1. INTRODUCTION

In today’s histological study and research, various kind of specimens are
demanded to examine small region of soft tissues and hard materials. The Erma
Small Sledge Microtome was designed to meet the above request. This
microtome is also useful as a freezing microtome by attaching an Erma Electric
Freezer.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

This microtome is a precision instrument and must be handled with care. Even slight
damage to the slide-way will reduce the precision.

A) Unpack carefully and wipe off the anti-corrosive with gauze or a soft cloth and

benzene or a similar solvent. Do not use acetone or trichlorethylene.

MAKE SURE THAT SLIDING SURFACES ARE FREE OF DIRT AND
WELL LUBRICATED BEFORE MOVING FEEDING DEVICE AND
KNIFE BLOCK.

B) Put the microtome on the drip tray.

Put feeding device into the track. Position knife holder on the feeding device and
add the knife. For normal use, set at 12”. For harder objects, increase the angle
of tilt.
Position all at the left end of the sliding rails. See diagram.

C) Insert object block into object clamp and tighten with object clamping screw.

Check the sliding rails frequently and remove any embedded material.

MAINTENANCE

Always clean the slide-way when cutting is completed or at the end of the day. Wipe
with a soft cloth and oil all the mechanisms.

In the event that a microtome is to be returned for repair, please pack it carefully and
send it prepaid to:

WARRANTY

Physitemp Instruments Inc. warrants this instrument to be free from defects in material
and workmanship for 12 months from date of shipment. Repair or replacement will be
made at no charge at the discretion of Physitemp, if the defect is not the result of misuse
or abuse. Physitemp accepts no consequential liability for delay in delivery, alleged
faulty performance of the product, or any other cause.

For your protection, please pack the item carefully and insure against possible damage or
loss. Physitemp will not be responsible for damage resulting from careless packaging.
Please return freight prepaid.
