SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS - Read before operating equipment

This product was designed and manufactured to meet strict quality and safety standards. There are, however, some installation and operation precautions which you should be particularly aware of.

1. Read Instructions - All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the appliance is operated.

2. Retain Instructions - The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference.

3. Heed Warnings - All warnings on the appliance and in the operating instructions should be adhered to.

4. Follow Instructions - All operating and use instructions should be followed.

5. Water and Moisture - The appliance should not be used near water

- for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wet basement or near a swimming pool, etc.

6. Carts and Stands - The appliance should be used only with a cart or stand that is recommended by the manufacturer.

6A. An appliance and cart combination should be moved

with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the appliance and cart combination to overturn.

6B. Tilt/Stability - All televisions must comply with recommended

international global safety standards for tilt and stability properties of its cabinet design.

• Do not compromise these design standards by applying exces-

sive pull force to the front, or top, of the cabinet which could ultimately overturn the product.

• Also, do not endanger yourself, or children, by placing elec-

tronic equipment/toys on the top of the cabinet. Such items could unsuspectingly fall from the top of the set and cause product damage and/or personal injury.

7. Wall or Ceiling Mounting - The appliance should be mounted to a wall or ceiling only as recommended by the manufacturer.

8. Ventilation - The appliance should be situated so that its location or position does not interfere with its proper ventilation. For example, the appliance should not be situated on a bed, sofa, rug, or similar surface that may block the ventilation openings; or, placed in a built-in installation, such as a bookcase or cabinet that may impede the flow of air through the ventilation openings.

9. Heat - The appliance should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other appliances (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

10. Power Sources - The appliance should be connected to a power supply only of the type described in the operating instructions or as marked on the appliance.

11. Power-Cord Protection - Power supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords and plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the appliance.

12. Cleaning - The appliance should be cleaned only as recommended by the manufacturer.

13. Power Lines - An outdoor antenna should be located away from power lines.

14. Outdoor Antenna Grounding - If an outside antenna is connected to the receiver, be sure the antenna system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built up static charges.

Section 810 of the National Electric Code, ANSI/NFPA No. 70-1984, provides information with respect to proper grounding of the mats and supporting structure grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding connectors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes and requirements for the grounding electrode. See Fig. below.

15. Non-use Periods - The power cord of the appliance should be unplugged from the outlet when left unused for a long period of time.

16. Object and Liquid Entry - Care should be taken so that objects do not fall and liquids are not spilled into the enclosure through openings.

17. Damage Requiring Service - The appliance should be serviced by qualified service personnel when:

A. The power supply cord or the plug has been damaged; or B. Objects have fallen, or liquid has been spilled into the

appliance; or

C. The appliance has been exposed to rain; or D. The appliance does not appear to operate normally or exhibits

a marked change in performance; or

E. The appliance has been dropped, or the enclosure damaged.

18. Servicing - The user should not attempt to service the appliance

beyond that described in the operating instructions. All other servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel.

Note to the CATV system installer: This reminder is provided to call the CATV system installer's attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC that provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the building, as close to the point of cable entry as practical.

registration card. The serial number for the DPTV is on the back of the product.

Refer to the back of this manual for instructions on the cleaning and care of the DPTV.

ATSC Certified - for full compliance with analog NTSC and all 18 digital ATSC formats as specified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

High Definition Digital - with full 1920 x 1080 interlaced image resolution capability to achieve superior image performance.

64" Widescreen Display - with a super-large 64" Widescreen 16:9 display format which provides for a true home theater or cinematic experience. If a 4:3 aspect ratio picture is the primary source, it will be expanded to fill the screen.

120-Watt Amplifier - to provide up to 20 watts amplification for each of the Left/Right front, Center, Left/Right rear Surround, and Subwoofer channel speakers.

First Time Set Up - for both NTSC and ATSC channel programming to automatically preset the DPTV for available area stations.

Parental Control for “Censoring” - this feature can block out channels to keep children from watching undesirable programming. Parental Guideline and Movie Rating settings can also be used as part of the new Content Advisory Data system available with TV programming.

LCD Remote Control - universal, learn remote which controls virtually all IR devices, learns new commands as your system expands, and can be customized according to your personal preferences. Featuring a large LCD backlit touchscreen, the remote gives you easy access to all key DPTV features.

