Preparations
Preparations
CAUTION: To set up this unit, you will need assistance. Do not attempt assembly by yourself.
Fill out and mail the warranty registration card. The registration card is found on page 58.
Required Tools
You must obtain these tools before assembling the unit:
⁹⁄₁₆-inch socket wrench or 14-mm socket wrench
¾-inch socket wrench
⁹⁄₁₆-inch box-end wrench or 14-mm box-end
wrench
¾-inch box-end wrench
³₈-inch open-end wrench
Standard set of metric hex keys
Adjustable pliers or adjustable wrench
Measuring tape
Wire cutter (to cut plastic tie wraps)
Step stool or ladder
Assembly Requirements
Follow these installation requirements when assembling the unit:
You must review and follow the instructions in this guide. If you do not assemble and use the S3.55 according to these guidelines, you could void the Precor Limited Warranty (page 59).
While you may be able to assemble the S3.55
using the illustrations only, important safety notes and other tips are included in the text.
• Read all the caution notes on each page before beginning that step.
Set up the S3.55 on a solid, flat surface. A smooth, flat surface under the unit helps to keep it level. A level unit has fewer malfunctions.
• CAUTION: It is highly recommended that the S3.55 be assembled and used on the ground floor. Make sure that the area where you plan to assemble and use the S3.55 has the structural integrity to support the 950-lb (428-kg) unit.
Provide ample space around the machine. Open space around the machine allows for easier access.
Determine the right and left side of the unit. Certain steps in the assembly instructions make reference to the left or right side of the unit. To remain consistent, place your back to the Main Frame and determine left and right from that orientation.
Check the end of a fastener before inserting it. The fasteners for each step are packaged in a plastic bag. The fasteners that are inserted into a threaded hole do not use locknuts. These bolts or screws are distinguished with a blue patch on the threaded end. Please note the callouts in the instructions and use the proper fasteners.
Insert all bolts in the same direction. The equipment will look better when you insert all the bolts in the same direction unless this guide specifies otherwise.
Leave room for adjustments. Tighten fasteners such as bolts, nuts, and screws so the unit is stable, but leave room for adjustments. Do not fully tighten fasteners until instructed in the assembly steps to do so.
A 6-inch scale is provided at the bottom of every assembly instruction page. Use this scale to identify the correct size for bolts and spacers. The head of a bolt is not used in measuring the length of a bolt.
To find out the length of a particular bolt, measure its shank (the long, narrow part beneath the head). Refer to the following diagram:
Bolt head
Bolt threads
Shank
To determine the length of a bolt, measure its shank.

Adjustments and Maintenance
Adjustments and Maintenance
This section provides information on how to tension the cables due to incorrect installation, misalignments, or cable stretching. Obvious signs that Cable problems exist include:
The Top Cap Weight does not rest squarely on the
top weight of Weight Stack.
A gap exists between the base of a double or single
pulley dock and the cross piece that it rests on.
The Cable rubs the inside edges of the pulleys.
Excess slack exists in the Cables.
Note: All cables stretch. If you use the equipment often and consistently select a higher weight resistance, the cables lengthen, which causes slack.
Important: To make cable adjustments, use a hex key to remove the eight bolts and washers that secure the Rear Shroud. Set the fasteners and shroud aside.

Step 2. Lat Pull and Seated Row Cable (46007-102) Adjustment
1. Lat Pull and Seated Row Cable (46007-102) Adjustment
A. When the S3.55 assembly is complete, check that
the Cam Washer rests against the welded triangle as shown. If slack exists in the cable, continue with step B.
B. To remove slack, use a ⁹⁄₁₆-inch wrench and loosen
the nut on the opposite side of the bolt and Cam Washer. With another ⁹⁄₁₆-inch wrench turn the Cam Washer either direction, so the bulk of the washer moves toward the welded triangle. When the Cable slack is removed, re-tighten the fasteners.
Important: Make sure the cable is not over tightened. If it is, a gap appears between the rubber bumper of the Double Pulley Block and the Crossbar.

2. Press Arm Cable (46008-101) Adjustment
A. To adjust the Press Arm Cable (46008-101),
remove the Weight Stack Pin from the Weight Stack.
B. Sit on the seat and grasp both Press Arms.
C. Depress the blue button on the end of the Press
Arm Handle and rotate the Press Arm Handle down. You’ll hear a click as the Selector Pin moves into its lowest position (position #1).
Note: The Selector Pin will not disengage if there is too much tension on the cable.
D. Verify that the Selector Pin is locked into position #1.
E. Adjust the Press Arm Cable using the threaded
cable end attached to the Single Pulley Blocks.
CAUTION: The rubber bumper at the base of the Single Pulley Block must be touching the Lower Crossbar. Do not allow any gap. If a gap exists, the selector pin may not disengage properly.

3. Press Arm Cable (46254-101) and Seat Carriage (46414-101) Adjustments
Cable adjustments to the Press Arm and Seat Carriage are required if you notice the following:
Press Arm does not drop into the stowed position
easily.
Press Arm does not stay in the stowed position.
Weights slip while performing a press exercise.
Note: To eliminate interference between the Pec Fly Arms and the orange handle of the Press Arm, the Press Arm must lock into the stowed position.
A. To adjust Cable 46254-101, remove the Weight
Stack Pin from the Weight Stack.
B. Press the orange handle and lower the Press Arm
into its stowed position.
C. Check that the Cable Eyelet moves freely back and
forth on the 2-inch bolt found on the Cable Bracket.
D. If it doesn’t, loosen the nuts using two open-end or
crescent wrenches and adjust the cable.
E. When the Cable Eyelet moves freely back and
forth, wrench tighten the opposing nuts to lock down the cable.
CAUTION: If the Cable Eyelet does not move freely back and forth on the 2-inch bolt, the lock mechanism cannot fully engage. During a workout, the weights can slip which abruptly reduces the resistance of the Press Arm. This sudden reduction may cause injury.

The orange handle on the Press Arm affects the seat movement. Cable 46414-101 releases the Seat Carriage and allows it to move back and forth so that the user can set the preferential position of the Seat and Press Arm in one fluid movement.
F. To adjust Cable 46414-101, check that the Cable
Eyelet is snug against the 2-inch bolt located on the Cable Bracket.
G. Sit on the Seat and depress the orange handle on
the Press Arm.
H. Move the Seat Carriage back and forth. If the cable
is properly adjusted, it should slide easily without any drag or clicking noises.
Note: If adjustments are needed, locate where Cable 46414-101 enters the Seat Carriage.
I. Loosen the jam nut and lengthen the Cable to
move the Seat without any drag.
J. Test the movement of the Seat Carriage and check
for slippage.
CAUTION: Do not lengthen Cable 46414-101 too much or the Seat will not fully engage in the Seat Carriage. If slippage occurs during a workout, it may cause injury.

4. Pec Fly Adjustments
The spring-loaded mechanism on the Pec Fly Drum reduces the need for Cable 46003-101 adjustments. However, you need to check the clearance between the threaded end of the cable and the overhang on the Main Frame.
Important: If clearance is not maintained, it affects the smooth rotation of the Pec Fly Drums.
A. To adjust Cable 46003-101, remove the Weight
Stack Pin from the Weight Stack
B. Rotate the Pec Fly Drum.
C. Check for a minimum of ¼-inch clearance between
the threaded end of Cable 46003-101 and the overhang on the Main Frame.
D. Make adjustments to the Cable, if necessary.
CAUTION: Permanent damage may occur to the Main Frame if clearance between the threaded end of Cable 46003-101 and the overhang on the Main Frame is not maintained.
