Revox EIB Protocol
This Operating manual describes the layout and the setting options on
the M203 EIB-Bridge pages.
The description does not include the Revox EIB Protocol that the EIB
programmer must adhere to, so that the M203 EIB-Bridge can
recognise the incoming EIB Group addresses and convert them into
functions for the Revox Multiroom System.
Apart from the main Group address X, the EIB Group addresses for the
Revox Multiroom System are defined by Revox and cannot be modified.
For a fast and simple introduction, you should download the following
files from the Revox Homepage, www.revox.de/ Download/ Re:connect.
1. Revox EIB Protocol (pdf file)
2. EIB Configuration guide for Revox Multiroom System (Excel)
3. Sample programming (ETS file)

M203 EIB-Bridge
The M203 EIB-Bridge establishes
the bridge between on the one
side the Revox Multiroom System
and on the other side, the EIB
Domestic facility management
system.
The data exchange occurs
between the M203 EIB serial
interface and a serial EIB data
interface for bus couplers.
Installation
The M203 interface can be
installed easily and quickly.
There are two types of fixing
available.
Connection plan
The M203 EIB-Bridge is only
designed to handle communication with an EIB data interface
and cannot receive any other
protocols. The normal RS232
software (203-1) can be loaded
using the Revox programmer.
The EIB software is not copy
protected.
1) The four outside fixing holes
are used for a permanent
installation.
2) Revox recommends using
the two slots on the side for a
variable installation.

Connection:
M203 with M51
Socket: M51 LINK IN
The M203 interface is
connected to the M51 LINK IN
socket on the back of the M51
with the telephone cable
supplied.
If you want to use a different
cable for some reason, you
should use only a non-
crossed, 4-core telephone
cable with an RJ11 plug (6P4C
modular).
Cables up to 100 metres in
length can be used.
Connection
:
M203 with external interfaces
Socket: M51 LINK OUT
The M51 LINK OUT can be
used to connect additional
external interfaces to the M203
interface. These could, for
example, be the M201 IR
interface, a M200 Domotic
interface, a M202 Ethernet
interface or simply an additional
M203.
You should use only a non-
crossed, 4-core telephone
cable with an RJ11 plug (6P4C
modular) for this connection.

Connection:
M203 with serial interface
Socket: RS232
Using the RS232 serial interface, the M203 EIB-Bridge can
communicate with a serial data
interface from an EIB system.
Only Type FT 1.2 EIB data
interfaces may be used, which
originate from an authorised EIB
supplier. You will find a listing of
suitable products from GIRA and
Merten on page 12.
The graphic on page 7 shows
an example of a configuration
with an EIB domestic facility
management system and the
Revox Multiroom System.
The length of the serial cable –
null modem cable – must not
exceed 10 metres. The null
modem cable has a plug at
each end.

If the customer requires it, the
keypad units shown for
controlling the Revox Multiroom
System, are programmed
through an EIB tool, e.g. ETS3.
The basis for the programming is
the EIB protocol, which describes
the communication between EIB
bus connectors and the M203
EIB-Bridge.

Connection:
M203 with IR controller
Socket IR- LINK
Connect the small M204 IR
receiver, which is available in
four different models, to the IR
Link. Now you can locate the
M51 in a concealed location or
outside the normal range of
your remote control, without
having to forego any of the
convenience of using the
remote control.
The connection to an IR
receiver or a wall-mounted
remote control is done through
the 3-pin, screw-fixable Phoenix
plug connection.
Revox recommends the use of
a 2-core screened cable
(microphone cable), where the
screening is used as ground.
This cable may be a maximum
of 30 metres in length.
Please ensure that you use
the correct polarity when
setting up as otherwise you
might damage your
equipment.
Symbols:
+ Pos. voltage. 20V (DC)
IN IR Signal

The maximum number of IR
receivers that can be switched
in parallel per M203 is 3.

If you want to equip the
(additional) rooms with an IR
controller, you will need one
M204 IR receiver for each M219
Additional room amplifier. You
will find further information on
this topic on page 11.
An M218 wall-mounted remote
control, with integrated IR
receiver, can be connected
instead of the M204 IR receiver.

Connection example – Revox MR part
The EIB wall-mounted keypad units are installed in the required
(additional) rooms, which make up the Revox Multiroom System. Each
Additional room amplifier can be addressed over the M203 EIB-Bridge.
Additionally, the Additional room amplifier can be integrated into a
scene control.

Re:connect

Setup key
Using the Setup key, you can
call the M203 menu, which
appears in the M51 display.
Using the Softkeys
you can get to pages #1 and #2
Slot Selection
If a second M203 (M200) is
connected to the M51 Link
output, a different address must
be assigned through the slot
selection so that both M203s don’t
occupy the same slot address.
This would cause errors. In the
case of a double assignment,
neither of the two M203s would be
shown in the M51 Version list.
Slot addresse: #11 or #12
Important:
Only one M203 may be connected to the M51 Link for the
address selection. You should
separate the one M203 from the
M51 Link while assigning the
address to the other. If the
addresses are correctly set, both
M203s (M200) will appear in the
M51 version list.
You will find further information
on this topic in the M51 manual
in the Introduction chapter
under the Version function.

Re:connect

Setup #2 - EIB Adresse
The installer can assign different
main group addresses, in the
range from 0 to 15, when programming the EIB bus coupler
units (BCU) for the Revox
Multiroom controller keypads.
All keypads and/or their BCUs,
which are used for controlling the
Revox Multiroom System must
have the same main group
address (X). All other installation
areas, e.g. lighting or heating,
must be assigned a different
main group address than the
Revox EIB-Bridge. Otherwise,
wrong interpretations may result.
The main group address used (X)
is set on page #2. Setting is done
using the two softkeys – Address
+. You do not have to confirm the
address setting. Main address 5
was used in the above example.
In this case, all BCUs and/or their
keypad units, which are used to
control the Revox Multiroom
System must also have the main
group address 5 so that the
controls work correctly.
The definition of the middle (Y)
and lower (Z) group addresses is
handled by the Revox protocol.
An individual group address YZ
results from each combination of
(Multiroom) zone, room and
function.
The easiest way of calculating
the individual YZ group
addresses is to use the Excel
Configuration guide that can be
downloaded from the Revox
Homepage, ww.revox.de /
Download/ Re:connect.
You can see the room and zone
assignments of a maximum
configuration Revox Multiroom
System on page 13.
The address for rooms 1 – 8 in
the corresponding zones is set
through DIL switches on the
M219 Additional room amplifier.
You will find a description in the
M219 Additional room amplifier
Operating manual.
Another convenient way of
determining the room addresses
is the Revox Multiroom planner
PC software, which can be
downloaded free of charge from
the Revox homepage.

Important information
• Parallel operation
The Revox M217 Wallmounted display and/or the
M218 wall-mounted control
panel can be installed
parallel to an EIB Controller.
Both controllers have the
same priority. The M217
wall-mounted display
modifies the address within
a zone.
• Wall-mounted display
retrofit
Retrofitted M217 wallmounted displays modify the
addresses within a zone. In
this case, you should check
the addresses of the
Additional room amplifiers
and if necessary, adjust the
EIB addresses to the new
constellation.
• IR controller in the rooms
If you want to have
Multiroom control through a
Revox remote control as well
as through the EIB keypad
units, an “invisible” IR control
can be achieved using the
small M204 IR receiver.
The IR receiver is connected
directly to the M219 Additional
room amplifier and controls the
devices within the Revox
system.
The M204 is available in four
different models.
Setp #2 – EIB Debugger
There is an information window in
the middle of page #2, which
gives an overview of the activity
on the EIB data interface.
The following activities are
logged:
Resend
The number of repetitions when
the EIB data interface doesn’t
respond to a telegram the first
time.
Acknowledge
The number of confirmations sent
to the EIB data interface.
Init
The number of BCU initialisations. As a rule, only one
initialisation is carried out after
commissioning.
Receiver
The number of received EIB
protocols.
Transmit
The number of EIB protocols sent
to the EIB data interface.

The overview shows the maximum
number of (Additional) rooms in
a Revox Multiroom System, if
no M217 Wall-mounted display
is used and if the room control
is done through the EIB system.
One less room per zone is available for each M217 Wall-mounted
display which is connected to the
M219 Additional room amplifier.
On the other hand, installing
M218 Wall-mounted keypads or
M204 IR receivers in parallel to
the EIB System does not
reduce the number of rooms
with a zone.
The following Operating
manuals contain a detailed
description of the Revox
Multiroom System.
• Multiroom Module (MK 1 – 3)
• M219 Additional room amp.