Dolby®Digital Sound - for multichannel sound reproduction at its best. Fully compatible DPTV audio system will replay a received Dolby Digital 5.1 sound source through internal system amplification, or function within a home theater sound system.

Audio/Video Connections - for external sources and home theater equipment to provide the ultimate in flexibility. In addition to separate NTSC/ATSC antenna inputs, connections include inputs formatted for SVideo; composite video; Left/Right audio; six-channel audio (directly to internal amplifiers); External Center Channel Audio Amplifier Inputs; VGA; and High Definition component (Y PB PR) video - such as used with DVD players.. Output possibilities include Left/Right audio; SPDIF; rear speaker connections; front speaker connections; variable and amplified subwoofer speaker connections.

VGA/SVGA - 15-pin D-sub female connection for impressive multimedia display of computer source material through the DPTV’s Monitor operation mode.

Product End-of-Use disposal

Your new digital projection television and its packaging contain materials that can be recycled and reused. Specialized companies can recycle your product to increase the amount of reusable materials and minimize the amounts which need to be properly disposed.

Note: The Smart Clock

option “SET TIME AUTOMATICALLY” sets the DPTV’s clock according to TV station Data Services Information (where available). With this mode the clock will automatically reset itself after power outages and update itself for Daylight Savings Time changes. The Smart Clock feature will also reset itself every time the TV is turned off. The “SET TIME MANUALLY” option allows you to only enter the current time of day and AM or PM settings.

Convergence (or lining

up of red and blue light paths on the TV screen) has been preset at the factory for your convenience and should not need any further adjustments. However, Convergence controls are provided (in both the First Time Setup and Picture Menu areas) in case the picture on your DPTV shows color fringing. Color fringing is when colors “bleed” or appear around the edges of on screen images and objects. If your DPTV should ever need to be adjusted for such a condition, please also refer to the DPTV’s Picture Menu Convergence control page section for further details.

NOTE: Adjustments for “Multi-Point” onscreen color fringing can also be made as part of the DPTV’s Convergence control system. Follow the on screen menu directions to select individual screen areas that can be readjusted and set for varying red/blue color fringing conditions. These multi-point settings can then be “Saved” to memory for the specific areas of the DPTV screen (or Factory Settings for convergence can be recalled and put back into place for use).

broadcast with Closed Caption (CC) information included. Neither are all Closed Caption modes (CAPTION 1-4; or TEXT 1-4) necessarily being used by a broadcast station during the transmission of a closed caption program. Usually "CAPTION 1" is the most used mode to view captioned material. Refer to your area's TV program listings for the stations and times of Closed Caption shows.

stations will often use spelling abbreviations, symbols, dropouts and other grammatical shortcuts in order to keep pace with the on-screen action. These type factors vary upon the source of the captioned text material and do not indicate a need for service on the part of the DPTV.

the lifelike, widescreen picture (or “home cinema” viewing experience) that is promised with High Definition TV programming. The Display Format control can be used to expand conventional 4:3 aspect ratio (width-to-height) broadcasts in order to fit your DPTV’s widescreen 16:9 format; or to reset the screen to best match the current programming.

Panoramic - Conventional picture is expanded to fill the full 16:9 aspect ratio screen area. Most of the non-linear picture expansion is performed toward the outer edges so that correct proportions are retained in the center of the screen.

4:3 (Standard) - Conventional TV picture format shows on the screen. Black bar areas show on the side margins of the screen.

16:9 (Expand) - Full widescreen mode with linear expansion to view HDTV program broadcasts. Used for material originally produced in 16:9 format.

Theater 1/2 - Expanded zoom modes with picture images increased in magnification. Designed for use with “letterbox” or cropped movie images such as found with Cinemascope or Cinerama type program material. Note: With the Theater modes there can be some loss of information at the edges as the picture expands to fill the screen.

Note: In the past the

relationship between a TV screen’s width to height, or aspect ratio, has historically been 33% wider than the picture screen height (or a 4:3 aspect ratio). The widescreen format of your DPTV screen is nearly 80% greater than its measure height (which accounts for a 16:9 aspect ratio). The reason for the 16:9 aspect ratio screen is that it allows for the dramatic and lifelike viewing of original version movies and cinemas (similar to the type found in your local theaters). And the 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen is also a good visual match for how our eyes work in a horizontally oriented field of view and action plane.

A Label is a four letter callout you can set to appear with the onscreen channel number. Example Label: WXYZ - for a TV station's call letters.

To create station labels using the Channel Labels Control:
