accepts line level out from the right channel of a stereo source.The built-in low pass filter cuts frequencies from 100 Hz up, therefore making it possible to use the S40 with any stereo line source.

INSTALLATION

1. Unpack the S40. Inspect all items for quality of appearance and physical
damage. If shipping damage has occurred, immediately notify your dealer.
2. For best sub frequency response, place the S40 on the floor with the rear
(ported side) facing a corner or wall, or under a work station or desk.
3. Either connect a line level (non amplified) sub mono out to the MONO
INPUT of the S40, or connect line level left and right outputs to the left and right STEREO INPUT FILTERED respectfully.
4. Making sure the POWER SWITCH is in the off position and the SENSITIVI-
TY control is turned completely counter-clockwise, connect the IEC power cord to the AC INLET and a grounded AC outlet.
5. Power up your stereo source and the S40. Increase the SENSITIVITY con-
trol on the S40 until a good balance between your stereo speakers and the subwoofer is achieved.
