training through Rockford Technical Training Institute (RTTI). Please read your
warranty and retain your receipt and original carton for possible future use.

INTRODUCTION

This manual contains information on the construction, installation and
operation of the Full Range Speakers. We recommend you keep this
manual for future reference.

The Full Range Speakers are two-way speakers designed to improve the
performance of the factory installed car stereo system. Sized to fit most
automotive applications, the Full Range Speakers provide the first step in
an upgrade to the factory system.

TECHNICAL DESIGN FEATURES

◆ Polypropylene Cone

The polypropylene cones used in the Full Range Speakers are mica
filled for a high stiffness to mass ratio. This gives the cone strength
while allowing it to remain very light for minimal input power
required . The polypropylene cones are also resistive to the elements
which is beneficial for dash and rear deck installations.

THE RESULT: Strong and lightweight cones which resist the elements.

◆ Foam Surround

The Full Range speakers incorporate a precision rolled foam surround
for the front of the speaker's suspension. The foam surround controls
the linear excursion of the cone to minimize distortion for full range
applications.

THE RESULT: Controls excursion to minimize distortion.

◆ Polyetherimide (PEI) Tweeter

The Full Range Speakers use a polymer dome for controlled high
frequency reproduction. The PEI dome also exhibits a high stiffness­to-mass ratio which eliminates coloration of high frequencies.

THE RESULT: Controlled high frequency response.

◆ Magnetic Fluid Cooling

Magnetic fluid is a synthetic liquid consisting of microscopic mag­netic particles. The fluid has four times the thermal conductivity as air
which makes it an ideal cooling agent. Magnetic fluid is injected into
the voice coil gap which helps dissipate heat generated by the voice
coil.

THE RESULT: A thermal conductor which allows increased power
handling.

◆ Phase Plug

The tweeters (except RFP-1469) incorporate a phase plug mounted
just above the tweeter dome. The Phase Plug controls the tweeter's
dispersion pattern and increases off-axis response for better imaging.

THE RESULT: Controls dispersion for better imaging.

INSTALLATION

Since some of these Full Range Speakers are most often used as direct
replacements for stock speakers and are shipped without grilles,
some of the following instructions will not apply. For custom instal­lations see your Authorized Rockford Fosgate Dealer.

1. Determine where the speakers will be mounted. Ensure an area
large enough for the speaker to mount evenly. Be sure that the
mounting location is deep enough for the speaker to fit; if mounting
in a door, operate all functions (windows, locks, etc.) through their
entire operating range to ensure there is no obstruction.

2. Refer to the specification chart to determine the proper diameter
hole to cut for your speaker model.

3. Using the plastic mounting ring as a template, mark the locations

for the mounting screws. Drill the holes with a 1/8" bit.

4. Slip the screw clips over the holes that were just drilled with the flat

side on the outer face.

5. Feed the speaker wires through the cutout and the plastic mount-

ing ring (from the flat side) and connect to the speaker terminals.
Be sure to observe proper polarity when connecting the wires. The
speaker's positive terminal is indicated with a dot.

6. Fit the ring and speaker to the cutout. Mount them using the

enclosed screws. Fit the grille inside the ring and press gently, but
firmly, into place.
