ROCK 5 ITX front USB connector
Installation and functional-test guide | board-specific, non-destructive checklist | 15 September 2026
Scope
This guide covers the ROCK 5 ITX motherboard's F_USB internal front-panel connector and a simple
post-assembly function check. It does not give a pinout, authorize hot-plugging the internal cable, or claim
compatibility with unrelated boards.
Board facts to confirm before assembly
•
On the ROCK 5 ITX interface map, F_USB is position 6; F_AUDIO and F_PANEL are separate connectors
at positions 7 and 8.
•
Radxa describes F_USB as supplying two USB 2.0 HOST ports with 1 A total output power across those
two ports.
•
The assembly guide directs the chassis F_USB cable to the connector labeled 6. Use the board
documentation and the physical connector markings to orient the plug; do not infer orientation from this
text-only checklist.
Power-off installation
•
Shut down the board, disconnect its 12 V DC or ATX supply, and wait until indicators are off before handling
an internal cable.
•
Locate position 6 / F_USB on the board. Distinguish it from the nearby F_AUDIO and F_PANEL connectors.
•
Inspect the chassis front-USB cable and header for damage or obstruction. Align by the actual keying and
markings; never force a misaligned plug.
•
Seat the cable fully without bending header pins. Route it so it cannot be trapped by the case or fan. Recheck
the connector identity before applying power.
Safety limit
The 1 A figure is a combined front-USB output limit, not 1 A per port. If a peripheral needs more power, use
an appropriate powered hub or another supported connection; do not assume the front header can supply it.

Functional test and record
ROCK 5 ITX F_USB | after the chassis is closed and power is restored
One-port-at-a-time test
•
Boot to an operating system and connect a known-working low-power USB keyboard or mouse to one
chassis front port. Verify the operating system recognizes it and input works.
•
Repeat with the other front port. If one port fails, power off before inspecting the internal F_USB cable and its
seating.
•
For storage, insert a known-working USB memory stick and confirm it appears in the file manager. Safely
eject it before removal. Do not use a high-current bus-powered drive as the first test.
If a test fails
•
Check whether the same peripheral works on a rear USB port; that isolates peripheral problems from a
front-header connection problem.
•
Power down and disconnect the supply before any internal inspection. Confirm the chassis cable is on F_USB
at position 6, not F_AUDIO or F_PANEL.
•
Check physical seating and cable integrity. Do not short pins, probe live header contacts, or force a plug to
troubleshoot.
